First time doing drywall. After sanding and priming I did not notice these imperfections but after the first coat of paint it looks like that. What’s the best way to make the corner joint and but joint disappear? Just add more mud and then sand and re prime and paint? Thanks
More mud!
That’s what I’m thinking thanks!
You have to spread it out much wider.
You have to float it
Smoke um
I smoke my joints and in about 10 minutes they're gone.
Spray it sand it mud it paint it
What do you mean spray it. Like wall texture?
If it's a popcorn type application, spraying it with water will soften it and allow a drywall knife to slide under and remove it in giant sheets. (Put plastic down.)
No popcorn the wall is not textured
Then scrape it with a paint scraper to remove high spots, apply drywall mud, float it flat and paint it.
Ok thanks will do
Not too bad for a first time!!
You definitely need another coat and feathered out a good bit wider. Use the ready mix lightweight compound. You can add a little water and mix it nice and smooth.
Did you use a hot mix mud for this? Like the ezsand 20/45 minute stuff? It notoriously doesn’t sand out well for a finish coat. I see and fix these joints daily in new construction.
Chop off arm at shoulder
Hire a professional
Turn off the light it’ll look way better
Sure fire method for making the joints disappear.

Get a 14 inch taping knife. Apply mud with one end of the knife on top of the highest point, and the other end furthest away from any high points. Then wait until dries, put a light adjacent to the wall and shine towards the joint to check for noticeable unevenness which will be visible due to shadows. Sand the bumps.
Needs to be feathered out
There’s some great you tube videos on finishing drywall seams. You’ll need to float out the joints with a wider knife or trowel. Painting to early can be a pain because the texture of the newly added mud won’t match what’s already been painted… but luckily, the more coats of paint the more it blends. The corner should end up floating out 10-14 inches depending on the depth of the recess to fill from the corner bead. The bevel joint is about the same depending on how deep set the tape is in the joint. If it’s a horizontal butt joint, you will be 18-24” wide. This is because butt joints don’t have a recess like the bevels, and the tape sits higher on the drywall.
You’re quite close to making those joints disappear so definitely don’t give up yet. Make sure to blend the edges when sanding, this is really important, as the sharp line where mud transitions to wall board will be visible. Watch’s. you tube on that if you don’t know what I mean by feather… it helps to see that rather than just have it described.
Don’t over sand, or they will never disappear. You’re trying to fill in next to a mountain and make a plain, so you want the mud on the wall, not dust or drops on the floor.
Keep us updated on your fix buddy.
Feather. Feather. Feather. Get a 12-14inch knife minimum. Get a flashlight and put it parallel to the wall and touching the wall you can catch stuff like this.
That joint needs to be 12 inches wide and sanded better.
Its funny how mud works. When the sun goes down and the yawning faces turn off the lights to rest, the mud disappears. But come morning time... She's back.
Seriously though, its all about the lighting. You want a really bright bulb pointing directly at your eyes to blind you when looking at that spot.
Feather out like 18” or more… way more mud use a large 16-18” tool
More mud and float that joint out till it's about 2 feet wide. Gonna need at least a 10" or preferably a 12" knife to do it right. Cheers.
Im not a pro, but it seems all I ever do is drywall and spackle things. I use a mag light as a verification step. You can hit it at all angles and look for the shadows. Its saved me more than a few times.
Corner should be 2" then 3"
Bevel to bevel do a 10" then a 12" right down the middle.
Butts (factory/cut ends of sheets meeting) needs to be floated a bit more usually that is floated out roughly 2' depending on taper.
Prime the wall before you float any mud. The latex will bleed through and cause peeling .
It looks like you but joint was run with one 8”” should be split overlapping 12” to feather out the edges. The vertical needs the edge sanded. You should use a light and your hand to check the work before priming. This is not a big deal to fix.

Trowel flat over the joint, then the sides, gonna end up with a 3’ wide joint to make that disappear.
Change your lighting my friend.
Yeah when I use lamps and less overhead lighting it’s less viable but I can still see it so I want to fix it either way. Just turned on all the overhead lights to make it very clear
6-12” knife, at a 45* angle to the joint.
Multiple thin coats. Use EZ sand 30 or 45.
I used EZ sand 5 in small batches and work really fast.
Drywall taper here I’m willing to say that everything that was taped in that house looks the same. Get a nice bright light and hold it to the walls and ceilings. When you are done cursing and crying show us pictures. This can’t be the only bad area. I would like to see it ceilings

Eggshell paint helps.
Matte paint
it won’t hide the shadows
