Congratulations! I hope this does not sound rude but I as a 20 year old cis woman have often thought of faking being trans so I could get hysterectomy or my tubes tied. I know faking it is almost impossible but it's just a thought. In my opinion it is fucked up that in my country (Finland) trans people can get these operations so young but I have to wait until I'm 30 or have three kids (which will never happen).
I don’t take offense to it, I also think it’s crazy women have to wait so long. I wish doctors let people make their own choices regarding their bodies.
Not sure if this is a concern, but I’m certain trans people wouldn’t mind if you had to fake it to get the medical treatment you deserve. I hope it works out for you 💖
It would be pretty difficult. At least in the US, most places require you to have been on testosterone a certain amount of time (some 6 months, some 1 year), some even require you to have gotten top surgery. You would have to find a very specific surgeon
Do they check your levels? You could always get a Testosterone prescription and then toss it out, but claim you’re taking it. Maybe refuse bloodwork? Although they may not agree to the surgery without the bloodwork. I wonder if they will give the surgery for non-binary people? I guess you could claim non-binary who isn’t interested in physical transition.
This is actually one of my main specialties (psychologist). So, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care (SOC) version 8 actually does not state that any form of chemical or surgical transition is required in order to have a hysterectomy. However, individual medical institutions often don't follow this most current version, which is based around bodily autonomy. Though the SOC are meant to be the most restrictive standards in order to provide care, it is still up to the medical institution and/or the individual physicians and surgeons to either follow them or be more restrictive. All that to say the WPATH SOC version 8 doesn't have a requirement for other forms of physical transition prior to hysterectomy, but many surgeons will still have that requirement. When I write a letter for someone, I always give them a copy of the SOC and state that in the letter.
Such a weird mix of progressive and regressive. Women don’t get to decide to get sterilized, unless they’re trans. I mean, trans rights are good, but let cis women do it too!
That's interesting because the doctors that I talked to basically told me that I couldn't have a whole hysterectomy, only a tubal, because a hysterectomy could make my hormones progress differently and affect my long-term health extremely negatively. I wonder which one is wrong here...because I would freaking love a hysterectomy.
If you keep your ovaries and just remove the uterus, cervix, and fallopian tubes, the your hormones won’t be affected. Maybe your dr was referring to a radical hysterectomy?
Had my hysto done in January (had to ask for a decade and endure all the usual bullshit, but got it done) and they left my ovaries in. No hormone issues or adverse effects.
Just had a total hysterectomy with bisalp 2 days ago, and left the ovaries. There will be minor changes (like a week or 2 of menopause symptoms) but back to normal until I hit actual menopause in a few years. Mine was medically necessary for fibroids.
Ahh I kinda forgot about the menopause things. Since I’ve been on testosterone, I already had most of those symptoms when I started T, so I don’t really get them (or minimally get them) after getting the ovaries out
If you are already on T and plan to keep taking it, that's sufficient HRT to reduce the risk of osteoporosis. In fact, the risk is higher in trans women on estrogen. I had the same full procedure done, my doctor agreed and I'm close to 7 years out without any problems
No problem! I just always like to include this cause I've seen people who aren't knowledgeable about trans use this point as way to try and talk trans men out of getting their ovaries taken out even though it's different when you're already on HRT vs a cis woman who still needs those hormones in their body (and if you've had a similar experience to me you know that for some of us, getting the whole system out was crucial to relieving gender dysphoria)
Oooh here's hoping I can get that too. I have an appointment at a gender clinic about a double mastectomy, so I'm going to ask about a hysterectomy too
Congratulations!!!! I got mine done ~6 weeks ago at 22 and it was the best decision EVER! I feel so liberated and like myself now!! I’m so happy that you got the hysterectomy at 18!! Enjoy your freedom and rest up!!🥰
Just curious, How have you been feeling since the surgery? I’m just wondering cause I’m probably gonna need a hysterectomy soon and I’ve been reading so many horror stories about the recovery process and complications afterwards.
I feel great! I’m like a week out and feel no pain, haven’t taken pain meds in like 3-4 days. I’m up and moving around all fine, I just can’t lift over 10 pounds or bend over yet from doctors orders. I was expecting it to be way worse cause I heard some crazy stories, but I feel perfectly fine, maybe a little tired
MTF here, congrats! It must be so awesome in so many ways to have that done with.
I had them yeet my balls at 36, I wish I could have had them removed at 18 instead of double that lol. But still, massive relief of dysphoria and boosted euphoria lasting all the way to today. It was so much more impactful than I thought it would be.
Good for you! You’re an adult who’s parents can no longer tell them what to do & no need to let the gov put its opinion on your reproductive rights 🤙🏽😌🥰
I think that would help me with it too. I do get dysphoric especially on my periods! Also thank you for telling me! I hope you'll have a nice day/night and also hope you have a Happy Holiday!✨

absolutely crazy. But we have loud conservatives in our government that make any improvement impossible.
Gotta love the government policing our bodies 🤪

Congratutions How did you get the doctors to agree to that?
I have a gender dysphoria diagnosis so it falls under gender affirming surgeries. Got it covered by insurance too

Okay I see, that makes sense. I may look into it.

Yea that’s what I was told! But there’s still a risk, just much less than a woman
No problem! Yea totally!
