Haven't played this guy in almost 2 months in fear of losing him and all his gear šŸ˜‚ I've resorted to my secondary run in FPO. Anyone have any advice on how to get over the fear of losing all my stuff?

I had a geared player similair to this, got scared and didn't play for a while. Got on one day feeling ballsy and immediately died. Think that might have instilled an even deeper fear in me to not touch my geared characters because of how upset I was lol.

  • Gotchu with the ultimate complex to get rid of gear fear. Imagine it from the perspective of the person that kills you, imagine the loot they'd get and how happy they'd be, like how happy you've gotten killing geared players. It's better to recycle that experience into the community rather than getting super geared, and never logging back in before a wipe just to have all that gear wiped away. Try to wrap your mind around this and maybe the fear of dying won't be so strong. That it's not a bad thing to die, and when you kill other players you are very happy yourself and others must have their time in that feeling aswell.

That's a good perspective as well, give what is given. I like this a lot.

I’ve played wayyyy too many hours of extraction shooters, so I don’t really get gear fear per se. BUT, I do get bummed out after a bad death and lose interest. One thing that’s helped me is thinking of each character as their own game/storyline. How did they get started, what was going on in their lives before the infection, a bit of personality and I get behind my latest character allot more.

Bury a stash of all your best stuff then go collect more.

The ā€œenjoy your role as someone’s mealā€ advice šŸ˜†- I try to think this way sometimes- the satisfaction is just not there though… for me

Almost. The thing is more ā€œenjoy your role as someone’s (from the community) meal before your role as a meal for the Nether (wipe)ā€ you are a meal either way and regarding the former you at least have agency

Actually great advice I’ll adopt this mindset

But what if I really don't like the guy that killed me?

Problem with this is, that on my last 2 fully geared runs I got killed by a cheater, which makes the whole process of gearing up go in vain

Best way to look at it by far

also you never know, maybe someday they’ll still have your loot and you kill them and you have your stuff back

This is actually a goated mindset.

For me, this doesn't work, cause I don't kill people if I can help it. Granted, this has gotten me killed several times, but I'd rather lose just a but of gear that I could get back, then lose where I am on the map and all my cloths.

Well spoken Jedi. Never looked at it this way.

  • Take a breather and touch grass, then start a new run. After a half hour you’ll be in it again.

  • Im super bad with this and after taking a big break it only got worse, if anyone has any advice at all I’d be more than grateful for it

I’m constantly building up characters just to not touch them and letting wipe do it for me, I don’t really struggle to get loot when fresh either I’m just in some way attached to something that’s literally pixels šŸ˜‚ I got m4s vs-89s augs dmr’s literally everything but what’s it matter if I don’t use them

    Help please

Exactly. Like I know if I tried hard enough I could get to where I'm at again. I just like how having a geared character lets everything fall into place for you, and I'm scared of losing the luxury of not worrying about my surroundings or food to eat yet I don't take advantage of those luxuries by playing the character!! It's stupidity.

Yeah idk if it’s the time I’ve invested, the fit I’ve acquired or the story I’m trying to tell but something about having cool shit in Dayz makes you do way less cool shit lol

I go around haft hoping for a bullet just to free myself from the stress šŸ˜…

Don't be afraid. That's one of the best parts of the game. Start fresh and do better.

Have you thought about starting to bury (or place in bushes) storage?
You can then put ALL except for 1 of each thing into it, so you can go loot more if you like - and if you server hop, just make sure to get another character there too. If you die, go hit up your storage again

Remember it's the story of how you got them and which towns had this or that at the last minute that saved you early on and then you got gear boosted. It's the story. Not the pixels. Fight and win and when you lose, another story starts. DayZ is always about how sonething happens, and getting "DayZ'd" with an unexpected or unfair death is a cool story. Get back out there and you'll be OK. šŸ†—šŸ˜ŠšŸ‘Œ

Yeah you’re exactly right, I’ve decided to take my best gear and try make a stash for nbc gear on a busy server, if I don’t die this character has done all ā€œquestsā€ across all maps and if he does well that’s still a sick story

I’ll stash my loot and if someone finds it fair play, I found a stash the other week and it made my day maybe I could give that back lol

