I love that place, but it feels like every time I go it’s opening night for their restaurant. They barely function as a restaurant it seems and the servers are always in the weeds and takes like an hour to even place an order. The food and atmosphere is great but we joke that when we want to go there we will show up kind of full from lunch so that by the time we get our food we are hungry.
I always have a good experience at Tryzub. It's not super fancy, but the varenyky are good and the service is excellent. Don't miss the Carpathian mushroom soup. And I personally love the "Wheel of Fun." (Infused spirits. Delish.)
Haven’t tried their pierogis but Genes Sausage Shop potato pancakes are amazing. In the summer they used to grill them on the top deck of the shop and that was S Tier.
Can vouch for the pierogi at Gene’s. They have a good variety in the freezer section. Just fired up some of the spinach pierogi with a couple pork tenderloin the other night and they were excellent.
Bad news, the Red Apple near Milwaukee and Pulaski got gentrified out a few years ago and the Niles location is the only one left. https://restaurantredapple.com/
Staropolska is still there, long live Staropolska!
Staropolska has a good potato pancake for sure, and in general everything there is delicious.

Pierogi kitchen in wicker park really blew me away with all their food
I believe they own Wurst Behavior in Irving Park too, which is also great and serves pierogis + potato pancakes!
One of my favorites!
THIS IS THE ONE

Sawa's is amazing
Every day I’m glad that place is still there. I showed people in every other city I’ve lived in the neon lighting.
In Broadview? Been there a million times, lol. They decor hasn’t changed in 30 years, something out of Goodfellas
It has the best vibe lol
If looking for nice Eastern European restaurant, Anelya is great. First Ukrainian restaurant in the world to be included in Michelin guide

Tryzub and Anelya are both spectacular for this!
Smakosz is wonderful. Also, their soups are delicious. I’m still dreaming about all of them!
Caesar's Pierogi in Portage Park. Owner is eccentric af but the pierogi come in a lot of different varieties & they all slap
Tatas in Elk Grove
I’m a huge fan of the potato pancakes at the Ol Warsaw in Broadview.
Red Apple, Milwaukee & Pulaski check their hours though.

There's no Red Apple at Milwaukee and Pulaski. There used to be one near Milwaukee and Belmont but that one has been closed for years.

That's nowhere near Milwaukee and Pulaski. That's almost in Niles.
Lol nowhere near Pulaski
