Mostly normal stuff due to retirements, but shuffling out deputy clerk to defence and a new guy in finance is noteworthy. Justice Hogue coming in from outside the public service is also interesting.
If you mean Nick Leswick, he's had a very accomplished past at Finance Canada. Used to be an ADM from about 2015 to 2021, then the Associate DM until 2024 when he moved to the Bank of Canada.
Friday’s announcement places 12 new people in senior deputy minister-level positions, either in charge of federal departments or as senior officials in the PCO.
Eight senior officials are listed as retiring.
You’re going to be hard pressed to find Liberals with no connection to the Trudeau family. It’s not the mark of the beast unless you’re a chronically online twitter troll.
I wonder if/when they shuffle the Ministers, Gary “supporting terrorists is routine” Anandasangaree will be shuffled? I hope not because he seems fit to serve as our Public Safety Minister!

Yes, not saying anything about him, just interesting they shuffled finance despite no retirement.
It's definitely the place where Carney will expect and demand excellence.
I think what else is interesting is that there will be more changes to be announced early in the new year.
Only 25% of the departures from the senior civil service specifically mentioned retirement. That does not align with my understanding of “mostly.”
Tgam article listed 8 DMs as retiring
I think the word used in the article was “departing”. The announcement on the PM’s website specifically used retirement in only two of the eight.
Edit: the article online may have been updated since your copy/paste… though I appreciate the effort.
I was referring to the globe and mail article. Although, I'll take a slap on the wrist for not checking the primary source from the Canada.ca release.
… or reading the article that you’re commenting on?
Interesting is one way to put it.
It feels a little quid pro quo-y to me.
How so? These aren’t cushy assignments. The deputy ministers run the actual bureaucracy.
Yes, they're also highly sought after positions.
Some people don't want cushy, they want power. DMs have a lot of power.
This may be a bit inside Ottawa, but I view it more as a punishment. You diagnosed the problem, now it's your job to fix it.
Good old Justice Hogue, Trudeau family friend and defender. Let’s not forget about this:

We are never going to get a foreign agent registry are we, what an absurd appointment

You think this is a good thing?
This is the thing isn’t it - all of these families are old money or colleagues in one way or another. It’s still just another class.

who's even in his cabinet any longer? is anyone keeping track?
it's like a shell game on the street
Deputy ministers are not cabinet ministers. They are the top non-political bureaucrat of each department.
so, you have no idea just like everyone else
Someone else already posted the cabinet ministers.
On top of that, all the deputy ministers are listed here: https://geds-sage.gc.ca/en/GEDS/?pgid=016&fid=11
what's the point when each month they are different?
They’re not, please learn to read.
So why are you posting then?
They haven’t changed since the election.
That's like the easiest thing to find: https://www.pm.gc.ca/en/cabinet
Not sure why that would be hard to track. The media is flooded whenever there's a change. "Overreporting" is what I call it.

I don't know of many shell games that publish up to date websites on whats on the shells...
Also as another poster said, this announcement is for DMs, not Cabinet ministers
The world is pretty scary when you don't bother to try and understand it, eh?