Just go use it. If you die you will loot up and get gear again. Its really not a big deal after you do it a few times. Also you just have to learn to have fun on the coast. The game would be alot more fun if more people wanted to talk. Just yesterday I spawned in on sahkal. Immediately found police car spawn unlooted. Got a r12 a couple shells, a press vest, and a glock. Went through a couple towns getting clothes, food, and what nots. Stopped in a house to warm up and cook food. I'm lock picked inside. A guy runs up we and we chat. I give him rope so he can fish. As im heading out he comes back with fish. We shoot the shit as he cooks. I was going to log off and wasnt going to be back on thst map for a bit so I threw my r12 with 2 shots down and asked if he wanted it. He picked it up and blasted me in the face. Haha. The classic dayz double cross. I'm on console so I knew his gamer tag. I messaged him that it was a classic move on dayz. He said something snarky back to me, we had a good laugh and each went on our day. Dying and losing gear is just part of it. Getting g it back is the fun part especially when you have some fun interactions and its not just immediately getting domed from behind and those interactions only happen early game. I have found trying to force interaction early is the most fun to be had in dayz. Watch a sour video. The way he tries to talk to damn near everyone is how I like to be. If you find the fun in the early game dying late game doesnt seem to hurt as bad. Good luck.

  • Remember there is no "gearfear" no fear of losing anything. You play for a journey and random encounters, good or bad. You stand your ground or you live to fight another day. What a m4, dmr, maybe an svd...man what about that mk2 that just 1 tapped a plate carrier with nvgs. I love the foxes they added so cute

Love everything here but the foxes. They are the LOUDEST THING EVER.

Those foxes jump scare me more than anything

  • The biggest thing I can tell you about how I got over gear fear is to gear up FAST. Aim to achieve whatever you need to go hunt survivors within minutes of spawn.

What I mean is don't just rush Vybor after spawning. Grab a peacoat, a Mosin and ammo from a hunting stand then begin stalking within 30 mins of waking up on the beach. An AK and plate carrier are nice to have, sure. But you must become comfortable with using much, much less effectively.

How to get over gear fear? Become deadly as fast as possible with much less gear. You know what defeats the M4 plate carrier? Landing the first shot.

  • Im on ur ass lil bro , waiting for u to step in the server and its over

I'm horrified of people like you

    That’s the problem

  • If you feel yourself hiding away too much and losing that itch to go out and seek adventure I’d recommend this.

Make a stash of your most prized loot, maybe the NVGs or your favourite sniper or rifle. Keep it minimal.

Then go out and do what you were scared to do! Completely normal to have that angst and fear, no other game does this for me personally.

Go seek adventure, take on an encounter or two.

    I think it might help!

  • ā€œIt’s not your gear, you’re just borrowing itā€

    Enough with that

  • It's quite normal to have this. Because it's a game without timelimit. Fortnite for example is a game you will to 100% lose everything after 20 minutes and you have to move so you don't care and take risks, because you HAVE TO do it. In DayZ it's the opposite situation. You maybe won't see anyone in hours and it took a lot of time to collect this nice gear. Then of course you will be more careful. Maybe you see another player, but it's one of those 3 others online so will be even more careful now. I have this near Gorka. It seems like deserted but there is always something going on. Shoot into the Air with a DMR or any hunting rifle and they will come from every direction.Ā

  • You will die due to lack of skill. You can’t get better if you don’t play. Can’t get better if you don’t die- you want more gear in the future you have to play and be better. I get it though- the game has many phases- having bad gear fear happens when you are most into the game so that’s fun

  • The more you die, the more you’ll realise how easy it is to get that gear back again. Therefore, it loses its value and your gear fear will go away. I remember feeling the same when I first started playing but thankfully I had friends with experience who showed me not to operate that way and just play the game.

Also, odds are you’ll go out in a fight. At least, that’s more likely than you just getting 1 tapped depending on how/where you play. People who get gear fear often haven’t been in many fights in my experience. So get out there and use your precious loot before it gets wiped anyway.

  • Play some Tarkov or ABI. You'll get over gear fear REAL quick lol

  • I mean, you'll find it again eventually. That's really all I can say.

