Inaugural post (mostly to keep this sub on my radar). My 2.5 yo twins definitely have a wider variety of food than I do…..They don’t eat it all, but still. It’s the thought that counts I guess.

  • Wait until they hit 5, and won't eat any of this!

They won't eat the food they loved yesterday -_-

Lately for me it’s been as soon as I buy the bulk version from Costco

    Turning on a dime.

    So. Much. Wasted. Foooood.

Yesterday right before sitting down to eat pasta that my wife cooked for dinner, my son announced that he no longer likes his favorite food, pasta. 🫠

God… the struggle is so real. It’s infuriating.

For us it started at two because that's when she started daycare. I work from home and was able to work while taking care of her. She ate damn near everything under the sun.

But then that first daycare sickness hit her and it was all dino nuggets and fucking applesauce and any kind of snack food. Sometimes the applesauce wouldn't even be touched.

Thankfully she'll be 6 this year and is finally branching out again. Mostly chicken nuggets, pizza and quesadillas. But she loves ramen and will eat some vegetables so I'll take what wins I can.

It’s funny because my 5 year old is sooo fussy but he’d happily ear all of this apart from the meat

    False....the berries are perennial.

My 10 month old is the hard opisit of her 4 year old brother.

He loves rice, she is hates it. She loves potatos, he hates em, patterns shows up in meats, fish, veggies, almost everything.

We have come to the point where we say "oh, she does not like it? I'm sure he will love it then"

  • Wait, your toddlers actually eat that? Holy shit.

The tortellini was hit or miss, but they devoured the rest of it.

Mine would gobble up the tortellini but no way he's touching that salami

One kid would gobble the salami, the other would gobble the bread. They'd both look at the cucumber like I tried to take a scoop from the cat box and put it on the plate.

One of mine has had developed the annoying habit of biting chunks off of his cucumber and spitting them on the floor🤦‍♂️ it drives me up the wall.

My 2 year old won't eat anything until he's put it in the floor first lol

Doesn’t fly around here! Ours have developed a healthy fear of the dog stealing their snacks haha

We usually have our boys in a room that is gated away from the dogs. We have 10 of the damn things (not my idea) so we have lots of measures in place.

Jesus y’all are running a zoo over there. We’ve only got the one, and he’s super tolerant of the kids so no problems there. He just steals the occasional Dino nuggie.

Don't ask about the 3 cats, 2 guinea pigs, bunny, sugar glider and 2 (used to be 5) goddamn parrots. Or the 40+ chickens and ducks we had before she got knocked up with #3.

Mine would reject this entire plate, wtf. Unless it’s chicken nuggets or flautas, it’s a no go.

Same lol my 2.5 year old MIGHT eat the blueberries and bread.

Lmao, bananas are what holding us in the fruit category right now. We “used” to eat blueberries, but one fever and voimiting weekend put blueberries firmly in the “yuck” category after.

Yeah we are usually restricted to Duno Nuggs or pizza but sometimes we can sneak cheese or pepperoni in.

Ah yeah, how could I forget pizza. One of the 6 things we eat lol

Our house would erupt in 2-4 year old mutiny if we ever ran out of Red Baron French Bread pizzas.

My sister’s kid is like that. Pickiest eater in the world it seems.

  • My 4.5 and 6 year old would crush that plate. Don’t let all these comments freak you out.

  • Soon they will be sticking out their tongues and rejecting it.. and you will be eating it (PSA don't eat anything they've touched or you will get sick, and don't eat ANYTHING that comes home from school in the lunchbox)

You'll get sick anyways. May as well eat it.

Yeah, the main thing is to not eat a dads portion before you see what "leftovers" you'll also be consuming.

No matter how many times I hear it and say it to myself...

    There's a reason I've gotten fat.

Is it ice cream? Because that was my gateway drug. I kept eating like I was 16 after the metabolism went away.

They're going to sneeze in your face, lick their hands and touch everything in the house, and make sure to wipe snot on literally everything they can reach so what's the difference in having some berries?

    Bingo.

And that way, at least the snot you wind up consuming will be berry flavored.

