At this point, fewer than 1/10 posts on here fit the theme of the sub.
Cats are liquid— they fill small spaces seamlessly.
A cat on the floor is not liquid.
Oh fuck off with that cringey dumb ass shit. Puns are great, most people like them. Pretending to be weird virgin police nerds going around reddit doing the exact same copy and paste joke every time you see a pun is one of the most sad and pathetic things imaginable.
Let people enjoy things, let them find things funny. Nobody cares about you. Go have sex with someone so you can stop being a sad virgin.
Geez a harsh comment 2 years after the comment? I enjoyed the “pun patrol will hear about this” comment. And it was clearly said in good humor. Who is the sad virgin after all?
Yes! I’m not active here, I just subbed to see cats doing ridiculous things and fitting into places they shouldn’t be, but a cat in the sink? That’s not special, I’ve known so many cats who enjoy sitting in the sink or tub? That’s just what cats do.
Yeah, that’s probably true... I just know half the time I’m using my phone the auto correct fucks up contractions and I’m like that’s not what I’m trying to say.
this same thing can be (and regularly is) posted to all other subs, especially the ones that have grown larger "recently". They all have the same problem where only a small fraction of posts actually fit the sub.
It's not gonna stop though, it's only gonna get worse.
These META posts aren't helping... and they're both pretty much the same in a sense that they both don't belong here and the percentage of "actual" posts grows even smaller.
I realize though that these also aren't gonna stop :)
Maybe when we get a good enough AI to filter all the posts automatically. We could then all post to /r/all_of_reddit or something and create artificial "subreddits" at our whim, say "only pictures of cats high up in a tree".. and then have the AI filter only those kinds of posts out of all of reddit, for me only.
If the community will also help me. I understand there are a lot of cat lovers here but we would like to keep this community true to its origin.
There is already r/catsinsinks and r/awww and r/catpics and many more. Just saying "I spilled liquid" or "he melted" is NOT an okay way to post to this sub.
Please report what isn’t a liquid cat! This is a big community to moderate
Hey I just wanted to say as the person that made the original post bitching about this that the mod team has actually done a good job turning this place back around, nice work.
If it looks like the majority of people are agreeing in this thread, then why don't we all just collectively downvote the posts we don't like or that don't fit? Wouldn't that fix it?
Probably. The problem is that doesn't happen. Nobody wants to go through the effort of downvoting every single post that comes up if it doesn't exactly fit. Sometimes people might just want to see cat pics and not realize which sub the came from or might just like the pic enough to give it an upvote without thinking about it.
There's also the problem of following multiple cat subs. A lot of ppl follow multiple cat subs so when they see a cat they might just think "aw cute - upvote". But yeah if ppl do take notice, they should also report in addition to downvoting so mods can take the post down
Because that’s kind of the mods’ job. Bad content gets downvoted or at least not upvotes enough to be seen, but inappropriate or irrelevant content to the sub should just be removed by the mods.
Because the comment uses are a very small number of overall users, most people just scroll through upvoting stuff from the home page without knowing what sub stuff is in
Because commenters are super rare. The vast majority of reddit users don't have an account, and just look at posts, they don't enter the comment section at all. A far smaller group are reddit users who have an account, and maybe upvote and downvoted stuff, but they never enter the comments section. An even smaller group than that actually both have reddit accounts and make comments in comments sections. It's like 1% of all reddit users who actually go into the comments section and make comments.
So the vast majority of reddit users will upvote completely irrelevant unsuitable posts on subs like this and don't care about whether the posts are suitable or not. That's why the tiny fraction of reddit users who comment in the comments section need to report posts that don't fit the sub, so that the mods can delete them. You have to be ever vigilant. Report any posts you see which don't fit the sub. The mods can't do it all by themselves.
This so much. Most of the pictures here are just random snaps of a cat loafing around on a bed. There needs to be some sort of moderation to keep the pictures relevant because so many posts are basically spam.
yeah. /r/noodlebones exist for this reason. It's not an excuse to post a pic of your cat laying on your lap saying 'oh no my cat spilled on my lap' because it is not. it is just a random cat pic.
