• Buffy slays the correct terminology 💅

    She slays EVERYTHING she touches 🔥 🥊 🔥 🥊

And this time, she's slaying the franchise itself.

  • Hopefully the studio approves the pilot soon so they can actually start filming the first season of the show. At this rate we wont get a premier until 2027.

According to the trades, they plan to shoot in March (if it's greenlit). An early 2027 release is probably already baked in.

Premier of the new show on Buffy's TV 30 year anniversary would make sense. Also gives them all next year to film the first season.

Yeah the 30 year anniversary is why I don’t mind at all waiting til possibly 2027. That said … would I mind it sooner ? Absolutely not lol

This would also give them plenty of time to prepare and release a proper HD remaster in 2026 so we can all get a fresh rewatch in before the new show ^_^

Yesss pls I will be more excited than Cordelia gets for new clothes if and when they announce a proper remaster. I’d honestly given up all hope but if there was ever a time for renewed interest it’s definitely with this new show. Hopefully it’s a success and we get all the things we deserve

I wouldn’t hold my breath for that tbh

Oh I’m not. This show has never gotten the respect it deserves , despite —I’m pretty sure—the dvds selling pretty well. With the sequel show I’m staying cautiously optimistic but definitely not expecting any miracles.

If we do get anything i imagine it will simply be the current inaccurate hd transfer on disc. Guess we’ll see.

A year ago I would have agreed with you, but with a direct sequel show in the works, the landscape has changed a bit.

When a lot of money is to be made, I'd think it has a fair chance of happening. Now is the time. This is why they wait to put out these things, because if they can strike at a moment of synergy, by selling something else related, so that it's all on your mind, they can generate the most frenzy for it.

Yeah, i figured it would premier for the 30th anniversary.

Hope it's a global premier otherwise I'll have to avoid the internet for a while

That would honestly be perfect. Especially if it premieres in March of 2027. That would be insane!

Damn, I'll go crazy with anxiety if it takes that long.

Did they say 2027 ? I could live with that

  • I do hope it’s done mainly with the original fans in mind, and not just mainly for picking up new fans and og fans just getting occasional references.

I just feel like a lot of times when these long awaited sequels are made it always feels like the producers or whoever just think “well the og fans will watch because they’re already fans regardless, so let’s focus to mainly just draw in new fans” which is fine in a sense cause 1 it is a business, more fans = more profit and 2 it’s good to just introduce it to a new audience..but then it also ends up meaning they change things up a lot that the original fans love, whether it’s the tone or they just start killing off beloved og characters

I’m still skeptical but I’m still going to check it out and try and stay positive

That's how I felt when Vampire Diaries came out. I loved those books when I was a kid. I was so excited for the show and then I was crushed. The only resemblance to the book were some character names.

Some part of me fears that will happen again. However, I do trust SMG in a way. She knows Buffy. She'll do right by Buffy.

I felt the same way about scream 5/6

That's what happened with Charmed... I still haven't the courage to see a complete episode of the reboot

I said the exact same thing when the news of this came out. My first thought was they ruined Charmed, they ruined The Craft, please don’t let them ruin Buffy. 🤞🏻

Did Charmed have any of the original actors involved? I didn't pay much attention to it so I don't know, but I always saw it as a reboot of the franchise as a whole (which is instantly -50 points for me).

SMG being involved is a huge green flag, especially when she was always hardline against bringing the franchise back. The fact that she's involved is a huge boon to it and gives me a lot more faith than if she wasn't.

As far as I know, don't. In fact, many of the original cast heavily criticised the new series.

Without Joss Whedon involved you should be skeptical.

Yeah my expectations are bottom of the barrel without Whedon

  • "themes of found family" so true. thats why Buffy has a huge LGBTQ fan base. slay queen!

  • "A world of Buffy" Slight AU?

