Is it because it is associated with Recession, which affected every family? If we take out this factor, a lot of good pop-cultures came from pretty bad economically times. Was it more about the quality of themes of these eras? I am aware, that EDM era was too minimalistic boring and paved the way to contemporary political problems, however what about ElectroPop? Do you consider it equal to McBling and Y2K era pop-culturally wise?
It's because to many people, the electropop era was when the seeds of 2010s culture was brewing including the bad stuff that the later 2010s is known for (such as how political polarization started during the aftermath of the 2008 recession or how flat design started with the Pepsi rebrand in 2008).
The recession may be part of it, but it's also probably simply because of the increasing rose-tinted nostalgia for the 2000s? I hated the popular music of that time so much I officially tuned it out starting around 2005, so I simply can't share that viewpoint, and I'm not a fan of 2010s electropop or whatever, but I'd take that over most anything popular in the 2000s. Hell, "minimalistic and boring" can even more easily apply to the godawful pervasive spectre of horror that was crunk music in the 2000s.
You couldn’t get away from the spate of really bad music no matter how hard you tried
I liked it a lot more than the Y2K era.
