Hello good people here , i wanted to start degoogling my phone but i was thinking deleting chrome from my pc and phone would be all what about my mail account which by google ever since i was in school. Also big question do i need to delete something inside my chrome browser maybe certain cookies or some setting so it forgets literally everything. And nothing stays on chrome either locally or on server of Google's is it possible?

Thanks

  • It honestly depends on you as a person

Having a look though this sub you'll see lots of people going to the extremes to degoogle, but that may simply not be practical for you, you should try to degoogle as much as you can without making your life a living hell. If you require google for certain things, keep it.

That being said taking the small steps is always a good way to start:
    - Swapping from google to duckduckgo
    - Swapping from chrome to firefox (or brave)
    - Swapping from google authenticator to aegis

Once you're comfortable with that, you can take it a step further
    - Swapping from Gmail to Proton/Tuta/Others
    - Swapping from google pass to bitwarden
And potentially even further such as using custom ROMs.

If you have critical information on your Gmail then you can import that data to a new provider.
Provided you're in the EU/UK, there are several data protection laws which require google to give you your data (so you can import it to your new provider) and to request your data to be deleted on their end, which they legally must comply with. You can request this in your google account settings
