    Well that escalated quickly.

    So either

    a) He was gifted the house but nothing written down, they've had a falling out (about what I wonder) and Mum's decided it wasn't a gift after all

    or

    b) It was never a gift, and he's using the current situation to get a free house

    parent
    56 points bm2boat

Seems more that the agreement was he would apply for housing benefit so the taxpayers would make them even more money but Birmingham City Council don’t pay housing benefit to families of the claimants.

    parent root
    24 points AccousticAnomaly

No one pays housing benefits to families, if you live with your parents or it's your close relatives house then they won't give you housing benefits.

    parent root
    14 points itsapotatosalad

Some do, as long as it’s a separate home and there’s a legally compliant tenancy agreement and the relative is acting as a proper landlord.

    parent root
    4 points AccousticAnomaly

Fair play but it's a common scam so they are pretty hesitant and will do their research

    parent root
    10 points itsapotatosalad

It’s likely the parents weren’t acting as landlords, since they weren’t, so the necessary rental documents weren’t available which means the rent won’t be paid. I’ve no doubt they bought the house solely for him, I’m uncertain who was the mastermind behind the fraud but I’d be certain it’s fraud from one of them which is why the housing benefit was refused as the necessary rental documents never existed. I reckon either the son fell out with mum who cut him off so he thought he’d try some benefit fraud, or step dad pushed for the fraud and she wants to wash her hands of it now he’s out of the picture.

    parent root
    6 points Typical_Ad_210

I’m going to guess that the guy who abused the seven to twelve year olds is the one manipulating the whole situation and coming up with the housing benefit scheme, but you never do know.

    parent root
    1 points itsapotatosalad

We don’t know no, it’s why I suggested a few options. I’d imagine an active nonce would probably avoid things like small scale benefit fraud to keep potential police attention to a minimum though, especially when they’re already a millionaire.

    parent root
    5 points mynameisgill

Nowhere in the country allows housing benefit to be paid to landlord relatives.

Ok, the story takes an odd turn about half way through.

    parent

Good fucking god you weren’t kidding

Not usually like the DM to bury the lede on a paedo that far down an article

    parent root
    85 points MJLDat

Maybe they hit their quota of nonce reports for the month so they are sneaking them in this way?

    parent root

They couldn’t roll out “GAY PAEDO ASYLUM SEEKER WITH PRONOUNS” is my guess

Christ, I wasn’t expecting that. What a grim read.

    parent root

Which hardly anyone in the DM comments picks up on. Pretty much proving that it's all about the headlines.

    parent root

Yep, they’re not reading the article.

    parent root
    13 points gimmethelulz

When speaking about their plans with the prize, Mrs Doyle added: 'I'm not sure what we're going to do long term yet - we'll definitely enjoy it as a family for a bit - whatever we decide to do, it's going to change all our lives for the better - it's a true miracle.'

Magic monkey paw situation up in this story.

To be fair I don’t think the money had anything to do with the husband being a sick bastard.

It's nice that they let him out to take a compoface picture for the article though... /s

Ok, so this guy was living in a house that his mom and stepdad (who was married to his mom since he was 4 - important later) bought, similar to the houses they bought and apparently gifted to two other close family members.

Some months later, the parents try to evict on the grounds that he didn’t pay rent. Also, in October the stepdad, who likely raised this guy, was convicted for paedophilia.

I wonder if this guy turned his stepdad in for being a nonce or was a witness in the case. Therefore they’re trying to evict him into homelessness. I find it hard to believe he didn’t have problems growing up with the stepdad, but that’s just speculation. There is definitely more to this story.

    parent
    14 points WalkerTalkerChalker

    Omg you're right.

    parent root
  • 47 points acidtrippinpanda

So the compoface and lack of rent payment is honestly the least important thing about this!

    What a dumpster fire

    parent
  • 120 points Thrilalia

So let's try to make sense of this

Parents are millionaires and buy son a home
Parents want son to commit benefit fraud, but he can't

Stepfather millionaire is in jail for being a nonce
They (Mother and Step Father) want to evict son because he can't commit benefit fraud.

    Am I missing something here?

    parent
    22 points itsapotatosalad

That’s about it. Seems a bit more like mother wants to evict and step father is deliberately delaying things by insisting on being at the hearings.

    parent root
    -18 points BigMushroomCloud

The stepfather isn't the nonce in jail, the real father is

    parent root
    19 points oldbutterface

    Nope wrong

    parent root
    18 points BigMushroomCloud

    Shit. You're right

    parent root
    17 points 4imix

    It's the stepfather,

'A final hearing will be held in February - complicated by the fact that Mr Doyle is currently in prison after being convicted of child sex offences.

The retired gas fitter, 67, was jailed for six years and three months in October after committing ten sexual offences against young girls."

Presumably the real father is called "Mr Cassidy "

I'm sure Omaze is thrilled about this story.

    parent
  • 28 points jebediah1800

For a compophoto, this is a decent effort: Arms crossed, that dead-eyed stare into camera, actual house nicely looming in the background, it all tells a story. But the story is too nutso for this sub. He needs to lawyer up and get medieval on his mum: 5/10, points deducted for the nonce step-dad.

    parent
  • 28 points -auntiesloth-

So... When he was 4 years old, his mother married a nonce? Nah, mate. Take them for all you can. I can only imagine what he went through as a child living with a monster like that. No wonder he's a bit messed up now.

    parent
  • 52 points StGuthlac2025

Source: Couple who won dream £3million Omaze home are in bitter fight to evict their son from house they bought him... because he's not paying any rent

    That escalated quickly.

    Christ that’s a read and a half.

    • Bought a house for his son
    • Went to jail for fucking kids

    parent
  • 18 points pjs-1987

    And he's the parent, right?

    parent
    111 points quite_acceptable_man

Nope, he's the son. There's more to it though. They wanted him to claim Housing Benefit and then give it to his parents, which he was unable to do.

Don't feel too sorry for the parents though. They won the money, and are just getting greedy.

Oh, and the Dad is a convicted paedophile.

    parent root
    21 points Khaleesi1536

Wait, I thought the son was the paedophile?

Edit: nope, it’s the dad. My bad

    parent root
    14 points JustNoYesNoYes

Oh no, he's the son, its the StepFather presently in prison for doing some horrible things to children.

    Edit

Oh blimey, that was a more confusing read than I initially thought then.

    parent root
    34 points bzbzbzbbzbzbzbzbz

The article says that the stepfather is the one in prison for that, not the son.

    parent root
    24 points DUKITY

Not true. His mother's husband is the pedo.

Don’t worry. While the nonce is in prison someone more than likely will do society a favour…. Problem solved.

Given what he’s in prison for, I’m surprised he’s got the neck to contest it honestly.

Just to be clear, the son in the photo isn’t the one in prison, it’s the stepfather.

It’s not the best writing (what do you expect from the Mail) but the son is named Cassidy, the parents are Doyles.
