I absolutely adore how this sword looks, such a shame it's dogshit. Anyone knows how to make it work a bit better?

  • Power Within and if you're a chad/stacey then go hypermode with red tear stone ring. Get cursed, wear dusks ring, keep vigor low, wear the sanctum and you can now indefinitely stay in rtsr range while buffed by power within

But quite frankly power within alone is enough to make it decent

  • There are certainly better swords in the game, but honestly people have beaten the game with the broken straight sword, so if you’re really in love with it use it. Just gonna have to git gud to compensate for the lower damage potential

  • Mod the game to make it a regular titanite upgrading weapon rather than a twinkling titanite upgrading weapon.

By the time you hit +10, its basically equal to the longsword buffed with great magic weapon at base stats

Hitting +15 makes it about the same as a darkmoon blade buffed longsword at base stats

it's not the best straight sword, or even the best holy weapon, but it's at least worth using at that point.

Edit: Justification - Oscar of Astora is equipped with a +8 version of the Astora Straight Sword. The game actually accepts it as a titanite upgrading weapon just changing the upgrade path and costs. The damage upgrades it gets as a twinkling titanite weapon are weak compared to other twinkling titanite weapons.

I'm on xbox tho, no way of modding

Got a mod recommendation for that?

  • You don't know the first time, because you don't know what you don't know, but its the first sign that the game is gonna really make you work to go OP as a cleric. Once you get there though, especially if you go Pyro Cleric, you can melt everything in the game. The sword still sucks though.

  • It works perfectly fine as an early game faith build weapon or catacomb/tomb diver.

But I always ditch it once I have the divine embers and/or killed all the necromancers in the catacombs.

If you like the fashion, go for it. Even though its a weak weapon late game its still possible to beat the game with any weapon.

  • You look like Will the Wise

    That’s the Astora Gay Sword

  • Same. I use it for my co-op build, but unupgraded it doesn't even last after the Gargoyles.

  • Power within is your best bet, you'll have to make up yourself with skill and be patient with it's low damage

  • Agreed. It seems like it would be a pretty powerful weapon. Alas, it is as you say: dogshit.

If it had been upgradable with the normal titanite path, up to +15, might have been decent.

  • maybe if it had an A scaling in faith it would be good

Yup, this is the main issue. Mid base damage and mid scaling across 3 stats. It's a great way to set yourself up for the real Artorias great sword but as it stands, it's mid af past Darkroot Basin

  • Is it just the lighting, or am I seeing you wielding basically the Crystal Sword from Elden Ring here?

  • Level faith and strenght and upgrade the weapon to +5 asides from that you can't do to much

  • I like this sword

  • Feeling the same about Sunlight Straight Sword (Solaire cosplay playthrough) but after using it for a while and upgrading I can say I really like the move set, I just wish the jump/lunging attack was easier to pull off

Best just to not compare it to other options, take it as it is. The Astora Straight Sword scales equally with Str/Dex/Faith - so perhaps just lean into the Faith playstyle and use Lightning Spear/Wrath of the Gods etc even though you can’t enchant it with Darkmoon Blade or whatever. Power Within works great and you don’t even need to lvl up your pyromancy glove.

You could always just pump Faith to 50 for Sunlight Spear and leave Str and Dex at minimum requirements until you push further into NG+

  • Max it out and pump both dex & faith. Focus parrying with a parrying dagger in the offhand.

  • It wasn't too bad as a Divine weapon until I unlocked the ability to make my own, it's not the greatest but it's definitely not useless. Even low damage is okay when it's the only thing that keeps skeletons dead. It's especially good if you start as a Cleric on your first playthrough, have no idea what you're doing, and just want the cool lightning spells. That stat investment actually makes it better.

  • Ah, the A.S.S. sword, you were at my side, all along!

  • Just keep it handy for skeletons if you don’t want to upgrade a blunt weapon to divine.

  • Yes it's called: use a better weapon
