I’ve had issues where my computer lockdown browser crashes randomly. I emailed my teacher and he refuses to believe me, I have to pass this exam in order to graduate. He told me to email the IT desk for help. The exam will be posted tomorrow morning. IT closed an hour ago and I move out Friday at 12. If neither get back to me I’m fucked. This exam can’t crash while I’m taking it. It’s 3 hours long. How do I fix this
Try a power wash? Extensions automatically get reinstalled.
I’ve tried reinstalling. Restarting
But have you tried a powerwash?
Is there a testing center on your campus? It's pretty common for colleges to have a dedicated office/lab where students can take online exams. The computer will be locked down, there may be a staff member hanging out making sure nobody's obviously cheating. If you're not sure, start making calls when campus offices start opening. The library would almost certainly have a staff member who knows if you can't find the info in an obvious place.
I’ve looked no computer has cameras for the browser
Have you talked to a live human in the testing center or other relevant resources that your campus has to see if there are options available to you? IDK where you're going to school at, but the college I worked at sort of had two options for online exams. You either take it on campus on a school computer with a staff member proctoring (which is what I'm hoping your college has available), or you take it at home with all the extra monitoring stuff.
Yes I’ve talked to the tutoring center and they can Procter the exam but he doesn’t want to do that
Tell them they have to procter the exam because your computer is broken and IT has been unable to fix it. If the tutoring center refuses, escalate straight to the Dean’s Office. Don’t ask them whether they want to or not, tell them you require their proctoring service.
The guy live in another state
Escalate now.
That was his choice. You're a student at the college you're a student of, at the campus you attend. He chose to offer a course section at your college while he lives elsewhere. That's always going to have a risk of complications that he needs to know how to manage, since he's their employee.
While there's a chance that you could be SOL if you can't find a computer with a webcam to borrow, check your syllabus for the section regarding exams and escalate if necessary. Having the exam proctored in a testing center shouldn't be seen as a big deal. It's not like he has to come do it himself unless your school has really strange/outdated policies.
Do they rent out laptops at like the library?
I would camp out right outside the IT department before they open next. Make sure your issue is documented by them, with copies of said documentation given to both yourself and your instructor. Your academic life is on the line so you have to do everything you can here to cover your own ass, since apparently your instructor is not willing slash able to cover it for you..
I wish you very heartfelt luck!
lockdown browser heavily uses ram which chromebooks can really struggle with :(
I don't have an answer for you as it may be a hardware limitation there. It works until it doesn't and then it would just crash the laptop entirely :(
Are you using WiFi or are you plugged in? Wi-Fi is notorious for dropping during long runs.
Other than that, will the instructor let you take it in front of them? Or, maybe a TA or even an RA?
Wiping the chromebook entirely sometimes helps with that.
borrow another student's chromebook?
borrow another chromebook maybe.
I am not sure how power washing is different from a usb recovery but I work in a school and I prefer using a usb recovery. I have it premade for all the models I support and it does not take that long.
I feel it gives the best chance to make it work right.
Nope
I’m thinking it is a ram issue
