Hi, I saw somewhere that there's a copy of the Firefox browser called Ironfox, and I was wondering what the differences are, what's better or worse about it, and lastly, is the Ironfox browser secure?

  • Firefox on android devices are very insecure. And Mozilla has been dragging their feet on this and still has still not fixed those issues. Ironfox was built to address these issues because, Mozilla doesn't exactly seem to care about them at the moment.

And for the most part, they've been doing OK, but the problem is you do not want a fork maintainer to handle something as important as security. That should come directly from the baseline browser. Even with Ironfox doing the Lord's work and their heart being in the right place, it's still not recommended to use gecko base browser on android devices.

Can you explain why Gecko based is not recommended?

  • It has its own Phoenix (similar to betterfox) built in which is better than betterfox ie. More speed and privacy/security enhancements
