This is a sneak peek for my first a posteriori conlang. I've had this idea for quite a while, and have been creating this on and off while I keep getting distracted by a priori conlangs. But recently I've decided to read the "history of the people" section in the grammar book of one Polynesian language and one native South American language, and it finally convinced me to go through with this project. Your feedback is appreciated!
Im really happy of seeing the increase in polynesian conlangs.
Cool sentences!
thanks! yeah we need more non-european natlang-based conlangs in general
Heartily agree. If I manage to find the time to wrap up my g.d. slides and stop second guessing my choices, I hope to be sharing a couple Papuan and Austronesian-influenced sketches soon. Just so much interesting stuff going on in the languages of the whole Pacific area, but particularly Papua imo.
yay! an Austronesian conlang :3
That's such a cool idea!
It's nice to see words from Mapudungun being used in a conlang, I've never seen that before. Küme küdaw!
chaltu may! (i dont speak Mapudungun btw)
Very cool! I think there's nothing better demonstrate a conlang and its culture than a good creation myth. Admittedly I'm not super familiar with Polynesian languages specifically (moreso Austronesian generally), but I'm surprised to see so much synthesis. Aren't they generally quite isolating?
thank you! regarding synthesis, that's where the "south american" part comes in ;)
Ahh I see. I was just going to ask if there was any Mapuche/Mapudungan influence in here but it looks like another commenter already scoped you out on that one! Honestly what a cool idea for a conlang, I was just thinking the other day about how it would be interesting to do something with Mapudungan influence, and lo and behold someone does it. Would love to see more about the verbal template as you develop it more.
SO COOOLL this is the first thing I thought of when I heard Polynesians had contact with South Americans but I never had the drive to do anything, I can't wait to see more of this :))