It would help if people downvoted the solids instead of upvoting just because they’re cute. /r/catfruit has the same problem - people post a cute cat, put the word catfruit in the title, but it’s not a fucking catfruit and it’s annoying as hell. But because it’s cute people still upvote it. Downvote pics that don’t qualify, or moderate more actively, or BOTH.
This anarchy WILL NOT STAND. We must do what is right to maintain the purity and fluidity of liquid cats.
Honestly, as a new person to reddit, thank you for clarifying this! I first found this sub from seeing a few posts with this as their source, and I thought they were great. However browsing here made me confused if it was genuinely a liquid joke, a normal cat sub, or properly for cats in weird liquid-looking positions and places. I'll be looking even more forward to seeing posts from here, now that I genuinely know what this sub is for!
I browse r/all and came across this post and started browsing through it and it’s such a sad state this sub is in. It’s full of people who didn’t make it on cats or aww. Sad times.
there are still post of cats just laying down on someone "melting" showing up on the front page of this sub. the rules for the sub have yet to be changed. If y'all could just update the rules and start removing "melting" post that would help.
Eh, I was just tired of seeing the same old cat posts over and over again and don't really care about my karma count. If people don't like my stuff than they don't like it. Whatever, don't really care either way. I'm not here for self validation most of the time.
It's up to mods of subs to remove things. Users post and upvote everything. Without mods removing things that don't fit a sub theme it gets upvoted because people never seem to care or even notice the sub stuff is posted to.
I think this problem starts when a small, specific sub like this gets “featured” by a larger one. Then a big influx of new subscribers comes in and either doesn’t really understand it or just tries too hard to contribute.
I’m pretty sure that’s how I found this sub and almost immediately the content went sideways.
Hmm. Pictures of cats in weird positions you say. Yet a lot of those pictures are getting spammed with comments saying “not liquid!”
Sometime this devolves into a comment war and people get nasty. The mods need to do a better job of defining what makes a cat liquid.
I’m on mobile and in the ‘About’ section of the sub it says:
Cat is not liquid
NSFW not allowed
Repost
Way to go! That clears it up. Not!
Edit: meanwhile the header of the sub shows 2 dripping cats. Yet similar pictures have liquid kitty gatekeepers arguing away about the liquidity of similar posts.
Thank you! Like many others, I'm in full agreement.
It's funny, I know what doesn't fit in this sub, because we see so much of it. It's harder to know whatdoes for on this sub. What was the original intent/scope? I don't think I've seen more than a handful of examples which make me think, "yeah that cat really is liquid", but it's been so long and they're so few and far between that I can't picture any in my head
Are there any examples folks can link so the rest of us have a better idea? (The sub "rules" don't help). Hopefully we can then collectively work too down vote content that definitely doesn't belong.
Blame the mods that think high voted posts that don't belong are more important than quality control. So many subs go to shit because mods let them become of topic karma farms.
Just because something is upvoted doesn't mean it belongs.
This may be an UPO, but I feel like just a cat in a bowl or box isn't fitting of this subreddit. It's pretty normal for a cat to be in a box of bowl and post the ones I see aren't really .. liquids they are just curled up in them.
Hello there :) I hope I'm not contravening any rules by posting here. I posted a picture of my cat which then got removed but I'm not sure what i did wrong or why it breached the subreddit's rules. Could one of the moderators please let me know so I can avoid in future? Many thanks.
Appealing to peoples better nature without an actual deterrent rarely works in the long term. Just remove the posts and ban the users. It's not rocket science, just shoddy moderation.
THANK YOU! I've been downvoting and reporting every post like that for months now but it seems like the mods of this Subreddit just don't exist. I'm glad someone besides me seems to be annoyed by it and wants something to be done about it
There's a lot of cat subreddits, though. I come here specifically for a certain flabvor of cat picture. idk man I love milk, I love soda, but if you drink a mouthful of milk that you thought was soda you're gonna spit it out and gag.
Hear, hear!
The only thing liquid about most of the posts here is that there’s a flood of them, which doesn’t count.
Well put
I am moderating now and I hope you all will come back and be happy with the culling of non liquid content

