Yaaaaaasssssss! What a great drink. I don't like mezcal basically ever, but here it really fits well. Maybe mezcal + pineapple is my gateway into the spirit? It's smoky but not too smoky, balanced and bitter and tropical. Will it replace my beloved rum drinks? No way, but it for sure was fun to make and try. I'll put it on the list for the agave spirits people in my life.
Recipe from today's post with minor changes for stock and personal preference:
- 1½ oz Arette Tequila blanco
- ½ oz Del Maguey Vida mezcal
- ½ oz Campari
- ½ oz orgeat
- ½ oz fresh lime juice
- ½ oz fresh grapefruit juice
- 1 oz pineapple juice
- 4 dashes herbstura (1:1 herbsaint + angostura bitters)
Add all ingredients to a shaker and whip shake with a bit of pebble ice. Pour into a tiki mug and fill with pebble ice. Garnish with pineapple fronds, mint sprigs, a dehydrated lime wheel, and a half-naked-lady swizzle.
Christmas in the tropics!

Great mug!
Thanks, I have impeccable taste. ;-) I got it in some kind of Black Friday sale from Death & Co.
Love the Death & Co mug! How is it in person?!
It's pretty cool. The texture is fun and it's pretty right-sized for a lot of tropical drinks. Definitely good for a situation like this where I don't want something too character-oriented, etc. It's not $120 (plus shipping) cool, mind you. I just checked the receipt, looks like I got it at $102 but also with some other discount that took $25 off the bill. That's a lot easier to stomach. Keep an eye out for those sales!
Nice! Yeah- all of the Death & Co stuff is really nice but really expensive! They do have some decent sales from time to time. I picked up the Grimm reaper mug during Black Friday. I’ll keep my eye out on those to see if another deal pops up.