  • My main problem is the progression. I get & accept i will die and lose all of my stuff - but after so many hours, whats the point of that? Should i be building bases or secret stashes in the woods to come back to?

how many players actually do that versus just surviving with what they find until they die?

personally, i just survive with what i find until i die. that's probably bc i actually suck and am new, but i don't really have attachments to gear–it comes and goes. i mean, i definitely feel like "fuck," but i get to do it over again.

  • If the gear fear ever gets to you bad, just go find an actual friendly freshy and bless him with a kit, or knock them out then put your gear on them for a reverse robbery šŸ˜Ž

  • You look like someone i'd snipe with my mosin while you're drinking from a well, and i'm on the hill in Gorka.

  • How are you gonna know how cool that gear is unless you use it? Besides, you can get most of it or comparable stuff back in a day or two playing.

  • Adapt your playstyle. Become one with the shadows. Be silent. Be watchful. Be deadly.

  • As you are experiencing: end game is no fun if you over value gear. Just force yourself to play as normal, get used to endgame guns and points of interests. Then die and enjoy gearing up again. Less stress, not combat only gameplay.

  • The way to get over gear fear is to start challenging kills on much more geared guys early game. Once you realise how it feels to kill a plate carrier & M4 player with a shotgun you will be more comfortable having nothing.

  • Drive down NWAF in a gunter when the server is high pop, helps me

  • If you don't play with this character, you've already lost the loot. What's the point of not playing?

  • To run around with a greneade unpinned your hand and if you get shot it either is like an menu where you get 2-1 deal or someone gonna go Home disapointed and not getting shit (your loot Cause its destroyed)

  • I totally get the feeling of the ā€œgear fearā€ and how you might not enjoy the idea of finding the loot again. Totally understandable. However, in my opinion its best to view the run your currently on as part of the ā€œjourneyā€ ive got about 700 hours under my belt, and I have found some of the absolute most enjoyable moments were starting off fresh with zero expectations, looting areas Ive never been to, not worrying about risks because, hey I got nothing to lose and everything to gain right now. Once you’re geared, just start chasing shots honestly. You don’t have to engage in a fire fight, maybe try a friendly approach, you literally never know what could happen. This game is truly one of a kind. What fun is getting geared up & then never playing? The famous saying is, its not your gear, just your turn with it.

  • bury shit, bury shit everywhere!! lol

  • It's never your gear, just your turn to use it.

  • I get it, pretty normal feeling. I try to run as minimal gear as possible, no tier 3&4 military loot for me. I like a civilian look, cz 527 or mosin, pistol. It makes loosing it no biggie. I do play official so cheaters are a real threat and I’ve died to them many times, no sense on me loosing a dmr to hacking. Everyone’s different tho, stash maybe?

  • You have enough gear to avoid towns now, just wait in the hills/trees at a popular spot. For me half the fun is looting up..... I get bored when I'm fully geared

  • I find I get so far, scrabbling about, exploring and occasionally recognising somewhere. I'm very new.

Eventually I get to a point I fire all my guns and save 1 for myself.... F11 and go begin again.

Hardly seen anyone yet, occasional freshie at the start and the two geared guys I've come across KOS so yeah.

    Have fun.

  • Go play rust

Lmaooooo the ultimate killer of gearfear

Yup and I get downvoted for giving a real answer šŸ™„

    I didn’t do it lmao

Ah I know. people just dog on rust

people have crazy bad gear fear on rust too lol. They’ll have a box of ak’s and go out with tommy or db all the time

  • A dmr in the woods is a lonely life.

A sledgehammer on the coast is a party

  • Yeah. My advice for getting over your gear fear is suicide yourself everytime you get "good" gear. That way you're used to it, and if someone else does it, no biggie, you'd probably do it, anyway. Edit: it might not be great advice, but that's what I do. Lmao.

I've heard this a couple times. I'd be open to try this but id rather go out in a more creative way. Like pushing a team of 6 in an attempt to kill them all planning to die along the way. Having more creative control over my death beats me up just a little bit less because at least I made the decision to die

Do exactly that, hop on with plans to push NWAF or Tisy while hitting places like Starry and Zeleno otw. Just creative suicide

I agree. Do it. You will probably end up killing more people then you thought and come out with even BETTER gear. Then get shot opening a door.

