Hi everyone, my first time posting here so I hope this is a proper place! As the title says, edibles do nothing for me and never have and I'm trying to get to the root as to WHY exactly that is. I felt this would be the best place to ask. Now before any dummy says "oh you just haven't gotten the right stuff" or "you're just not getting a high enough dosage", trust me I've tried literally everything. I once had a personally made RSO edible that had my friend absolutely GONE off two bites. Meanwhile, I ate half of the (very large) rice Krispy treat and didn't feel a thing.
I've had stomach problems for a long time and I feel like I read somewhere at some point that some people lack a digestive enzyme that breaks down the delta 8 properly during the digestive process. Could this be my issue? Any input is highly appreciated. I've been smoking for years and I'm really wanting to make the switch to edibles as I worry for the health of my lungs. Thank u!
From what I've read, enzymes called CYP2C9, CYP3A, and CYP2C19 are responsible for breaking down weed into its active components in the digestive track and then further into inactive components. For a lot of people who don’t get any effect from edibles it’s not that you lack the enzymes to convert it but that the enzymes are too powerful or plentiful and break THC into its inactive component too quickly. Smoking usually still works because the active molecules go straight into your bloodstream from your lungs without getting processed by the enzymes.
I also had this issue and thought that I was completely immune to edibles, but it turned out that I just need a much higher dosage than others. I have to consume between 300-400 mg just to feel what a normal person would feel from 25-50. I make my own by blending D8 or HHC 1:1 with MCT oil and just add it to almost any food. You'll get people who don't understand and think it's a tollerance issue, but it's not. Just not enough active molecules getting through your digestive system so overloading it allows more to make it through.
I may have to hit up the guy that made me the RSO edible and see if he can custom make me something else that incorporates the other things people have suggested on another post I made in a different thread. People are suggesting to eat fatty foods when taking edibles and that's honestly something I never did with the RSO I took. Just need to experiment more I guess
I’m not a doctor or a scientist but I’ve heard before that some folks liver/kidneys/digestive systems don’t process edibles and thus the user feels no effects. I’ve always used edibles with a fatty food and for a similar reason it causes it to kick it into overdrive.
Thank you so much I will definitely try adding some sort of fatty food and see if it works then
yup! some people's system can't process it
Try eating some protein or saturated fat at the same time. I am like you too, but if I add peanut butter, it all works!
Will try this thank you!
I know that personally, no matter the dosage, gelatin-based products like gummies (which would include marshmallows) have never worked for me even when I was able to get them directly from a dispensary. I’ve had much better luck with good ol’ fashioned space brownies.
I'm gonna have to get both and test it out. It has been a while since I've even tried because I just gave up
Same for me. No amount does anything to me taken in edible form. I could eat a whole pack of gummies that say take half of one first. I’m talking like ten gummies so basically 20 times the amount supposedly needed and nada. Zip. Zilch. Just me being disappointed and my very expensive snack that honestly tasted like crap. I’ll stick to inhaling when I’m in that mood.
Yeah I'm afraid that I'm gonna go try the things people suggest and I'm gonna end up being out god knows how much money because I need a ridiculously high dose
Good luck on your journey!
Thank you! 😁
If edibles do not work for you, you should be able to still get the effects via tincture, beverage, smoking, lozenge, or suppository. Also look for edibles with nano D9, those do not rely on digestion, instead the molecule has been shrunk small enough to enter your bloodstream.
I haven't gotten tincture to work for me but I've yet to try beverages or nano D-9. I think I'll order some next Wednesday when I get paid
Same here. Only thing that affected me out of every single thing I've tried is home made firecrackers. AVB (already vaped bud) on a piece of bread w peanut butter and honey.
My dad had a liver transplant and then had to go through cancer treatments. We tried edibles and they did nothing for him. I was thinking it could have been his anti-rejection drugs that were blocking whatever it was that allows the THC to be metabolized
This is another thing I've thought about. I take an antidepressant, an SSRI, and am now taking an anti-psychotic (fun stuff I know). So I wonder if that affects it at all. But I'll be trying the things that everyone suggests here and will report back eventually once I get the time to get it done.
Finally, I’ve found my people! Same issue with me. Thank you for this answer!
Would nano based edibles work for someone who has an enzyme issue?
It should as the molecule is small enough to pass into to your bloodstream, like smoking.
