I used to NEVER allow myself to just buy candy and eat a ton of it but now I will if I don’t drink and it helps. Usually it’s just when I’m in the early days.. must be something about the sugar in alcohol or dopamine from the reward
top them on some ice cream. anything goes really. especially early on but even into longer stretches. i went from a pint of ice cream a day whn i was quitting , to one pint a week, now im 7.4yrs in. and grateful. these treats to ourselves work, and they are sustainable. but no booze. not a drop. f..k booze. i hate it
Pro-tip (I can't take credit for it, someone taught it to me) -- citric acid is what makes those sour. You can buy some and sprinkle (lightly -- a little goes a LONG way) it on healthier sweet things like dried fruit. Of course, who am I to talk -- I've got a gigantic bag of sour chewy candies myself. Also, there are versions of these that have much less sugar and are still delicious. Joyride is my favorite brand for lower sugar ones.
Chewy sour/sweet things are apparently a very common go-to for people in early recovery. I think it's a combination of your body expecting to have all the sugar you were drinking plus, as you said, the sourness seems to give a dopamine hit
Alcoholic bodies need more carbs and supplements of b vitamins as well as thiamine. And possibly a good multivitamin, to catch up from all the nutrients and vitamins we leached from our bodies thru alcohol.
This is serious. Do ur own research. If you don't think u need it, u do

I probably ate my body weight in sour candy during my first six months of sobriety.
5 years later I'm down to like just a third of my body weight.
Of course! I'm an addict, but the sugar cravings came on strong and never really left after I stopped drinking.
The needs juicy gummy clusters… that’s what they’re called. You want the ones that say juicy.
I LOVE sour candy in my sobriety. If they made the nerds JUICY (specifically) gummy clusters I would die happy.
Have u tried skittle gummies? Droooool
They have made nerds juicy clusters. The texture is weird. I'd rather 50/50 nerds clusters and sour gushers.

I’m over a year sober and still eat a significant amount of sour gummy candy lol.
Yesss. Remember Shock Tarts?? I’d kill for those now
Hell yea
Oh my gosh because my first few months sober I ate so much sour patch kids, I thought I was the only one!
I am so grossed out by them now lol
Just replacing one addiction with another. Just cutting out the yeast.

My first 2 years were nothing but pizza and candy! I went from a sickly 170 to a more than healthy 270 lol
