• If I still bothered using stamps, I would definitely get some of these. But nowadays, I use pirate ship and other services for sending letters and packages.

I honestly can’t remember the last time I bought a stamp

    go buy stamps!!!

It’s one of the few things the post office can make money on and they’re the ONLY federal service that can make money from sales. Without the post office many people would not be able to receive important information and correspondence and would be forced to utilize the Internet. A lot of rural communities still rely heavily on the post office for daily tasks.

I generally shipped the United States Postal Service. I do buy supplies from their post office once in a blue moon. I don’t ship letters like I used to. Unless it’s registered or certified mail I just sent everything by scan and email or fax. That’s a reason I don’t keep stamps around.

Now my packages they’re my go to. And I’m A-OK with tax money going to fund them because it’s a public service. Just like the roads, it’s something we all share and we all benefit from. Yeah it cost money but that’s what a share resource does.

I have to buy stamps every few months for work and I enjoy picking out the funnest ones. Definitely grabbing some low rider stamps. I liked the muscle car stamps they previously had.

Isn't stamp collecting as hobby dying out, because there are not younger people picking this hobby/passion up? Most collection that come to market from collector's heirs, that inherited the collection, because their uncle Bob passed away and left them behind his collection.

And unfortunately, nowadays it does not work with the ladies, if you tell them that you are collecting stamps and ask them if they want to come with you, so that you can show them your stamp collection. The last time this worked was in the 1980s.

I don’t know, but that sounds about right. There’s just some hobbies at the next generation are not gonna appreciate. For example, my dad wants me to have this giant China set. To use right? No, he wants me just inherited it so I can display it in a giant cabinet that takes up room.

I told him no thanks. I could see stamp collecting being one of those things as well where uncle Bob might’ve passed and gave it to me, but it’s not something I would do.

of some shady private company using gig economy serfs, right?

After looking at their site, Pirate Ship is just aggregating the discounts that large volume shippers get with USPS and UPS and offering that direct to consumer, no? Where are gig economy serfs coming into play?

That's...not what PirateShip is, my dude.

Do you get that in this economy most people have less spending power than they typically use to? So when I’m shipping something I try to save money as much as the next person. You can cry all you want for the union guys, but I’m not gonna be apologetic for doing what’s best for my finances and my budget.

The politics of them being underpaid and their wages, being in jeopardy does not lay on my shoulders. Talk to the people that were voted in that make these decisions. And me getting commercial shipping rates the ones businesses get anyways from United States Postal Service. Don’t make me ought to be the villain. Because they give those rates to businesses and not us retail customers.

I didn’t get to be in a position by being dumb with my money. If that was the case, I would just let the dealership to all my repairs and maintenance.

Being smart with your money, doesn’t mean you’re beyond wealthy

Sure, but your experiences are likely not exactly the same as "most people" or the "next person" as you describe.

I’m as budget conscious as much as the next American. Again, just because I’ve been smart with my money doesn’t mean that I’m so well off I can just willy-nilly spend needlessly.

I shop at Costco, I do budgets, I’m not infinitely wealthy. I’m just lucky that I don’t have kids so I’m able to put a lot more money into other budgets.

The fact that you observe a budget so you can spend money in your no-kids lifestyle on fast and fun cars does not make your experience relatable to the "most people" you described who in many cases literally cannot afford discretionary expenditures. That's all I'm saying.

Say you buy cheap postage because you're cheap and want stick to a budget and spend money on fun stuff. That's fine, and I get it. Don't say you buy cheap postage because your have no spending power like "most Americans", because that sounds like a lie.

I bought cheap postage because it helps me observe a budget. Money just doesn’t grow on trees. It has to come from somewhere.

If I just spend Willie Nelly and buy expensive postage, oh, I’m gonna get a Starbucks here instead of just making my own coffee, let me get Uber eats instead of just making my lunch. All these things add up and they take away from my budget.

Yeah, I might be better than some people, but there are others that are much better often than me. And that’s a very American condition to be in. Miata is cheap on gas and cheap on insurance, there’s a reason I sold a Mercedes

This is believable and understandable, and I agree. But I hope you understand that this is at least somewhat different than how you originally presented the issue.

  • I think the thing I like about these is they went from the 46 Fleetline to that Cutlass... really cool. Iconic. They didn't mess it up with a Chevy Luv or some crap.

This might be the first time I've ever thought about stamps.

How dare you besmirch the chevy luv. I loved that old Isuzu.

  • Have they ever issued a stamp to pay tribute to the Grumman LLV?

I’m kind of surprised they haven’t done a United States Postal Service stamp collection. There’s a lot of commercial vehicles that see some abuse over the years but United States Postal Service vehicles I think there’s some of the most under recognized.

  • I’ll buy some just for the novelty of it but when can we expect the Donks??

  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsrqKE1iqqo - that's already playing in my head.

OK, I want to actually get a set of these. Lowriders are the sort of thing I'm not super into myself, but always "appreciated from a distance" due to having finite time and budget for hobbies. They're totally part of American culture too, perfect for a stamp set really.

  • Not related, but 99% of mail I get nowadays is junk mail. I barely check/get my mail and think they should raise the prices of stamps to stop some of the junk mail, especially as all bills are basically online and auto pay nowadays.

I also don’t even keep stamps or envelopes in my house. It’s extraordinarily rare I need to send or receive a letter, and this will only get worse with the younger generations.

I’m surprised by a few comments about not having stamps in the house. How do you send Christmas cards and cards for bdays, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day etc?

Also I agree maybe upcharge stamp prices for corporate junk mail.

I’m surprised by a few comments about not having stamps in the house. How do you send Christmas cards and cards for bdays, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day etc?

Personally, I don't send any of that through the mail. If I am buying a card, It's because I'm going to see you and I will give you the card in person. If I am not seeing you, chances are you are just getting a Happy Birthday text, possibly a venmo or gift card through email.

I don't do christmas/holiday cards as I am lazy and not religious.