Though admittedly a cat in a sink is more fitting than one just sitting on the ground.
Thanks for the sub

Ty mod
Thank you! I wanted to post something like this last night but I wasn't sure meta posts were allowed. It's incredibly frustrating
I'm pretty much done with this sub, so getting banned or getting my post removed was not a huge concern.
Was NOT* I’m guessing you forgot the not.
Whoops my bad lol
Ha, so it was a mistake and not sarcasm! Was it auto correct or brain fart?? lol
Idk, probably both. Often times my keyboard randomly changes my cursor position and I don't notice or autocorrect deletes the word I just typed.
I also struggle at times.
I’m guessing he was being sarcastic
Yeah, that’s probably true... I just know half the time I’m using my phone the auto correct fucks up contractions and I’m like that’s not what I’m trying to say.
I guessed wrong, my bad
No worries ha!
Happy Cake day!
danke!
I'm not even sure how active the mods are. Maybe that's why so much of that stuff is staying up

I second this. Instant post removal and ban! Ok maybe just post removal for the first offense.
If the community will also help me. I understand there are a lot of cat lovers here but we would like to keep this community true to its origin.

Hey I just wanted to say as the person that made the original post bitching about this that the mod team has actually done a good job turning this place back around, nice work.
Literally such a full time job that I got overwhelmed and stopped for a whole, thank god it's a team
I was looking for more places to look at cat pictures. So thank you
can someone make one of these for r/AccidentalRenaissance
You mean /r/pics2?
Edit: didn’t expect that to link to work.
/r/DeliberateBaroque
I can literally repost this to that sub, will that work?
Edit: I just visited this sub. It would not work. Nothing would work.
it’s not 100% spot on all the time and reposts happen, but r/TIGHTPUSSY is usually good for lil kitties in actual tight spots
Risky click of the day. Thank you!
Two more safe for work cat subs:
r/girlsWithHugePussies
r/pocketpussy
I’m dead! I’ll tell my husband I’m looking at girls with huge pussies.
Whoop! Just added pocketpussy to my collection!
Those two subs have a new subscriber! Thank you!
i realized after i posted people might think it’s nsfw lmao. i PROMISE on my life it’s all sfw cats
Well what if you’re really a cat and you have 8 more lives to spare?
Can we REALLY trust you then huh?
dear god, you’ve caught me
What if someone posted a pic of a pussy in a really tight place? Like... a tight pussy?
Yeah I found this sub down a Reddit rabbit hole, enjoyed a few posts, and now I get a flood of random cat pics on my front page
This is what happens when a sub goes big, quality of posts is reduced drastically.
Also weak moderation not keeping the submissions to the sub's theme.
I am moderating now and I hope you all will come back and be happy with the culling of non liquid content
Based mod. This sub will finally be great again!
I am moderating now and I hope you all will come back and be happy with the culling of non liquid content
Yeah, same deal here. I'm just about done with this sub tbh, if I wanted generic cat picks I would have followed one of the other 50 subs.
I am moderating now and I hope you all will come back and be happy with the culling of non liquid content
And this is a problem?
Sticky this post plz

Totally agree
Because that’s kind of the mods’ job. Bad content gets downvoted or at least not upvotes enough to be seen, but inappropriate or irrelevant content to the sub should just be removed by the mods.
That's fair. I don't know a whole lot about how Reddit actually works so thank you
Because the comment uses are a very small number of overall users, most people just scroll through upvoting stuff from the home page without knowing what sub stuff is in
That makes sense, thank you

My God, you weren't kidding. The sub is full of "spilled" cats. News flash: THAT'S JUST A FUCKING CAT!!!
I encourage everyone to liberally use the report button. There's even a sub rule: "cat is not liquid."
calm down babes