    Begging for Fray 🙏

    Disney cannot use that character

I still want that too, and I haven’t even read them. The premise of it seems a touch more interesting than the reboot premise

Could be a way to bring back characters who were killed off. 🤞🏻

Or kill off characters that weren't, like Dawn.

For Dawn, they could go the easy way or the hard way. Easy: she died and and spell broke, so it's like she never existed. They just never talk about her. Hard: she died and they rewrite the script to show Buffy's grief for her.

I think your ’easy way’ would hugely and tragically disrespectful to Michelle Trachtenberg. 😱😰

I really think SMG would find it very disrespectful and inappropriate. And I could not see Sarah being okay with that, and would find such a storyline difficult to deal with grief wise for Michelle.

I'd say that your hard version is the easy way. It's what they did about Chadwick Boseman in Wakanda Forever.

  • Wow she looks freaking great

She sure is. Still a very attractive woman.

  • Maybe the world of Buffy will be world without shrimp...iykyk

  • I'm really happy she pointed out the found family aspect. That's been my favorite component of the original series so I'm really hoping it has a prominent role in this one too.

  • Thanks for posting!!!

  • She was (is) so perfectly cast ❤️❤️❤️ love Sarah

  • Her clarifying that its not a reboot but a continuation of the story made me more optimistic for it.

  • I am cautiously optimistic.

    I am optimistically cautious

  • FINALLY 😩 I swear I felt years leave my body when I would see people call this a "reboot".

  • Finally! A reboot would mean a different actress as Buffy in a different version of that world, clean slate and all. I was so tired of reading "reboot" everywehre. Thanks Sarah!

Also her comments on how the production has a lot of thought behind it just made me extra hyped. Right now I just can't imagine Chloe Zhao and Sarah would make anything subpar if compared to the original show.

  • I feel like “spinoff” is more of the appropriate term.

I need a spinoff, from the spinoff, that focuses on a late forties Buffy.

Yeah there’s never been a Slayer that’s lasted that long in history so it would be very interesting to see her life and how she adapts to aging

Well we don’t know the life of every Slayer because the line goes back at least 10000 years if not longer so in all that time it’s likely that at least a few Slayers lived into their 30s and 40s.

  • Does she Smg sound a tiny bit sick? Shes so cute. I hope she's feeling well. She looks great.

  • If xander is in it, please let him have developed into less of a douche 🙏

He won’t be in it as unfortunately Nicholas Brendon is still an alcoholic as far as I’m aware, with a lot of inappropriate behavioural Issues.

It’s why he wasn’t in the main photo or the group video for the vast reunion a few years ago. They had to do a separate thing with just him and Emma Caulfield.

I do feel for Nicholas a lot as he is an abuse survivor. But so am I and I never became an alcoholic douchebag. And my issue is that he has the money to have plenty therapy whereas so many CSA survivors don’t. I just mention it as a lot of people don’t know the root cause and I do have some sympathy and understanding as a fellow survivor, but you can’t take it out on others.

I actually meant the character Xander, not the actor himself. Xander was supposed to be Joss Whedons way of inserting himself into the show and its well known how problematic he was on the set. Basically I'm hoping Joss Whedon has less of a presence in the show but I'm sorry to hear about Nicholas.

Yeah Joss has zero to do with the new show. Of course years ago fans used to be like ‘no new Buffy show/sequel without Joss’ - now no one wants him involved.

I don’t think they’ll be bringing back any old characters but with new actors. It would be a bit weird. I’m kinda surprised you thought of it as an option since you didn’t know about Nicholas’s problems.

Just to clarify , that the reason there are limits to my sympathy for Nicholas is because he was charged with assaulting an ex girlfriend. She later dropped the charges. He’s also been arrested a lot for drunkenly trashing hotel rooms. I mean it’s only inanimate objects, but it does cause a lot of hassle for the poor hotel staff and I think he’s been shouty and aggressive to them.

Hence why , even though we’ve been though the same type of abuse, I have a limited amount of sympathy. Especially since he has easy access to therapy but didn’t do it. Hopefully he has by now.

