I graduated before then but honestly nobody I knew at my highschool cared at all about the 2012 election. Now the school actually had both a Young Democrats and Republicans clubs so there definitely were some students who cared but I never met them. I don't think either club was that big either.
That said I'm sure that Trump actually caused high school students and probably even younger students to start caring about politics though. I mean Trump literally acts like a cartoon villain a lot of the time so I'd think kids would definitely be paying more attention now.
I'm still going with 2020 and 2021 over the lockdowns though.
honestly post covid everything's been equally hyperpolarized. pretty regularly people would argue with each other about political discussions, and fight because of it, which was not normal for 15 year olds to do before. i had friends who went to my high school before covid and pretty much confirmed it downgraded severely.
2020-2021
2020-2021, but I feel like nobody talks about the political shift of 2024-2025
2015-2016 due to the US elections for high schoolers at least.

2020-2021 SY tbh, but I also want to say 2002-2003 SY because of the Iraq war

Meanwhile I was in 12th grade during Covid. Absolutely miserable, I didn't learn a thing

2020-2021
2020-2021 with social distancing. However, I graduated in 2012 so I don't actually know what the experience was like.
