I am retro fitting 3 inch lights into 5 inch cans. This reducer plate from Elco lighting has a screw to screw distance for the inner plate (currently where you can see rivets in the second picture) that leaves me 1/16 inch short of the recommended 3/8 inch distance from the edge of the drywall. Given that the 5 inch can remains in its position close to the drywall edge and the nature of the application, am I OK going with 5/16 inch from the edge instead of 3/8 inch?
