I actually think 2010s popular music is better than 2020s popular music. Music was good in 2020 but that's it. There were some really good popular music from 2013 - 2017. Even some pop hits from 2018 like Happier by Marshmello. Even though 2018 music sucked it was full of trap. But then it got better in 2019 - 2020. But then bad again in 2023. It really never recovered since then.
Agreed. I'd say most of popular music post 2022-ish seems to have sadder themes and lyrics.
I miss when most songs were about partying, or dancing, or even just happy romance.

2008-2012 was just SO fun. I think 2025 the pendulum swung way too far in the other direction, like mid-90s level. I think we’re going to see the pendulum swing back now.
But then a year like 2024 comes along with Short N Sweet, Hit Me Hard And Soft, brat, etc and you remember there’s still hope!
But even then it doesnt feel super new. Brat sounds like a late 2000s club album. And short N sweet feels very Michael Jackson (like Human Nature and Bed chem).
I think this decade is missing something fresh and unique. Music and movies seem to be stuck in a “throwback” loop.
There is fresh music but you will find it in the underground
And then you realize it was only like one year before 2025 went back to square one
You have bad taste.
You gotta give us some explanation for your subjective opinion if we're gonna discuss this. I too prefer pop from the 2010s and am not the biggest fan of trap music. You don't really give us anything to discuss beyond that. Did you prefer the girl pop of that era ( Katy, Rihanna, Gaga), the tropical house era of later decade (Drake, Bieber, beach house). We also have a more fractured music culture to do everything having its own niche now.
How dare you ask someone on this sub to explain themselves!
I miss everything Recession Pop. Funny how I used to hate the others for being too girly but now I fondly miss it (I started missing the early 2010s scene and vibes since 2015).
This should be unanimous
in no way mid/late 2010's pop music is better than 2010-2015
You have to be specific what kind of pop as the 2010s have different kinds. The early 2010s was known for its upbeat party music to reflect the current recovery from the recession, so hence you get beats from Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, J-Lo, Nicki Minaj, Britney Spears, Chris Brown, Taio Cruz, Pitbull, Far East Movement, LMFAO, and Ne-Yo.
The mid-2010s was when alternate versions of pop rose like folk pop because the fatigue from non-stop party music was already there. This started as early as 2013 when Lorde released "Royals" which critiqued the recession pop of the early 2010s, but it would take until late-2014 to 2015 to finally shift the pop scene beyond the recession pop. Famous names that made hits in the mid-2010s include Ed Sheeran, Mag!c, Joji, the Weeknd, and Sam Smith. Justin Bieber also shifted his pop into tropical house.
The late 2010s was when tropical pop, Latin pop, mumble rap, and trap music started becoming the mainstream pop songs. This also saw the rise of new names of pop stars such as Dua Lipa, Camilla Cabello, and Sabrina Carpenter to name a few.
Yep. And popular music in the 2000s was better than popular music in the 2010s. And popular music in the 1990s was better than…
What types of pop are you referring to when you are talking about the 2000s?
Once u hit around 35 there are very few newer songs that u will like. Just happens and u yearn for the stuff of ur youth.