I don't know about y'all, but every bodily fluid fear I had disappeared with kids. There's so much of it, I've been simply desensitized.

Once you’ve been vomited and shit on a few times, nothing else really phases you.

One of mine gagged (literally gagged, I’d never seen that before) at a pancake, which until that point was their favorite food.

Oh man they stick their hands in my mouth anyway.

    Down the hatch food!

  • Teach me your ways. My kids would literally eat none of that.

We started real early with variety of foods. Probably wasted a lot, but putting it on a plate in front of them was worth it.

They’re berry hounds now, all they want is “blubberties”.

Maybe my son is an outlier, but I agree with that sentiment-start them early. His favourite foods are pho, sushi and tacos. Loves (mostly cooked) veggies and all fruit. Definitely helps that I was a chef for nearly 20 years and love food, but it’s the parents influence that’s crucial

I’m pretty sure introducing them to a variety of food early has been proven to help them eat better long term

  • Oh the good old days of 2.5. When my kid and I would crush a can of fancy sardines, cheese, and bread.

Wont even look at it anymore. They’ll be back. I did the same.

  • 10 week old twin dad over here. Any advice?

Schedule. Never, ever compromise on the schedule. You feed one? You feed both. One naps? They both nap.

If you let both of them have independent routines (especially if your wife is pumping/breastfeeding) you’ll never see a free moment until they’re a year and a half old.

The first 6 months is probably one of the hardest things you’ll ever do, especially as the dad. It’s unrealistically hard combining the overwhelming amount of effort involved with how little they seem to need you for a while. I felt absolutely fucking useless (I didn’t have any milk) for a long while, but I made up for it with being an absolute artist with swaddling and burping them.

Biggest thing I can say? Be there for your wife. Make her life easier right now. You’re a support class for the foreseeable future. BUT, once they develop a bit of a personality….brother it’s game on. Welcome to the best part of your life man.

DM me if you’ve got any other questions, I’ll answer to the best of my ability….you need all the help you can get honestly😅

Father of 3 year old twins and I 100% agree with this. I remember taking my kids to the Drs for their 1 month checkup and a mom was there with her 5 year old twins and she said "get them on the same schedule no matter what and stick to it". Good luck my guy, it does get easier while also getting infinitely harder. You'll never be happier and more miserable in your life lol

My twins are about to turn 4. Fully agreed on all counts. Live by the schedule, die by the schedule.

The app solidstarts is a fantastic resource for feeding kids. It tells you the age the food is safe for and age appropriate preparation methods.

  • Well the good news is you will get the leftovers. The better your kids eat,the better you eat...just after it's cold and while consuming it over the sink.

  • I wish my 2 year old would eat anything besides fruit 😭

Hey, fruit is a good one! At least it’s not like…crackers or something.

  • My wife asked me if my 1 year old had any steak and risotto left a couple of days back, and I only realized how wild a question that was until my father in law started laughing.

  • Super jealous of parents with kids that eat all the things. We finally graduated from pb sammiches to butter noodles with my 7YO and that was a high-five worthy win.

  • That's an amazing girl dinner. I would crush that too.

  • Very surprised they’ll eat pepper jack. I love spicy foods but my son absolutely hates spice even when he was that age and would eat anything we gave him

Enjoy it while it last, soon you’ll have 5 things they MIGHT eat depending on their mood 🥲

Pepper jack surprised me too. One of mine rejected it the other day just cause it looked different than the cheddar he likes, but they both ate it this go around.

Also mine use the word “spicy” for things that are either spicy or sour. So that’s adorably fun. Limes for instance are spicy.

  • They just saving some for dad!

Im not losing any weight lol!

  • Hold up so they eat it and don't throw it?

  • Drop the salami

Nah then the dog would get it, silly.

cats toddlers can have little a salami as a treat

Some people just like to ruin their children’s taste buds at young age and then they wonder why they won’t eat any regular food.

What is “regular”? What is normal to some cultures is abnormal to another. There’s nothing inherently wrong with cured meats, unless you’re a vegan lol..

Salami is a group 1 carcinogen.

Lol. Man, everything causes cancer. 2 slices of salami won’t do anything.

  • Needs more protein.