Ugh, THANK YOU.
Can you make one of these for all the cat subs? They've all become so bad.
I’m sure there is something over in /r/catsubs that better fits your posts.
Give it a week most, people will start posting the same shit again.
Yeah, that's why I unsubbed. It's also why we need active mods to actually moderate the sub, but that's not what happens here apparently.
How do you feel about the sub now? It's much much better than it used to be back when you made this whole meta post.
I’m moderating now! I hope you’ll come back
Cats mirin has gotten really bad about it. Although, if more people used the report button, the mods might take more action.
This drives me nuts. Many of the cat subs have gotten to be ridiculous.
It would help if people downvoted the solids instead of upvoting just because they’re cute. /r/catfruit has the same problem - people post a cute cat, put the word catfruit in the title, but it’s not a fucking catfruit and it’s annoying as hell. Only brutal, merciless moderation will rescue a sub from the mindless upvoters.
I browse r/all and came across this post and started browsing through it and it’s such a sad state this sub is in. It’s full of people who didn’t make it on cats or aww. Sad times.

I was going to post something similar but thought I would get flamed XD Glad to see so many people agreeing with this!!!

Some one had to say and I’m happy they did
What’s rlly annoying is a lot of ppl r going to see this post and agree when they’re the ones you’re talking about
Maybe you guys are doing a great job of up voting proper liquidfied cats... Cuz my feed only shows what I'd expect
(sorry for the new squad, that gatekeep our enjoyment) :)
Well that's not fair, I only get the ones with a few upvotes that are "my cat spilled all over my [insert object]"
If ur on andriod try "sync" for reddit, works wonders and I get no reddit ads
I didn't know Reddit notifications could be ads, I only get "trending" and "popular" notifications along with comment replies
On the official reddit app I've gotten ads that look like straight up posts... So yea
Damn, that sucks

I'm new here and understand the annoyance, but just the line "stop posting normal pictures of cats" is hilarious in multiple dimensions 😎
Yes!!! This!!!
50 Others? More Like 19630167 others
And stop posting pictures of your cat in the sink. Every single cat do this. Its not special and there are way too many posts about that.
Imagine a subreddit that has strayed from its god given intent
THANK YOU! Finally someone said it. I thought I was the only one thinking this😅
Yeah I’m unsubbing too.
I have seen way too many cat dripping/cat spills that have gotten way too many upvotes, what are the mods even doing?
To be fair, I could see how they would... "Spillover" 😎
This makes me happy.
The intent of the sub is for photos or videos/gifs of cats fitting into places or objects that they shouldn't be able to. Think of this http://img0.joyreactor.com/pics/post/webm/gif-cats-escape-4590690.webm or if you've ever seen a video of a cat squishing themselves to fit under the crack of a door. There are some good examples in this sub, but they're rare https://www.reddit.com/r/catsareliquid/comments/dh9w9v/now_im_convinced_that_cats_are_liquid/
Gotcha! Thanks for the links. This will help

Technically cats are gasses because they can compress. Either way they are a fluid

Just because something is upvoted doesn't mean it belongs.
Preach!
so many subs need a post like this
Brilliant - found this sub yesterday. Thought the same within 1 minute
I feel like so many of these misplaced posts (of cats just sorta laying funny) would be better over in r/whatswrongwithyourcat
You cannot win this. People ruined r/catloaf and I’m still mad about it. I am positive it is the same people trying to homogenize all cat content.
time to build a dam

well that's fine because my cats licking its ass
Yeah, alot of these need to go to r/noodlebones instead
I will die on this hill

man. people really take their cat subs seriously.
Honestly it's just kinda annoying seeing this sub so poorly moderated. Like I wanted funny cat stuff when I subbed here, not really generic cat pics.
Who gives a shit?
Clearly a lot of people apparently based on the upvotes on this post.

What about cats hanging out in places where liquid normally would be, like a sink. My cat hangs out in the sink all the time.
Nah. Common. Now if your cat is inside a beer mug, that’s different.
Cats are liquid. Fact! End of discussion.
I disagree. Post all cat pics. All cats are great. Thanks!
Awesome
Love this post! 😍 The fluidity of these cats is mesmerizing. 💕 Keep 'em coming! 😻
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍 lol this is amzing👏👏👏👏🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭😭
This also is not a picture of a cat being a liquid. Just saying
First post today right under this pinned post is a normal video of a normal cat. I'd say some are just ignoring this
