Probably my worst bender so far. Not the longest but the most alcohol. Drank every waking moment for 5 days, was on like a litre of vodka every day and also the beers that I got to try taper off, which I couldn't do on account of just drinking in a frenzy until I ran out of booze and money.
Now I'm not doing too hot. I can't even keep down water, I throw up everything. Shakes so bad I can barely walk or hold my phone to write this. So tired but can't sleep, can only doze. I don't even have any benzos or anything. Hallucinated a bit, saw weird shapes in the corner of my eyes. I managed to eat a couple times during the bender, and that's probably saving me. Fuck this. Chairs
Update: found brandy. It's not sitting well but I'm still kicking, I guess. I have this raggedy stuffed toy of a cat, and I have been irrationally clinging to it while I tremble and shiver and sweat and fun combinations of it all. If I do have to go hospital, I might take it with me. I would look retarded but I probably also do for drinking litres of vodka as a woman who is on the smaller side.
Great! Not sitting well with the usual trembles and shivers and sweats (but still kicking and with little fluffy as company) is a far cry from shaking so hard you can't type and hallucinating. Use the brandy to stay in this zone and sip & suffer as they say. You'll be OK most likely.
I've got bad news for you. You're going to need some booze. Shaking that bad with hallucinations and visual disturbances means you're in the danger zone. Is there anyone you can call for a favor, say a bottle of whiskey, or any change you can scrape together for a bottle of rotgut? Counting out quarters & assorted change on a 7-11 counter while shaking like a retard is preferable to having a seizure.
Or, you know, just go to the hospital.
Second this. If tapering isn't working go check in, maybe grab a pint if you can just to get yourself there.
Yeah this is seizure territory.
I stopped abruptly and had audible hallucinations and about 24ish hours into my detox had a seizure and wound up in the ER. Either taper or go to the ER. You do not want to have a seizure alone
Yikes. How much had you been drinking and for how long?
I was in the same situation 10 days ago. I must have been sick or dry heaved about 40 times a mix of water bile and blood. Eventually when the actual sickness stopped I got meal replacement shakes and lived on them for 3 days then moved onto chicken broth. Acid reflux hurt too much to eat. Best thing I did was just stay in bed and rest. Have you got anyone with you? If you haven’t maybe a trip to hospital or the doctor just to be on the safe side. I hope you’re better soon.
It's the inability to hold down anything combined with your stomach being at war COMBINED with knowing you will throw up. The water will make it burn less BUT will also trigger the vomiting.
All this while shaking and sweating.
Yeah man you need like 3 shots stat to get out of this hole. Buy a 10 pack of fireball shooters for $10. Just take a couple to feel ok and drink one when shit gets rough.
ER
You won't want to eat, you will shake, you will have terrible, unbelievable nightmares. You might vomit. You'll sweat and it will smell unbelievably bad. It's just awful, and you have to be prepared for that, unfortunately.
I smell like a brewery made of vomit probably. This is such a fun lifestyle and I'll totally change my ways
I hope you are using that Brandy on a slow taper. You can do this. Its going to be a bit of pure misery but sip and suffer does work. Ive done it before. No urge to repeat anytime soon. Wishing you luck. You got this
If you have a friend or family member you can ask for help, maybe explain your situation and see if they can bring you some booze to taper off it. Maybe another CA is you know one?
Going cold turkey can be pretty miserable and hard on your body. I wish you a safe recovery.
Yeah I can't keep anything down, though. My stomach is not moving stuff along. Last night I threw up the noodles I'd eaten more than like 12 hours before. One teeny sip of water just comes back up after a few mins.
Alcohol is also absorbed through mucous membranes in your mouth, throat, and esophagus. You don't need your stomach right now, you need booze being absorbed pre-digestion. Once you get enough of a BAC going, your stomach will begin working again. Be prepared to go to the hospital.
Your noodles came back up undigested 12 hours later? Hallucinations? Get to a hospital.
Get some electrolytes and b-vitamins. The cheapest easiest way for electrolytes is a carton of Mortons lite salt and a bottle of magnesium citrate solution
1/4 tsp mortons lite salt and 1/2 tsp magnesium citrate solution in a one or two liter bottle of water. I'd recommend spiking it with some gin and lemon juice. About 1 oz of Gin to 12 oz of the electrolyte water mix. Add some lemon if you want.
can you try and properly taper rather than just stop abruptly?
Time you’ll get through it. Just keep trying to keep down water, small sips and have a bit to eat, even though you don’t want to. Some bread or crackers. It’ll help soak up the bile and help you to start keeping things down. Put on some tv so you have a distraction too. Sleep is gonna suck for a few days at least. This is all par for the course unfortunately. By day 2/3 you should start to get some relief. Good luck.
This is dangerous advice. This might help for a bad hangover, not hallucination inducing alcohol withdrawals. He needs some booze and a ride to the ER before his organs start to shut down.
Egh, I’ve done it many times. He was only on a 5 day bender, he’s not been drinking for years. It’s shitty, but by day 2/3ish I’m starting to see the light. Hell, I just went through it again in the beginning of January. As long as I’m aware that the hallucinations aren’t real, I’ll get through it. Mine are usually music and glimpses of mice and things. So maybe not so bad? Sometimes there’s no more money and my body can’t take anymore booze. Just gotta ride it out to get back to reality.
You know what's funny, I saw a bug crawling along my arm and I was like "wtf" cuz I haven't hallucinated a bug in years. I used to see spiders and stuff. But this time it was a real bug that decided to fuck with me. Bit mean of it.
Anyway I have been bending really hard this winter season, this was my third big bender in about three weeks. The other two I tapered off okay but this time I got so fucked up that I ended up screwing myself over. But I was basically black out the last two days of it. Can't remember shit. Bruised to hell from falling over. I woke up and had left myself like half a 30cl of vodka which I immediately drank and all it did was hold off the WDs for like an hour.
A real bug ugh! And the bruising can be awful. I try to cover them up, but it never looks really natural. 99% of the time I don’t even know where they come from. I really hope you start feeling better. I always try to remember these feelings you’re having now, to keep myself from even starting. I think it’s easier to not start drinking then it is to trust my buzzed self to moderate and stop after only a few. Your original post was a day ago, your about half way to starting to feel better. Hang in there and try to get some food and water in if you can function now (which it seems you can as your writing on here, which is great!) Good luck!
I've stopped throwing up constantly but I'm still fucked up, but hopefully it's beginning to actually ease up. The main problem right now is no REM sleep. I just close my eyes and trip balls for an hour and wake up and repeat. I had to get out of bed and speak to my mother, who thinks I have caught a stomach flu (??? idk how she believes that but it's good!). It took me twenty minutes to get out of bed. And then I just sat there and trembled and hid my eyes from the daylight for the longest 45 mins of my life.
Yup. This all sounds about right. It might take a week or so to get your sleep back to normal-ish, but it’ll slowly start to get better around day 3/4. Some people take a Benadryl to help get some sleep, but I usually just tough it out without the Benadryl. Waking up is the worst part of the day usually. Just let mom think you have the flu unless she’s a drinker too. Then she might be able to help. I’ll never figure out why we do this to ourselves. You got this!!! One more day until you'll start feeling a bit better. And trust me, it’s such a relief when you start making the turn.
