So what is everyone’s thoughts on the book?

I was expecting more twists but I do like how it ended! It did remind me of The Last Mrs. Parrish as well - highly recommend that one!

What did you all like/dislike about the book? Thoughts on the ending?

  • I had a really good time reading it, but it did seem abruptly ended! I guess maybe because it’s part of a series; these characters’ stories end, and then she can get on to writing about more. I found it really addictive, even if far fetched! I love when books include a social media element and a stalking element, like “Instalook.” I don’t find that often enough, and it’s fascinating. I was really relieved that nothing bad happened to Whiskers, unless I skimmed past it, also. I lowkey think the author forgot she wrote a cat in there.

I did think the prologue was weird. It seemed like some things were set up (power being out, the line “shes already come and gone”) that I expected to click more obviously into place. Also, I fully admit that I am garbage at timelines, so the chapter headings that say exactly when things took place relative to the prologue are maybe leading me astray when they should be clarifying for me!!

I agree! It was a really enjoyable read - super quick. And I agree that the author forgot about the whiskers just as much as Izzy did 😂

Definitely. The last Izzy and Josie chapter threw me off - and I think this is because the author is an independent author, so she may not have the "tightness" of having specific editors finish up the book. I couldn't grab how Josie would have guessed that Izzy would have killed Grant, since she didn't kill Josh - so how does she assume she would be able to escalate it that way? And Izzy's prologue also didnt make sense, because what could she possibly have against Josie?

I feel like The Last Mrs. Parrish and Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Parrish did a better job at the "behind closed doors/reality of marriage" trope because the endings/means to the end were a bit more cohesive.

I completely agree that the last chapter was a little off. Instead of neatly wrapping things up it actually left me feeling a little confused.

I agree! I think if it ended with just Josie's chapter it would have made more sense

  • I’ll have to check out the other book OP!

I felt like the ending was really abrupt! It escalated so quickly and I wasn’t ready for the characters to be finished telling their stories yet. It was awesome Josie was in the know the whole time! That surprised the crap out of me. Izzy just wanting some nice clothes to do her interview in was par for the course. Man, her neighbor w benefits was a bad dude.

I got sucked in and finished the last half in one weekend, which is my favorite thing about reading. If I have to force it I figure it’s not the book for me. But this one kept me reading.

So, thanks, it was a good read.

TBH I found The Last Mrs. Parrishto be better written and had the same type of story.

It definitely kept me reading as well, bit I agree that the ending was abrupt. I wanted a bit more Josie and Izzy knowing about the affair and playing with that.

  • Overall I really enjoyed the book. I did feel the ending was a bit rushed and the last chapter didn’t wrap things up as nicely as I would have liked.

  • I ended up reading the entire book after the second set of chapters. I just had to know what happened, even though I didnt like the characters at the time.

Overall I liked it, but not enough to want to read the others in the series. There were just so many things left unanswered, even for a series. The only other negative I had was the way the characters interacted. Every time the characters just happened to be where Izzy was, it felt way too forced and uncommon, just to get the characters where they needed to be in order to push the plot foreward.

  • Ya I found the ending rushed too, although I liked that Josie was scheming all along. Personally I found all the characters to be rather unpleasant so it's very unlikely I would read it again or continue the series.
