Look for things packed in plastic rather than those walmart boxes of pasta and you'll have less issue with pests in storage. Or decant into soda bottles or airtight buckets. Keep them pest free and they'll be good for decades.
It is cheap and easy to build up months worth of emergency supply. Bulk buy herbs and spices to make them more interesting and nutritious. Store some jars of honey and jam for the porridge and tomato or curry sauce for the rice and pasta if you like.
