Honda Heritage Works will sell newly improved and reproduction parts for beloved cars, and even restore yours completely if you have the coin.

  • Parts availability for classics is awesome. Every company should do this to some degree.

What I really want is weather seals for old cars to be produced again. They're impossible to find.

The things which vanish the soonest: fender liners and other plastic underbody pieces, weather seals, replacement glass, misc plastic trim, and early digital components like 90s HVAC PCBs. In my experience.

Seems like usually there is an aftermarket or reman solutions for suspension parts and engine parts. Usually, not always.

I hear early hybrid components can be really difficult too.

You covered pretty much every issue with my G35 haha. I can find all of the mechanical parts in the world on the aftermarket. But the little pieces of plastic and rubber just don’t exist. Especially interior stuff. I just have to repaint and reupholster.

The rubber door seal for bmw e36s, goes on the perimeter of the door opening on the body, was recently discontinued, but even before that it was like 750 dollars per seal -_-

Pelican has one left, right side and its on sale for $563!

Same with my old G35. Replacing all of the seals would cost more than the car is worth, even when the seals were still being made. It’s insane that there’s no after market for them.

I am so happy Mazda still sells the seals for the NA Miata. It's kinda wild what Mazda still makes for this car.

Well the Miata is the greatest vehicle ever made, created by god on the same day he made light itself. It makes sense that parts would still be made.

  • The former are, in the company’s words, “newly redeveloped and reproduced to replace original parts no longer available for sale by Honda.” They may sound like the lesser of the two categories, but what’s important to note here is that compatible parts will benefit from “technological advancements, and adoption of new materials and manufacturing methods.”

OEM Billman tct would be crazy

The press release clearly states that Heritage parts will be “available globally for purchase through the same distribution channels as other standard Honda genuine parts in each country.

The US isn't getting shafted for once !? They can keep the restoration program to themselves, this is still fantastic

I think we'll also see things like an improved clutch master cylinder which will finally have a dust boot over it. The damn piston keeps getting dirt around the lubricant on the C-rings which breaks the vacuum seal. It needs to be wiped down and relubed with urea grease and takes 10 minutes at most to do. People have just been throwing these things away.

We'll also see better bushings, ball joints, and gaskets which have greater tolerance to heat and wear. It's going to be sick. And a new F22C1? Fuck me. FUCK. I'd nut. And new trannies? Diffs? Jesus Christ.

I don't care about the restoration program. No chance in hell I want a stock S2000 again. I just want stuff like new ball joints and oil lines. New paint would be sick though... Actually, that would be really sick. It'll still be like 5 microns thick though lmao

    Hear me now.... HARD TOPS!!!

But seriously, they announced this for the NSX and S2000 right before covid and the manufacturing crisis killed it. Super glad to see it's finally made it's way back around.

I'm curious what a new hard top from Honda would cost. I paid ~$3000 for mine about 6 years ago. Can't imagine a brand new one would be less than that but who knows. This is exciting! If for no other reason than the next time some dopey fuck hits me on the road I can replace everything OEM without sourcing used parts.

I remember that tweet! It was in like early 2020 or late 2019. I remember people were bombarding Honda with requests for everything from ball joints to VTEC solenoids to hard tops. I'm glad they finally started it. It takes time for companies to get programs like this going because they're dealing with several different manufacturers to actually create all the stuff we need. I'm assuming the S2000 stuff will start in about 2 years. At that point, I will start pouring money into Honda for more stuff than I've already bought lmao

Would be lit if they could also repro the 20th anniversary series & the OEM hard top pretty pretty please

Seriously. I never liked the 20th anniversary stuff so I didn't hop on it when they released it, but I would love them to offer hard tops for people. That'd be so nice.

Oh man if I can order an f22c crate motor, I’m 100% buying one along with the transmission. I never got to experience a new s2000 and always wondered how one feels, mine had 69k miles when I bought it and I ended up replacing almost every rubber mount/bushing that isn’t suspension related, plan to redo all the suspension next summer. I hope they deliver on this and make a lot of s2k parts better and in volume

Man, I did EVERYTHING on my car except the really hard to find stuff and I'm like $25k deep. I'm the 2nd owner and this car had full service records when I bought it, but everything wore out with age and time, especially with how much I've driven my car over the last almost 8 years (it's my only car and daily). This car taught me that old cars are expensive to keep running, in both money and the time for my labor. This car was developed in the mid-90s so we're running bushing technology from the '90s before manufacturers started incorporating compounds like silicone to preserve the longevity of the rubber. I'm convinced modern bushings can last much, much longer today than they did back then before the bushings begin dry rotting and cracking. I'd really love to see how long the FL5 CTR bushings last on higher mileage cars before giving out. Running Öhlins will cause your bushings to start cracking because the bushings are now the weakest point in the suspension.

If I can get a new motor, tranny, and diff, I'm getting one and just keeping it in my apartment until this one goes. Then I'll get the blown motor rebuilt at Urge with NSC sleeves and pistons, knife edge the crank, and do a bunch of other goofy shit just because I can't sit still with this thing. Because life is short so fuck it why not.

Oil lines? What's wrong with the usual? Teflon hose, double braided stainless steel, then a layer of chafe/fireguard, with crimped fittings?

A million bushings out there, but if you want oem-style rubber, it tends to be hard to find.

For ball joints, does Howe make a set?

I can always make some oil lines but I’d rather just get OEM and be done. Bushings I went with poly. Engine mounts are 65A rubber. Ball joints even aftermarket is hard to find one that’s reliable.

