Years ago I posted about a friends sister having her 5th child. She was temporarily housed at her sister’s after the church kicked her out. But after her and her husband shamed her sister for being lesbian (in the home she was providing them!) they got kicked out. Then they luckily got into government housing. I say luckily because as horrible as they are her children deserve a home.
Since my last post they had twins, a single child, and are pregnant again. Due any day.
Since after Covid and everything the parents have become hyper MAGA. So the family has become more involved. Not because they want to but because they care about the children. None of this is their fault. I can’t believe one couple in poverty can have 9 children. The church initially supported them and fed them the philosophy of not using birth control. When they started having too many children they abandoned them.
They still say Jesus will provide despite it being government programs that have kept them going all this time.
My CF portion in this is that despite all of this, my friend’s mom keeps asking when I’m going to have children! Mam. Don’t you have enough children in this world to worry about?

Yup, same here in Canada. Always tons of entitled people saying "wE lIvE iN a SoCiEtY!!" as they gobble down loads and loads of government assistance, while they took over 100K off my salary last year to help pay for it all and all I get for it is to be told I still should pay more. MIL is the worst offender, she just doesn't work and scams the system while saying it's only fair I get soaked by the government because I have a high-paying position and I "need to think of those who are less fortunate".

Similar here in the UK - there are so many families where government benefits are propping them up. You need to earn over 50k to be a net contributor of taxes, but only 18% of the country earn that amount. Millions of people are earning the bare minimum on part-time hours, if they work at all. Some people are long term sick but there's no treatment plan from the NHS aimed at getting them back to work.
The far left really don't give a shit about how much debt the country is in, with their "eat the rich" bullshit fantasies. Our left-leaning current government know there's no money left but they'll be kicked out on their arse if they do anything about it. We're utterly fucked.
I think the far-left don't quite realize that if they push the issue far enough along, "the rich" will simply pick up and leave altogether -- so now instead of getting a greater percentage of their income/wealth than they were before, now they get a big fat 0%. I happen to be able to live anywhere in the world and still work my job in Canada. I haven't generally thought about leaving, but lately, the notion has crossed my mind more than once, particularly since I've worked with a few guys who have moved full-time to the Bahamas/Caymans/Mexico/etc and happily report that even though they make 60% more than I do, they paid about a quarter of the tax I did last year, and they have enormous seaside properties for 20% of what I paid for my 800sqft box in the sky in a climate that is dogshit half the year. So go ahead Canada, push the issue, tax me even more, see what happens, I will fuckin' leave!

Same. I am a mother (not sure if my youngest wants kids or not so I’m here) and was raised Catholic. Religion has no part in politics. If they want a say, then need to give up their tax free status.
Heartbreaking for the children to grow up in poverty and to have to deal with parentification in such a large family. I remember families like this when I was growing up in a southern Baptist church. Many of their kids went off the rails once they became adults.
