  • If you have literally any knife, you have access to infinite food.

Use the knife to cut clothes into rags and make a rope.

Use the knife to dig up worms.

Use the knife to carve hooks.

Use the knife to cut down a long branch, attach the rope to make a fishing pole, attach the hook, attach the worm. Fish.

Use the knife to clean the fish, and make a fire.

Works until you run out of knives.

Ta-da. There's no reason to ever starve anymore.

    This is the way.

Even if you don't have a knife, you can use a hammer or tool to make small stones to make a knife.

Once you have any cutting tool, collared dresses become your best friend because they give you 6 rags. 2 dresses = rope.

ever since they nerfed fishing, I’ve had more success with this strategy -

mass murder zeds and loot houses like a mad man until I find a BK and a bullet, Hoover up all the food I find, hit a well, and then it’s off to kill a sheep/pig/goat/deer.

Along the way I look for a rope and/or cut clothing to get 2 stacks of rags in case I can’t find a gun and ammo. Only then will I resort to fishing in a spawn town.

By the time you do half of that, I'm fed, warm, and off the coast. And on busy servers, there's not food to "hoover up". You can search until you starve and maybe find a pear. There's nothing that's as good as "produce food for myself, on demand"

While you are frantically searching for another knife because your first one broke while getting a piece of bark before you can even cook your sad 25% freshie fish, Im already out of the town with a BK18 and a few rounds, heading towards an animal that ill have 20 pieces of meat from one cut of my blade

Ok man. Stone Knives literally just spawn on trails and railroad tracks. Enjoy your cold you caught, running around looking for a deer. I'm sorry that "having a knife" is too tough for you.

That sounds like a personal problem.

If you know the map or can use izurvive, it’s easy to find an animal spawn.

How many hits of a knife do you need to survive off of freshie fish?

The fish is so low on calories. you need like 6 whole fish to have enough to get you decently in land without having to stop for food again.

So that’s 6 worms, 2 wood hooks, 3 or 4 pieces of clothing, two pieces of bark, 2 or 3 long sticks cut into short sticks…

Bro you are burning through so much knife. If you can’t find them small stones or sharp objects, you are going to be on the coast for like 45 minutes.

Dude. Nobody Cares. This isn't a discussion about whether you prefer hunting to fishing. It's a discussion about how OP is starving.

If OP knew how to hunt, he'd be hunting, not asking how to not starve on reddit, and you need 5 separate things, and an hour of miraculously running for miles and not starving to do your plan. Mine needs a sharpened rock.

Seeing as how OP already thanked me for my post, you'd think that would be defininitive, but here you are, arguing because you love the sound of your own voice.

Bro what??? We are trying to help dude out.

Fishing with wood hooks and a simple fishing rod catches shitty fucking fish, and sometimes it’s actually not the quickest / easiest / best way.

Murdering 15 zombies for 2 brisket spreads and a zucchini while running house to house looking for a gun can be both quicker, and you can get a gun faster, and you can use it to defend yourself too!!

    No, I've helped OP.

You're just arguing for no reason.

I’m arguing because fishing with wood hooks is a waste of time and you are actually giving shitty information lol.

Just the other night me and a buddy fished up 4 whole 40-50% fish in a spawn town (cherno), split it between us, and got all the way to novy and then nwaf

After that you can easily drop the rod and hunt on the way

Not sure what you’re on about tbh, acting like there’s one correct way to play a sandbox game is fucking dumb

It’s important to say that wood hooks will catch very low quality fish.

Bone hooks are twice as good, try to find a body to cut up for the bones, or better yet a Chicken!

If no bones are around, there are always wood hooks, but that should be last resort.

Also the bones can make more knives so you don’t have to worry about running out of sharp objects while you dig worms, collect sticks/bark.

Wow, they have added alot since ive played lol did not know you could do all that😂

  • The regular mechanics still apply. Having said that, food is and always was easy to find, all you need to do is learn the mechanics around fishing and cooking.