Said parts are only for sports cars. I doubt they will make parts for a 90s Honda Acty for the Kei car market.

  • Damn, I might one day really build my dream EG hatch.

Nothing too crazy, just OEM+ with high redline NA built B16.

The B series is such a special motor IMO. Innovation without complexity. It doesn’t stand out in today’s HP wars of the internet, but those engines are excellent examples of engineering.

Yeah, I know I can make more money with newer engine but It’s an old school car so it deserves old school engine. It would have a crazy head on it, I wouldn’t be happy until it spins to 10k

One of my biggest regrets was not buying an EG back in the day in like 2004. This guy was selling a PERFECT condition EG, painted Cayman White Pearl (I think). It had a Spoon lip/duckbill and SW888 wheels, full DC2 Integra Type-R interior swap, and a fully built, turbocharged H22A from a JDM Prelude SH. It was terrifying to drive and I - to this day - have not been more scared of a car. It’s my one that got away.

    The white wHale!

    White whale, holy grail

SPLIT YOUR LUNGS WITH BLOOD AND THUNDER

My dream build of a 5th gen hatchback. A 95 EH3 Si with the B16/Trans, Brakes/Suspension from the Del Sol VTEC that sits on GSR Fat Fives. The ultimate 5th gen Hatchback that Honda as never built for the US.

  • This is a good thing for sure. Mercedes-Benz has me as a customer for life because of how well they support their heritage fleet. I don't understand why more companies don't do the same.

Honda has been historically amazing on Motorcycles, this is just them getting up to speed on the car side.

What bikes do they support well?

I live in Japan and I constantly hear how rare NSR parts are from owners here.

I was surprised that Suzuki still has parts for old Katanas but they might be NOS

I've got a CB500, C90 and CT110, no issues finding parts for any of them.

I had an old Nighthawk about a decade ago and parts availability was awful.

    Interesting, thanks!

Helps to have the most popular and most produced models of the bunch :). Absolutely nothing available for less common models

I had a string of 80s Honda V4 Sabres. I got the very last of the NOS stock for many part numbers, including common consumables such as fork bushings. Vintage motorcycles, including Hondas that aren't a CB350 or CB750 can be complete nightmares to source parts for.

NSR is probably not a great representation - the US market never got those bikes so parts supply was probably lower since it excluded the US market maybe

They are? How does one acquire parts for a 50 year old bike?

  • Come on, Mitsubishi. You're now the last of the big Japanese manufacturers that doesn't have a heritage parts program.

Lol if they did, it might even help keep old Protons and Hyundais going.

facts it's annoying i need new parts for my Eclipse

I don't think Subaru does either. Thankfully subaru shares a lot of mechanical stuff between models, but model specific trim pieces, interior parts, and other little bits? Forget about it

I mean for interior trim you can just 3d print new parts

  • Can Toyota do this with 100 Series Land Cruiser parts? Asking for a friend.

Not that they don’t exist, but god are they expensive.

This but for an 80. I need a new cat and probably an engine rebuild fml

  • I would bet that this will be extended to other classic older Hondas. They're leaving a lot of money on the table otherwise. Lot more old civics driving around vs NSXs.

They really aren't. Car parts are really varied, and don't make economic sense to manufacture except at scale with predictable production targets. I googled two on the (tiny) lists, one was a plastic door card and another was a transmission shim. A washer? Who cares? Maybe someone else could answer if they've restarted manufacture of hydraulic systems, control arms and body panels.

The way it's only for the NSX and only for a few dozen parts, and (until now) only in Japan paints a clear picture. Honda does not care to lose so many millions publishing a useful catalog. They're doing it for the press. There aren't going to be even S2000 parts, much less Civic.

Time will tell. There are plenty of collectors out there who will pay top dollar for new old stock of oem parts. We're not in the 2000s anymore, these can be serious collectors items.

Doubt. Honda isn’t going to do this. Waste of resources for parts on unwanted vehicles. You still need a certain amount of buyers to justify a production run.

You still need a certain amount of buyers to justify a production run.

tbh that's how most heritage parts programs run. Once there's enough requests for X part, they'll do a batch + some extras, voila.

  • A S2000 would have a wait list years long and people would resell it for an insane amount.

  • Hell yeah, my classic 96 civic was in need of a bit of love

My 98 Accord has quite a few nonessential parts missing and I'm sure it would qualify as a classic to Honda that is vital to their history.

  • Absolutely love this. I'd pay double for a used NSX if it included a full restoration at this facility in Japan. May as well just buy one from overseas.

  • Gimmie some 3rd gen integra parts plz.

  • I can still get a lot of the parts for my 1990 Honda VFR400R from Japan.

  • Maybe I can finally get the SRS light off on my nsx

  • This is the only thing they've done right this year

The only thing? They landed a reusable rocket prototype and secured an F1 engine deal this year.

Jus let me be dramatic ffs

  • C'mon Ford, I want some OEM Mk1 Focus RS parts without paying the absurd money people expect for them.

  • Doesn’t mazda do this too? I’m happy to see car companies starting to do this makes me happy they care.

  • I dream of the day that they start making the targa seals again for the Del Sol. Those things are unobtanium and so complex that nobody has been able to even commission custom repros to be made.

  • Damn wish I hadn’t gotten rid of my Del Sol now.

  • Dear Honda,

Please add the s2000 to this program.

    Thank you.

  • No plans for Preludes, uh..? :-/

  • New cars are all crap! So it makes sense to cash in on the restomod trend.
