My local spoons holds one of my favourite pieces of art, and I'm not taking the piss. It's by a local artist depicting the town centre at night as it may have looked at the turn of the last century.
To be fair most spoons display large wall panels about the building, the street, notable locals, the area's history, etc and they also publish pub history pages online. So it's a bit out of keeping
I saw a YouTube thing on Spoons and it actually highlighted some real positive points about it. I'm not a fan overall, but I do like a cheap Guinness and a £2.99 breakfast every now and then, though. However.... apparently... what he's done for old buildings is commendable, the carpet thing is interesting, and i don't like his politics. Still, worth a watch - i think it's called Britain's Best and he's got some good stuff on there (and even though it sounds right wing, it's not lol)
Not that I don't believe it, but a picture would be nice - as much heat as spoons (deservedly) gets for its owner being a bit of a nobhead, the pubs generally seem to pay respect to their location's history.
Also, as much of a knobhead he is, I cannot imagine Tim Martin wanting his pubs to embrace AI art. I'd be very curious to see where they're doing this. Take some pictures and upload them to somewhere we can have a look.
The food is dire, it’s almost all reheated or microwaved by minimum wage kitchen staff. It’s glorified fast food that’s not as fast and more expensive.

I expect better from the institution of culture & ethics that is Wetherspoons
Hahaha tbf though they normally have like little history bits on the walls which is interesting when I'm halfway through my 2nd pint at 9am
Seriously though to replace that for ai just seems pointless and polluting the space for I guess someone making their department useful for cheap?
Yeah the pub in Hammersmith actually refers to William Morris!
Often their pubs try to link with some aspect of the locality. The one in Blackpool is The Albert And The Lion.

The one in the town I work has photos of the town from the 19th and early 20th century. It would be a shame if they get replaced with slop
Why would they put their food on the wall?
Best place for it, to be fair

I would be interested too, looking online it looks like this location like most wetherspoons includes a lot of historical photographs as art

Not even remotely supprised. Side note. Those hope tap stairs to the toilets can fuck right off.
Is there a picture of the offending artwork?
Slop for the slop god
It's probably and most likely the manager that has done that not Wetherspoons themselves.
Wetherspoons don't tend to do things like this themselves from an image perspective.
What an unfortunate day to announce this...
Well at least the art is as soulless as the rest of the decor now.
Not surprised this happened in the Hope Tap, notoriously scabby Spoons https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2020/11/naked-couple-caught-romping-inside-a-bar-in-full-view-of-passersby-18.html
You gonna show us or you want to put everyone up for the night when we visit?
Long as their prices are low, food is fine and service remains good, I don't care.
I really hope that "fine" was said with the correct inflection
Yes fine. Not amazing, not awful but does the job for the price point.
This is the right version of "fine" for a Spoons.
Honestly, at their price point, there have been a few occasions where the food was really quite decent, especially for lunch.
Their three plates for £10 is amazing value.

I see that you're the embodiment of the sub name.
It is quite literally awful.
Yeah, fuck artists, graphic designers and anyone else trying to make a living creatively. Fucking losers.
I agree. About time someone takes a stand.
You’re in a Wetherspoons, what are you fucking expecting?
Something on loan from Manchester municipal gallery clearly.
There was an AI news report on the radio the other day 🤷🏼♂️
Industry killers killing another industry.... shock
Wetherspoons are keeping the real ale industry going. One of the best places to get a pint in some places and not just because of the price.
As some one in the brewing industry, it's not. They offered us terrible price points for everything and we're incredibly difficult to work with
AI art in wetherspoons just makes so much sense
