My poor baldy baby; by the time the hair grows back it’s time for the next shave lol

  • Why does she need this? :(

She’s got irritable bowel disease and we started her on meds so they wanna make sure the meds are working, hopefully won’t need too many more once we’ve tapered her med down to a good maintenance dose!

My baby does too! Shes been doing well for about a year now hopefully the same happens for you

Aw yay happy for you and your baby!!!

My cat does too! What regiment do you have your cat on? Mine basically has to take steroids every fee days and would love an alternative!

Mine is still only 6 months post diagnosis; we needed to insert a feeding tube to start her on a hydrolyzed protein diet, and then once we were successful we were able to remove the tube, now she’s on the restricted hydrolyzed protein diet plus the steroid tablets every other day, I’m hoping we can wean her off the tablet just enough and then start introducing select proteins! What does your cat eat?

Prescription Royal Canin Select Protein Pea and Duck both wet and dry. We went through the chicken and rabbit and has been doing well with this one. Unfortunately, there are two other cats and a dog whose food my IBD guy always goes after! We were going back to the vet all the time until we just decided he should take the steroid long term. We were every other day, but now we are every 3rd day.

I have never heard of them having to be on a tube though. Seems quite extreme. I would have been a wreck! He got one ct scan but that was it! They said if we couldn’t get the diarrhea under control we’d have to do a biopsy. We did not go that route.

Feel bad for the buggers, they just wanna eat anything in sight (steroids not helping lol)

Yeah it definitely felt so scary at first but honestly once she got the tube, she was the least bothered by it LOL it just looked distressing but honestly wasn’t as invasive as I thought it’d be and it worked like a charm to get her on the special food!!

And amen to that, it’s so tough with multiple pets, she’s always trying to steal my other cats food so we gotta do supervised feedings haha, poor thing thinks about nothing but food all day 😭😭

My kitty is on steroids for IBD too and he’s doing very well. He is on budesonide every other day, apparently it mostly acts locally, so it reduces side effects. He occasionally throws up after eating too fast, otherwise his tummy issues are soooo much better.

He only eats Royal Canin Anallergic dry food and one of the pure novelty proteins (mostly rabbit, horse and duck, he does not like kangaroo, lamb or game).

I think I will keep him on it for life, I don’t want him to have horrible flares :(

Ohhhhh that’s interesting! I wonder what the diff between prednisolone (what my guy takes) and the budesonide is. I wonder if that would be an option if it’s better.

We went through the rabbit but we were having trouble with it being in stock, so ended on the duck which has been more reliable. I have not seen the other ones offered here (I’m in the US, not sure if that is a factor)

The difference is apparently just that budesonide is more targeted and acts locally. It is also less potent, used for younger cats and cats with milder cases!

Some vets argue thar budesonide isn’t as effective for IBD for kitties, but I think it’s a lot of trial and error to find what works.

Since my little guy is 5 years old and doesn’t have a severe case, we opted for that! I would totally be okay with doing prednisolone if budesonide stopped being effective (I expect his condition to worsen with age anyway).

Also! Kitties with IBD apparently do good on prednisolone!! Apparently dose is low enough to not cause many systemic issues. My childhood kitty had cancer and was put on a HIGH dose of it for 5 years and only when she was 14yo, she developed kitty diabetes. Both the vet back then and my current vet calmed me down about the steroid scare. It’s a great drug for IBD kitties.

Hey if duck works good for your kitty, it’s all good imo! Just gotta find out what doesn’t inflame their tract.

Sorry for the long reply, I am very into the IBD in kitties research, because I’ve had 3 cats with various stages and symptoms.

Wow what a great and thorough reply. I really appreciate it.

There is a lot of worry about how it will affect him down the road, but your explanation made me feel better! Thank you!

We do a monthly steriod injection now. Its better than forcing a pill down her throat and she also gets b12 with it

Ohhhhhh that’s interesting! My cat is actually really good with the pills. He gets some dry food after so he’s grown to enjoy it!

Haha my lil bub will only take a pill for so long so its been a challenge. We started with a shot every 3 months now we are at every month. She is also 16 so her age is a factor

    Awwwwwwwww what a sweetie

Omg! I didnt know injection was an option; is it a prednisalone injection?? My kitty’s biggest and most consistent symptom has been pickiness and she used to love the pill pockets but I think got tired of them, now we dissolve them in her wet food but she eats that with attitude too haha

My vet does methelpredinose and b12 (unsure if its the same as a predinose pill!) my kitty has low b12 from the steroid so we fix that now too! Def ask if its an option!!!

Hey I’m going through the same thing with my kitty! I love giving her shaved belly kisses 💕

im sure she will feel every belly rub to the fullest!

  • Have you found her belly button?

I can’t reply with a picture for some reason but there’s an extra bald spot in the middle of her tummy that I think might be her belly button? 😂

It's right at the top of the spay scar. I can see it in the picture you posted

Ima need you to circle it and post it here

  • Aww stay warm poor precious baby 😻❤️

  • Want. To. Touch. Soft. Kitteh. Belleh! Rubrubrubrub rub

  • Is she doing the Thriller dance in this pic, or is it just me? 😅 Sweet baby! Hope her tums feels better soon!

    I can’t unsee this!

    Ha ha

  • My cat had to get nakey for a scan once, and I'd always pet her while saying, "nakey nakey nakey!" Lol, she was always so pissed at me for it. She wouldn't glare if I just pet her there.

Hehe I do the same but with “baldy baby baldy baby” 😭😭😭😭

  • Does she allow rubs? Or bad idea?

She allows them!!!! I’ll give her extras from all the commenters 😁😁

  • I’m so curious about this. My cat has IBD and nothing really helps her. Steroids work a little but not great. She’s had 2 ultrasounds and both were $900, how are you doing this every 3 months?

Pet insurance 💀💀 pretty sure I got up to $40k spent last year and I get 90% reimbursed.. was definitely tough because I still have to pay with my credit card at each visit but then I usually get reimbursed within 2-3 weeks so i use that to pay the bill back.

By the way if you’re on Facebook, I follow a page called “Cats with IBD”, they’re super helpful and maybe might have some more suggestions for you if steroids aren’t working! Things such as alternative medication, supplements, diets, etc.

  • Please rub her belly. My tabby won’t let me 😩

  • I want to shower this cat with love and treats.