I find that when I don't have a lot to lose I end up winning a lot more of my gunfights...

If you want to give yourself a kick up the arse but are too scared to leave your hidey hole due to sniper fear, hit the server when it's early/low pop & get yourself to NWAF. Log back on when it's busy & you'll almost certainly get a fight, so you can feel like it's worth dying for.

Plus the first hour of a new life is always great, so there's that to look forward to.

  • Regain stashes !

  • Honestly i’ve always went with It’s just a part of the game It’s either I win or you win just be better than next time

  • Just build a stash and throw somewhere you familiar with, you are pretty much restarting or leave half of the gear somewhere, if you die you can go back and grab the other half, like a second life type of thing idk

  • Retreat to a tier 1 zones and go off the grid. Eventually you’ll get so bored that you’ll start picking fights in the tier 2 zones

  • Just play the game man. Half the fun is restarting as a freshie. Once you realize how to survive the elements it really doesn't take long to get kitted up again.

  • It's just your turn bro. Get a new life! Go give that gear to a freshie and keep the game alive!

  • After so long it will become so automatic and easy to get back geared it won’t even matter.

  • If you’ve found it once you’ll find it again

  • Die, gear up, die, repeat. Once you do it enough you both learn how to get good and have fun with shit gear and you learn how to gear up pretty fast. It also adds variety because even getting good gear a 2nd time could be a total different loadout than last run. Once you do that gear fear goes away.

  • Spawn in and f11

  • Go to the coast, find a freshie, talk and see if theyre friendly and if you feel they are worthy, F11 and leave them with all your gear. You then start the best part of the game again -- getting geared!

  • Starting anew is the most fun part tbh having heaps of gear gets a little stale

  • It's a game, you win, you lose, the early to mid is my favorite and settings goals and objectives. I use stashes only for that character once they die it starts over. Sometimes it's as simple as a black field jacket and it takes a day or it's 65 attempts and 5 months of trying to finish the deerisle quest. Whatever it is that keeps you going at the end of the day it's a game and it's way more fun being geared to the teeth and having a close encounter and having to struggle to stay alive hobbling through a busy town just hoping you can get to the medical hoping there's some meds.

  • Honestly I found playtime to be the biggest thing . If I have a m4/dmr and full kit I’ll still drive cars and do everything like that and play lots but i definitely outweigh the payoff of what I’ll get off them vs what I risk losing and if I don’t feel like it’s worth I just dip . Is if I’m rocking like a ak or something I’ll push every shot and play a little bit more carefree with my play style .

  • Think of it as , "not here for a long time, here for a good time."

  • My advice is join a gun game server for like 45 mins and then hop on this guy

  • It sucks loosing nvgs but I always love resetting. Having full stamina and a shotgun is where it’s at

  • If you don’t use it, someone’s will take it from you eventually- and use it.

  • best way to get over gear fear is to lose gear

  • You'll get over gear fear naturally once you realize the best part of the game is starting over and gearing up again.

  • I’d say the best way of getting over gear fear is knowing the server is going to do a full reset at some point and nomatter playing or not everyone loses their stuff.

  • End the run yourself instead of being paranoid of other players stalking. Its how I got over gear fear: Set some goals, and once those goals are accomplished, pull the trigger on yourself in game and start a new run.

  • If you don't use the gear you have, then you have already lost it.

  • I was the same🤣 but first thing to do is just find barrels or dry bags, and bury most important loot, and the more runs and the more loot, I’m not bothered if I die now, makes it way more enjoyable

  • Accept you’ve lost it all before going into each town and forest looking for the guy that will end you.

Seek them out on purpose, give yourself that control. That’s all I see it as, a fear of lacking control. We all fear what can’t be controlled.

  • Honestly, the best part is the anxiety & struggle lol the very minute I get a plate carrier, long range weapon with a good handful of ammo and everything to keep me alive without ever touching a town, the game gets boring quick lol

If I build a base, some cocksucker will raid it while I’m at work or asleep anyway lol

  • For me, the game is most fun when you're starting fresh, you get to look for buddy to start a new run with.

