The files (and other evidence yet unseen) have been in the possession of the DOJ and related agencies for years. They had plenty of time to sort through all, and to categorize based on specific criteria -- (threat posed via information exposed). Something like:
A) Files marked as NEVER to be released
B) Files to be released, but only after redactions
C) Files that could be released with no redactions
The low level grunts doing the redacting would only have access to files in categories B and C, as they contain no information that might pose a significant threat to the Controllers. Indeed, some of these redaction leaks may have been planted intentionally so that the public would believe they were "seeing behind the curtain", when they were merely being hoodwinked yet again.

From working with government employees and helping them with redactions (nothing related to this case), it's almost always because they are using a free version of Adobe or a 3rd party PDF editor... often times because they are taking work home and working after hours on a time sensitive request.

The low level grunts doing the redacting would only have access to files in categories B and C, as they contain no information that might pose a significant threat to the Controllers. Indeed, some of these redaction leaks may have been planted intentionally so that the public would believe they were "seeing behind the curtain", when they were merely being hoodwinked yet again.

At least the first document shown on that page has publicly available with vulnerable redaction since March 2023. (Archive of CourtListener with the same redactions and the same vulnerability.) So, it's possibly more a case of institutional incompetence that runs deep.

From working with government employees and helping them with redactions (nothing related to this case), it's almost always because they are using a free version of Adobe or a 3rd party PDF editor... often times because they are taking work home and working after hours on a time sensitive request.

I was telling a buddy of mine this exact thing. The fact that a pic and unredacted text referencing Donald Trump was available wasn't an accident. It was intentional that whoever did the reactions purposely left a handful of things unredacted. So 100 percent believable that "mistakes in redaction" wasnt a mistake.

Apparently it’s common. Legal teams can unredact files in cases where the redaction passwords have been lost etc. if you want it gone then you redact rescan and resave.
It's unrealistic to believe government employees, like everyone else, cut corners? They drug their feet on getting these files out and probably outsourced it to a bunch of employees who aren't normally handling redactions when the current staff got too overwhelmed.

This document, while included in the Epstein library, has been publicly available since at least 2023 archived version of CourtListener showing this document available on June 7, 2023. The .pdf file in 2023 was also vulnerable to just copy and pasting to get around the redaction.
