• Wow, EQ on the walkman + external EQ. You're really boosting those low frequencies double time!

  • Dang! That’s friggen sweet! You are going to be ballin’ out in the streets. lol

  • Because a three-band EQ is not enough.

    Never enough, need full power

  • I love "odd" stuff like that, there used to be a ton of stuff like that on the market back in the day and it's always cool when they pop up now. You gotta love the hilarious "almost name brand" Technisonic. The market used to be flooded with cheap off-brand stuff with names like Paonasonic or Sankyo.

sankyo's a good one haha! i frequently see their cheapo walkman knockoffs at the flea market. wonder if any of them work?

I've picked up a couple super cheap units like that, they are made so simply (cheaply) they can usually be fixed, unfortunately they usually sound terrible.

  • I didn’t know those EQ units existed, just looking at the original Sony one that copies. Also isn’t it quite unusual for Walkmans not to have model number printed on the front graphics?

    It’s a WM-F18, model printed on top

Oh thanks, yes I knew. Just saying I think most are named on front . I wonder how many others aren’t . Minor stuff like that interests me.

  • What does an equalizer do

Assuming you are being sincere..... ELI5 - It boosts only specific tones in the music. So if you want to hear more of the bass, or more of the vocals, you can highlight those parts. It's usually just an added dimension for music enjoyment. Sometimes it is necessary to correct for errors in the recording or listening equipment.

I was being sincere so thank you for the explanation!

  • I love the insane over-engineering of something simple. That's seriously hilarious. However, I do think the fact that your walkman already had a built in EQ, which is rare in itself, coupled with an external EQ, borders on redundant. Would definitely pair it with an ordinary walkman, though.

How else is op gonna boost the low end by 20db? Redundancy is in the eye of the beholder

was it ever stated that he needed to do that? is this post a follow-up to another post that I missed? because if your listening needs are that specific, and that bass-heavy, why are you even consuming media on a cassette (low fidelity) walkman (low fidelity) to begin with? it's all a bit abstruse. is he an audiophile train conductor with a passion for vintage electronics and 1980's aesthetics, needing something to listen to at work in the Locomotive? Lol. to answer your question of "How else...?" -- well, he could use low-end biased headphones such as Beats by Dre

I'm just goofing, but in the pic op posted he has the bass boosted +10 on the walkman and +10 on the eq lmao got a laugh out of this thanks

  • For the pic you should have cut the bass on one EQ and have it boosted on the other. That’s proper harmless rage bait IMO

  • Do both the walkman and the equalizer have belt clips? :-)

  • Isn’t the silver one a different deck just with an external EQ? I remember decks existed in that configuration

  • I desperately wanna walk around with these strapped to me

  • I had one of those and it was in a little folding vinyl cover.

  • Is that as useful as double wrapping?

It's probably only useful for compressing the audio through a poor quality equalizer, since the Sony already has one 😅 it's very cool though