  • The most fun comes from the adventures and encounters you make to get all the gear. You maybe loose your gear but u learned some new mechanics and routes so your next run will be more successfull, kinda like a roguelite game.

  • Find a Schovel and a drybag and stash that shii

  • Start a stash and you'll never have to worry again. I have so many weapons built up I must have 10+ loadouts to use. Dying is just an excuse to go break out the LAR or M4 etc. This leads to me being aggressive in PvP, which often pays off since the majority of other players are scared wimpy babies with their loot. Leads to a lot of fun and rewarding scenerios and allows you to play like you wouldn't believe.

  • Die more. Anyone who measures the success of their run by its length is an idiot. The more you die and the more loot you lose the less it will effect you, just get up to some action

  • Its a tough thing brother but I promise once you do the game is more fun. Tis part of the skill curve in this game, even geared you're only as good as the experience shows :p s'why you practice by playing often or doing event servers n stuff.

  • Play more PvP servers. A good one is pvp4. Your spawn in full geared. And you will die again and again eventually making you feel better about gear fear IMO

  • I had gearfear when i first started but once i got confident in finding loot and surviving it just left, i only get mad at dying when it’s a bullshit reason, if i zigged when i should have zagged or something or if i’m dumb enough to let somebody backstab me is the only time i get pissed off at the game. I have no gear fear whatsoever but my playing style is unique i think

  • Only way is to play the game long enough and die much enough to know where exactly you need to go to get these gears back. A better way would be vanilla+ servers that give extra loots and infinite stamina for travel. But overall, be actively take part in PvP is the key. You kill enough people that also geared as you, you will overcome it

  • Just remember: if you die, it’s because you suck!

  • I try to look at it as a rush for the love of battle. Better gear means easier time for me generally in combat. Meaning if I die to a player(s) they deserve the win/gear. If not then I add more skulls to my collection, and I relish in the glory of a good fight. On the contrary, restarting fresh just allows that same cycle to continue for myself to another player. I.E. low tier gear facing a fully geared player and the hopes of taking him/her down. Idk it’s just what I get off to. I love the struggle and the fight.

  • I just always think of it as it's not my gear just my turn with it

  • Once you're geared its time to go out there and get into a fight. Its what makes this game so intense all the time you out into getting the stuff. I always felt like there wasn't much else to do after being geared so might as well risk it all.

  • Press f11
    Fr, do it to yourself
    Get used to losing it

  • It’s not yours it just your turn brother

  • Think about how happy someone who kills you will be getting all that gear. Then make it your mission to become vengeance incarnate and hunt them down.

  • Think about it, the beach is the best place really. New adventure, not worried about stuff, talk to other players, hunt for equipment.

Once geared, then what, worry about getting shot in a video game :)

Make different "quests" each life. Currently I am only allowing myself to live in the town I spawned into. I need to try and survive as long as I can with sticks, stones and bones. No modern stuff.

Last quests was a boat cruise and visit all the remote parts of the coast.

There is more to grabbing high end gear.

    Good luck, be well!

  • Play official servers.

Once you die 10 times in a row after spawning in, you accept that you can die at any moment to hackers, KOS players, wolves, illness... even when you're fully geared.

  • I got over it through this sentence "see it like this it's not your's but instead it's your turn using it"

  • I think the biggest way of getting over gear fear is by thinking "what is the point of having all this gear and never having the chance to use it"

  • This is the one game I don’t have any gear fear. What I have is what I have. I can’t choose where to respawn, and I’m fairly confident I can win almost any fight. It’s a game of chess when fighting and fully played vs another guy with a rifle. I win. If I don’t, I pursue it all over again. It agitates me a little bit. But then the next day I’m dying to do it again, so who’s to blame

  • Yeah you gotta be ready to head to the beach at any second. Realest thing I’ve heard is your gear is leased on owned. Just don’t what I did a few weeks ago and panicked and try to log out when someone starts shooting at you. I couldn’t see them and I tried to hide and log out. Bro busted me 2 seconds before I was out. It would have been worth the fight but I was trying to protect my gear. Lesson learned.

