Gargoyle are just as weak to bolts as they are to crush (also to earth spells). Assuming they have rock hammers (or thrown rock hammers) to finish the kill this is just as viable as any other way to kill gargoyles (if perhaps a bit expensive on ammo use but if you need to train ranged anyways, why not)
Well they got one thing right atleast, gargoyles have -15 def to bolts if memory serves.

Pro tip: If you have the granite hammer equipped or in the inventory it auto crushes without having to spend slayer points.
