Not sure what's worse, them or the ones that either tell you nothing is wrong or what you are doing dealing with the situation day in and day out is completely wrong.
The odd thing is that the fair weather ones completely switch off. My Mum has 8 brothers and sisters and 30 odd nephews and necessarily to which I helped get xmas cards arranged to get to all of them from her. She got 2 cards back total from all of them, shouldn't annoy me but it actually does.
Considering cutting them off honestly
Realize that it's their emotional baggage that makes them that way. Not much else you can do.
Unfortunately I think that’s the norm not the exception. It was one of the hardest things for me to accept.
My family is like this. Cut them off.
