I had been taking Ozempic for several months when I stopped tolerating it about a year ago and stopped taking It. At first we didn't add back metformin or anything but since then my A1C has been creeping up. So my doc prescribed Munjaro. I'm afraid it's just going to be the same deal and I cannot afford to be sick for 2/3 days after taking it. Has anyone had good luck in the same situation? (I also take insulin if that makes a difference)

  • Mounjaro is my godsend. Ozempic made me miserable and Ozempic actually takes away my cravings and helps me keep my blood sugar lower. As a Type 2 i’ve actually had lows on Mounjaro when I was first getting used to the effects of the drug and taking insulin at the same time. The only negative side effects I have are very slight nausea a day or two after the shot and I get very gassy if I eat foods that don’t fit in my low carb, low sugar diet. So if I eat pizza or something fatty, it makes me feel a little more uncomfortable. Other than that, I couldn’t speak more highly of it. I’ve also lost about 30 pounds, but this is just a plus on top of the blood sugar management. I really recommend it!

  • I totally get your fear. I was on Ozempic for a while too and eventually had to stop because the nausea just got unbearable. When my A1C started creeping up and my doctor suggested Mounjaro, I was honestly scared it would be the same nightmare.

What I’ve seen (and experienced) is that Mounjaro isn’t automatically the same. Some people who couldn’t tolerate Ozempic actually do much better on Mounjaro, especially if they start very low and go up slowly. Others do still get GI issues, but for many it’s milder or shorter-lived than Ozempic was.

I also use insulin, and that didn’t seem to make things worse — it just meant watching for lows more carefully once the Mounjaro started working.

One thing that helped me personally with the overall glucose swings and gut stress was adding 6GlukFine. It didn’t stop side effects completely, but it made my sugars feel less chaotic while my body adjusted, which helped a lot mentally.

Your concern is totally valid. If Ozempic made you sick for days, you’re not wrong to be cautious — but Mounjaro might still be tolerable for you. A lot of us have been surprised (in a good way).

  • I'm about to start after the new year. Happy to report back, if there is continued interest then.
