• Why is this such a pervasive problem in these kinds of communities lmao

Honestly, I think it's just because these solitary hobbies based on nerdy escapism attract people with severe mental illnesses or social deficiencies and those kinds of people are far less likely to be aware of what other people think or to take good care of themselves.

It's a shame though, I've been around Warhammer circles for half my life and the vast majority of dudes in the hobby are totally normal guys, it's just that minority that give these nerdy hobbies a bad rep.

I just got back from Kill Team night. It really is like, 7 normal guys, and one dude who can't figure out that I don't wanna roll dice against the belly roll he's resting on the table.

There is a reason "that guy" is a meme. There is always at least one.

I get so paranoid of the stereotype I shower and wash before every day of every event.

    Dead noses?

Pro tip: If you wonder if you need to shower today before heading out, the answer is always yes.

    There. You're all welcome.

  • I always remember when I used to go to gaming stores to play 40k, the Warhammer guys smelled mostly okay (couple of stinky weirdos), the D&D crowd were fine (lot more women in that group) but the TCG players absolutely STANK.

And even within that, some were way worse than others. The place was unbearable whenever a big group was in to play Yu-Gi-Oh.

Yu-Gi-Oh, MTG, and Smash. Something about them just draws a certain crowd.

Every guy I’ve ever known who gets into mtg or Pokémon cards or whatever is at least a little “off”. I’ve never even been surprised to hear someone is into these games, I should say. It’s a stereotype for a good reason.

I brought a girlfriend to a comic book store to kill some time, but there was a huge Yu-Gi-Oh tournament going on. She was curious about it so I brought her to the tournament room (I would say at least 100 participants), as soon as she stepped in the room she gagged and ran out the door. In the car I had to explain that I am in no way connected with that and I just like the comics and collectibles. She said it was one of the worst smells she had ever smelt. It completely ruined the whole night and I could tell it really affected her.

Another booster pack, or a can of deodorant? The choice is obvious thank you very much

  • I used to play a lot of MtG at a couple of different LGS that also ran events with YuGiOh and a couple of times a year they would have big Smash tournaments too. MtG players were mostly adults and reasonably well put-together. Sometimes there would be an MtG event right after a YuGiOh event and every time the store would be left with a filthy musk.

The absolute worst though was anytime there was a big Smash tournament and we would go to the shop for cards or something. Like a fog as thick as pea soup but smells like pits and balls. Competitive SSB players are consistently gag-inducingly nasty.

and when you call them out on it they look at you like you're the asshole.

  • I've lost count of the employees who i have had to have a "little word" with about their hygiene. Every single one nodded and apologised, but not a single one has ever changed and they were as stinky the next day as they were on the day i had a little word with them.

I’ll never understand how these kinds of people don’t change their habits from the sheer embarrassment of having somebody tell you that you noticeably and consistently smell like shit. I can’t wrap my brain around it

  • Stinky day, indeed

  • This is like 10 years old.

Yeah man it says it's from 2015?