I’m being very ‘gossipy’ about Nicholas - but in my chat with you above I kinda assumed you knew ( my bad, it was in the news a lot). So like I don’t like the idea of anyone thinking that I would call anyone a douchebag just because they are an alcoholic. Especially a CSA survivor.

I probably knew and then forgot, my memory is fuzzy on a lot of things these days but I get what you mean about the limited sympathy

  • Oh shit. When she says 'in a world of Buffy', that makes me think it'll be an alternative universe...

  • "Everyone also has an opinion on how it should be done"

That probably means it shouldn't be done at all, unless you wanna milk the franchise.

  • Wouldn't you love to have SMG as a friend, seems the type that would never forget your birthday 🎂

  • Has there been anything said about whether the comics will be canon?

I doubt they will be. They wouldn't want to limit themselves creatively on the new show. Maybe some nods here and there if they fit in the story they want to tell.

Does anyone involved even know what happens in the comics?

SMG knows about Buffy and Satsu! Brendan was a reader (and writer) of the comics and told her at a convention

It was Seth green who told her that Buffy gets with Satu in the comics

So that’s what that Slayer’s name is, interesting!

Maybe if it doesn't contradict whatever story they're telling, and if they can refer to them in a way where people with zero knowledge or interest won't feel lost. It's like Star Wars -- at the end of the day, the only continuity that counts is what we saw on screens.

Hopefully not, they were overall terrible

  • If they put in as much thought as Cobra Kai’s creators did that show, I think everyone will be happy

  • I just hope they don’t screw this up (assuming the studio approves the pilot) and hoping that they will get some of the writers that worked on the series (Drew Goddard for example).

I am tired of “Legacy sequels” going down the “Member berry” route by attempting to bring new fans and have nostalgic references left and right. Oh, and also bastardize a legacy character in the name of having the new protagonist be the “New Hero”.

None of the writers have any interest have been publicly vocal about either out of loyalty to Joss or working on their own stuff. Jane Espenson for example now work for Amazon

  • I just hope it is good

  • I love Buffy, I always have

  • Do we know if it’s continuing after season 7 or the comics? Cause the only way I can see it, is it being like a very close universe within the multiverse of BTVS.

It's set 25 years after the end of the original series and in continuity with the original series. Everyone assumes (reasonably) that the comics will be disregarded and effectively de-canonized, though that's not officially confirmed.

I kind of hope they don’t de-canonize the comics. I know they weren’t popular with a lot of the fans, but I liked them. I feel like they added a lot of depth and development for the Buffyverse.

They did so much justice for characters like Dawn, faith, drusilla (imo), and even Xander (still don’t necessarily want him in the show).

It was also great to see them finally have the budget, given comics are almost always significantly cheaper to produce than a tv show, to show off how powerful the Buffyverse is.

Now I’d be okay if they decided to make season 11-12 non-canon, mainly cause I haven’t read that far and have seen a few others say they don’t consider those canon.

  • 25 years later? I think She doesn't consider the end point of Season 12 or Season 5 of Angel, so goodbye to 2011 and 2004.

    So 2003+25= 2028!

Well the series Is set in 2028 then.

  • It’s not going to have Joss so I doubt it will work. I hope for the best but I look at all Joss’s other work that people have tried to finish/make work and they fail miserably. I’m not holding my breath.

Note: look what they did to The Nevers 😱

  • I love how people on this sub keeps posting “articles” and videos discussing the new series that are literally nothing burgers of rehashed information we already new without anything substantial discussed.

Good point. Let's get back to talking about how Xander sucks and debating if Willow paid rent.

    This made me snort

    And stay talking about nothing?

Is there anything that has yet to be unearthed about this 25 year old tv series or do we just shut down the sub?

It's a show about nothing, Jerry!

  • Yeah, it’s a continuation/revival! Reboot is a restarting, not a continuation!
