Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this but am I missing something? The guy resigned before I could attempt the mate but I wanted to analyze it to make sure smothered mate was possible. It seems to me this is mate in 2 and the chess.com eval is just broken somehow. Am I missing something?

I analyzed the image and this is what I see. Open an appropriate link below and explore the position yourself or with the engine:
My solution:
Save the position:

Why does the move have 30. Ne3?
Reset the counter!
It looks like you have posted a position that leads to a Smothered Mate.

Nd6 to get the Queen is the first thing I see.
Oh , I think your move is right for a smothered mate after sacrificing the Queen.
Obviously Nh6+ is the best move

Silly analyzer probably wanted you to do Nd6+ or Nd8+ to win the queen instead.
Thank you. Yes, it says the best move is Nd6+.
I’m still not clear why the engine prefers winning queen over mate in 2?? Is this really an engine issue?
Me thinks photoshop had a hand in this.
not, it's just a buggy app
this is fake, the move ledger at the bottom shows that after this black moved its knight to g4, which couldnt have happened because it already has a knight there. idk if this is photoshop or just someone fucking around in an explorer, but i am almost certain that this isnt a real position
It's not fake, its just me looking at different moves in analysis. He blundered a knight the move before and I played a different move for it to see if it would have mattered. Doesn't change the part where the analysis missed mate.
Engine depth.
it's literally 3 moves

After Kh8, cant you force smothered mate with:
Qg8+, Rxg8, Nf7#?
Yes
The rook being there is literally the reason why Qg8 is smothered mate. The only thing the rook prevents is a non-smothered mate.
Sweet summer child. This is the oft imitated smother mate pattern. Learn it.