  • I play on PC so I'm not sure about console exactly, but if you know where to look and how to use items you find, you'll never go hungry.

    • Early on I use dead survivors as fishing gear.
    • Hammers and wrenches can be used to make stones for knives.
    • Wire can be used to catch animals.
    • Nets and water bottles can be used to catch fish.
    • Fruit trees and hay bales will spawn fruit and mushrooms.

Canned food is one of the last things I look for when I'm looking for food.

Fishing is usually my main source of food early on.

  • I just kill zombies for food and chickens early game

  • I hunt, so I always have food. But foraging, fishing, you can get into a town and know what the fruit trees look like, run around the trees and wait like 10 mins... fruit will start to appear on the ground, it's not a lot, but it will keep you alive.

I’ll usally hang out in Prigo by the pump and fruit trees and get full food and water just hanging out for a bit . Then I beeline it for zeleno

    Good plan.

I usually zip straight inland. Theres a couple camps i hit to gear up, at least get warm clothes, some meds. But I usually luck out with a BK43, or something along those lines.

Yeah I’ll grab a r12 or a bk and usally can confidently loot after that . Never mess with mid tier guns

Bro, R12 is massively slept on. I'll snag one, and head up to a military zone if im just looking for gear. Otherwise, im heading to hunting cottages and shit. Minding my business.

  • no - i play 1pp official and only subsist on a vegetarian diet (fruit, red pine mushrooms) which spawn every 10m or so, assuming you know where to look

  • On the coast, sure. But you should be good just going to one place with tier 2 loot.

  • Fruit trees and hay bales spawn fruit, mushrooms respectively.

The time you spend roaming that town in search of food can sometimes be spent chilling in a shrub nearby fruit trees/haybales, conserving energy and spawning food simultaneously

  • Early game fishing is king. Once you have a gun though hunting is just as productive. Learn how to fish and hunt and food will no longer be an issue for you on official.

  • No its everywhere. I never find myself hungry.

Wow nice to know lol use to go 2 hours finding 1 can

I just keep cans as back up. Hunting and fishing gets you loads of food

  • I play on PC but I assume it similar. Food is fairly hard to find unless you know where to look or get lucky.

Always use to be impossible lol like 2 hours for 1 can

I would say it is if you just wander around but once you know what to look for it’s not as bad

  • Once you get going and covering ground animals will start popping up when they are needed. I havent had to resort to fishing much.

  • if you want food you dont get food🥲if you don’t need food u have food

  • You haven't played Intenz, have you?

  • It’s never been hard

  • I get most off my food off zombies.

  • Nah food is pretty easily accessible. I will constantly find pates, colas, and canned stuff early game looting the coastal spawn. That can keep you alive long enough to get inland without ever having to cook. If you need to cook, fishing is very easy you can just make a fishing rod with rope and a knife. Cooking is kind of tedious in my opinion so I only do it if I absolutely have to. Otherwise I'm just eating stuff I find that's safe along the journey.

  • Extremely. But go North immediately

  • Food isn't that hard to find. From hunting and scavenging, to fishing and foraging and even farming, there are a lot of ways to find enough food to thrive (or at least make it to the next town).

Clean water, however, is more difficult. Wells are common in Chernarus but can leave you in a vulnerable position to be attacked. Chlorine tablets are an uncommon find. Boiling water takes time and the smoke draws attention. Bottles of water that you find can make you sick, so you should dump them out. The problem is only worse on Sakhal, where everything is frozen, clean wells are uncommon, and heavy metal poisoning from snow can kill you.

  • Hunting is also a very good way to find food. If you shoot an animal (deer, pig) you almost everything get around 7-11 steaks that lasts very long.

  • I've used a fishing pole for role-playing/immersion, but I find the easiest way to get food is by silent-approaching infected with a knife or silenced pistol and looting the food on them. I swear like 1 in 3 infected have canned goods on them. I don't bother obtaining food by any other method these days.

  • Never been hard to find, so no

    Hmm ok thx lol

  • Fishing is one of the easiest things to do for food
