Why do all transplants assume that they bring a sort of "artsy vibe" to neighborhoods? Most of the time, their "vision" is an overpriced hamburger shop with signs like "#fuckdietculture"
(But you’re right the video is tongue-in-cheek and intentionally ironic, they were trying to make a boring story about office space get more views. They clearly succeeded!)
People that don't know assume that "affordable" means cheap... It's based on a percentage of the neighborhood's median income, and even that falls into two brackets high and low. Most of these new luxury towers only use the high bracket which means people with "affordable" units are still paying like close to 3K for a tiny one bedroom... Meanwhile, that same bedroom probably costs 5K+ in that building. And it's typically less than 25% of a building. So in a rich neighborhood, the majority of the people will stay rich and most of the pricing around the buildings will be expensive. So these "broke" people you're talking about are most likely a couple made up of a teacher and a fireman.. do your research before you talk nonsense.
But will they have a plethora of 500 sq ft apartments with 2 flex walls and 4 roommates in a polycule for me to join?
Yes, but one caveat, all of them are (former) finance and crypto bros. Enjoy!
I believe that’s called a Polymarket-cule
Bring on the crypto sugar daddies!
Even better!

It’s an elevated Detroit coney place, each dog comes with a miller high life and shitty American music blasting on the speakers.
/uj im from New York but moved to Detroit after college for work, now back in the city.
God I love coney islands tho
Cause once upon a time the people who moved to New York were artists and musicians and actors. Then the culture vultures came.
I mean that's what they're called and it's what they pursue i guess

The Polycule on 34th St (2026)
A film by Zohran Mamdani.
I have it on good authority that Blackstone is going to vacate their office space to rent out to college students from Idaho.
Yes, you better watch out for Sharia Law, it's coming for you. 🤦🏾♂️
No way! That has no place in NYC.
Not a chance, midtown >> brooklyn
Rich people problems. I can never afford affordable APTs in New York
Group cult thinking of Sharia Law = engrained "white fright'"
Jizya. It’ll solve all the problems
those artists could barely afford an open loft that was run down and condemned, how cheap do you think lower Manhattan apartments will go for?