  • was never your loot brother, just your turn with it

  • You don't even have a matching outfit what the fuck do you mean by gear fear.

  • If your scared to die this game ain't for you your just holding the loot for the next player every time you die you learn something even truer when you start the game but as a 6 year vet when I die fully stacked I learn something that's the way the game is and always will be truth is it's not the gear that matters but the freshies we met along the way

  • What you can do is build a stash with all of your best gear, then get yourself geared again, then stash that too. Then get yourself geared again. Congratulations, you are now a loot hoarder.

  • Just play enough. I’ve played for so long and lost so many characters that death doesn’t matter to me anymore. It’s a plus if you manage to survive so long that you don’t have to loot anymore because you have the best gear you can find. Then next time your geared you remember you’re still not as geared as that one time and it won’t hurt as much when you die.

  • You can always get gear. Glory my friend, glory is much harder to acquire. I fucking 1v7’d a whole geared faction by myself in the cliff top by the coast. 2 a time, then 1 at a time. I was surrounded by more gear I could even hope to transport. In the end one of them shot me and took my S+ tier kit. Do not give a fuck that was amazing pvp.

  • Im fairly new to Day-Z, I kinda suck at combat so far. Or maybe I sit too far from the tv or something because people always see me before I see them. I’ve been geared as geared can get and in the moment it sucks to die. But starting over and the grind to find gear is part of the fun. I know a duper, I could easily get him to drop me a kit but that’s just not fun to me. So just don’t worry about it. Start over and gear up again. That’s all the fun.

  • Press F11 and you will be free of that gearfear until you learn just to play with good stuff no matter if you lose it, until then just gear up yourself and then press F11 to be free of your limitations...

  • Drop all your good/valuable stuff in a stash in a safe place and start again looking for the same good stuff. If you die, you know that stuffs safe... that's what I do.... making stashes of all the good stuff so when I did I can gear up asap

  • The only way I can get over gear fear is to run with someone. If im solo i get scared af and just log once i got a decent kit. If im running with a friend or a random then im pushing every shot I hear.

  • Just fight another one and when he kills you go hunting to get it back always fun

  • [deleted]

The auto caps on every word is crazy lmao had me tripping for a second lol.

I know man! It makes me read every word individually rather as part of a sentence. Feels like I’m learning to read again haha

  • To be really honest with you, put yourself into a position where you can, and most likely WILL loose it. Take on gun fights, or run towards shots. Dying always sucks no matter the hours you have. I have over 4k hours and still roll my eyes when I die. But nowdays I will kill 10-20 players per life. It becomes more of a ā€œhow many can I killā€ rather than ā€œhow do I not dieā€. Alot more enjoyable. Always remember your gear isn’t yours, it’s just your turn.

  • I usually go back out to the lower tiered areas to pick an unfair fight or two, and then work my way back in to the center of the map to have some more fair fights (die) and then then repeat. Once you've at least gotten to use your gear once or twice, it doesn't hurt as bad to lose it

  • And you're also kinda hogging gear from other people that would actually play and use it

It always respawns so not really .

    No it doesn't

It does tho lol. If I go and get a set of nvg from the bunker in about 25- 30 minutes there will be new gear . The gear always respawns . Might not be exactly what you want but most places that spawn the very best of the best usally every 30 minutes they respawn

Nope. Go ahead and look on an official server before restart. Items don't respawn on restart, they stay the exact same.

Wow ur right items never ever respawn there must be 1 can of beans left on all servers by now 😭🤔

I had some idiot tell me that since I had 3 adas no more cars would spawn and I was hoarding them . Then proceeded to tell me how many hrs he had on the game trying to flex . He sounded pretty silly ngl

    Not what I said .

Bro I did not say they respawn in restart lol. Read it again

Server dependent, and on official it respawns within the hour - mostly somewhere else around. The total on map mostly relies on the spawned items, not inventory. So if someone picks up.a DMR, another one will spawn soon enough (unless it's a very low pop server, there it might take some more time

    It doesn't but okay

Take a look in the spawnableitems.xml all objects have a minimum, maximum and a weight of when they're respawning (fast or slow) They're just not respawning on the same time/ place.
