Hello r/decadeology users,

I have not gotten a chance to make updates to the automod since I did not have access to a computer for a week. However, there have been an increase of "What was the vibe of" threads that have been taking over the subreddit. These types of threads have quickly become repetitive. Therefore, they are now part of our "Weekend trivia" policy, effective as of today's date. If you want to read more about the weekend trivia policy, please read the subreddit rules.

  • They seem too specific to me for the most part. Vibes of June 2000? Why not vibes of summer 2000, etc.

Obviously there are month/year pairs that will stand out, like September 2001, just in general it seems too granular.

And yes I did make an oddly specific vibes troll post yesterday. Probably shouldn’t have done that.

  • If you were to ask me, I think these posts should be completely banned since they are the definition of “low effort”, but resorting them to just “Weekend Trivia” posts is pretty fair.

The main reason why I didn’t go for an outright ban is because these types of threads do technically fit under “decadeology”, so it’s not the topics themselves that are the issue. The problem is that they are constantly posted all the time, so I had to find a way to limit them.

I do want to mention that there will also be a body requirement for these types of threads so that they can at least promote discussion.

Fair enough. And they definitely get spammed way too much.

IDK they seem way more relevant than asking is a song more this or that. Or 95% of anything else posted no?

Asking what the vibe was of a certain point of time, wouldn't that almost seem to be the entire main point of the sub?

Discussing what the vibe and times were like in this or that decade or part of a decade. "r/decadeology is a subreddit that is dedicated to discussing cultural eras of various time periods. In this subreddit, we discuss past, present, and potential future trends, whether they are related to music, politics, fashion, technology, and more"

    No?

Dude, I posted this a year ago.

Well I was just adding commentary. And since it's still a policy.... would still seem relevant to offer commentary.

Anyway, it explains why I've been seeing way less post that would seem super relevant to the sub than expected. They all got banned to weekend specials and discouraged a long while back.

I get that but your commentary isn’t really needed since I made this comment a year ago and my stance has changed on this issue. I don’t really have a problem with those posts anymore, especially since a lot of other low-effort slop gets pushed on here as well that has less to do with the subreddit’s topic than what OP mentioned.

To answer your question, the reason why that was the case was because it used to get spammed a lot back then so it had to get restricted to weekend trivia.

  • A suggestion for mods.

I hope this picture I am posting will be a 'background picture' in the future. I like the one we have now (of the math problems and New York in the 1880's. But, I hope you guys/girls use this one in the future. The one right now should be left alone for the next seven years, at least.

The dates on this Decadeology picture/background is imperfect. But it's supposed to express how we each have differing opinions, and how humans are imperfect.
