I think I have 2a/2b hair but I really don't know if I'm forcing it and curls aren't for me because I've never been able to make them last past a day.

I've had frizzy/wavy hair all my life and started to treat it as curly a few years ago (scrunch to dry, no heat, moisturising products) but never really put in any effort. i could get a few very loose frizzy ringlets but at the back it just had a bit of a wave and was majorly frizzy. I'm sick of looking so haggard though so decided to invest in some products and give them a try, but I swear my hair looks worse than if I just did nothing. Here's what I did before the pictures:

Routine:

  1. Nizoral shampoo (bc of sc4lp issues)
  2. Ethqiue wonderbar solid conditioner
  3. Lush Sticky Dates leave in conditioner raked through damp hair out of the shower

  4. Lush Curl Power curl cream scrunched through the damp hair

  5. Air dried, plopping for about an hour

I never use heat on my hair and always air dry. UK climate. Virgin hair.

I have never been able to tame my frizz.

Any idea what's causing this? Untamable frizz and hair that mostly lays flat but curls up at the ends? sorry for the negative tone to this post, just so sick of nothing working and feel like shaving it all off sometimes.

  • Hi there! I'm a bot, and I've been summoned to help.

If you have not seen our WIKI yet: Please check it out! It's nearly 100 pages full of curated information to help answer all of your curl-related questions. You can use the included Table of Contents (page 2), the side bar, or CTRL-F to search for keywords and help navigate the document.

Reminder: Curl type is NOT your hair type! Whether you are wavy, curly, or coily - you have texture and you belong here. More than that, your curl type doesn't dictate how you care for your hair. To help your curls thrive, we recommend instead using the wiki link above to learn about your porosity, texture, and density.

If this is a photo submission: Please include your detailed routine for your post to remain active! This MUST include the brands of ALL products used, order of application and technique used to apply them, how you dried your hair, and anything else that you might find useful for people to know.

If you received this message in error: Please disregard this comment! I probably just picked up on a keyword in your title.

Thank you. Wishing you many happy, wonderfully curly hair days!

  • You should try a product with hold. Curl cream has some hold but it's usually mild. Also, if you get something with hold, don't use curl cream at the same time. It might be too heavy for your hair to use both.

  • Your hair looks like mine when the product is too heavy. Try using a mousse and/or gel. I recommend the herbal essences hair mousse or the dippity do hair mousse.

I also recommend drying your hair with a diffuser if you have one.

    Good luck!

  • I wonder what it would look like if it grew out more. I think for some people their hair starts to curl more after a certain length.

Alternatively, it could curl more if shorter. Mine does . Also my curls don't really last past a day either, I think due to just having fine hair

  • Idk but my hair is super similar! Will be paying attention to answers!

  • Gel applied to soaking wet hair will help with frizz - something relatively light like Umberto Giannini might help.

A bounce curl brush can help with volume and definition higher up in your hair but does take a little practice to learn to use it.

I find that plopping just makes my fine 2a/b hair undefined and frizzy. Consider microplopping with a microfiber towel instead.
