The r/nba thread on this is hilarious. So many people in there acting like Mazulla went up there and said something heinous and out of pocket. Who gives a shit if the media doesn’t get a postgame quote for one game.
All of those scintillating recaps of a Jaylen Brown-less Celtics Vs husk of Indiana Pacers mid January Monday night battle that would have been the sports stories of the year have been RUINED!
Or they act like the fact that they watched Al Horford set 2 illegal screens 3 years ago means every team is equally guilty and it should never be discussed.
We set so many illegal screens every game. That is the NBA in 2026. I was cringing at some of our illegal screens and earlier in the game. Every team is ridiculous at this point.
I bet you he gets fined. When you get fined for pointing out that people are inept at their job you know there’s a problem.
“Our referees bet on the games and attempted to control the outcome taking advantage of subjectivity. The solution is to not let anyone criticize them, make money on sports gambling ourselves, and pretend it never happened.”
Bring it Joe!! Energy!!! This is an INSTANT classic!!!
I don’t really understand what he’s referring to - specifically, but I really dig this anyway. I mean, I get that it has to do with one or more illegal screens…
I luv my coach, but that was an illegal screen? I don't see it. White was on Siakam to start with, then remained on him after the screen; it's not like the screen caused an unwanted switch
The NFL has the most gambling of the major professional sports, and 10 rules are broken in every second of typical gameplay. The NBA is trying to be that
As a completely neutral fan with no real interest in either team winning or losing, I loved how the game was officiated.. it was physical hard defense with very little stoppage.
Made it very fun to watch. And it's not like it was Pacers alone benefiting from the no calls.
If Celtics hit their shots better they would have won easily.
if your team was officiated like the celtics, you wouldn't feel so blase. lakers get the number of foul calls celtics got the last two games in a single quarter and that's not even an exaggeration
This isn't cute. Joe's entire coaching philosophy is built on this idea that the margins between winning and losing are razor-thin, so a win doesn't mean everything's good and a loss doesn't mean everything's bad. And yet I have a sneaky suspicion that if Derrick White hit that shot, Joe wouldn't be sitting there like an angry ten-year-old whining about illegal screens.
Joe is a great coach and he does most of the job at an elite level but this isn't cute.
“If Indiana was benefitting from illegal screens and Garza was also benefiting from illegal screens WHY did you sub out Garza? Why wasn’t Queta illegal screening in the 4th while your team settled for contested 3s?”
White final shot
“Hey, how about trying an illegal screen on that play? Did you tell the team to take advantage of what the referees were allowing?”
Everyone has a bad game. Celtics kicked away a winnable game last night, mostly because of coaching.
Yeah, this tells us what those of us who aren't fanboys already know. He's an unintelligent child. That was pathetic. Everyone in the organization should be embarrassed.
they lose one game and this guy acts like the Celtics haven't done anything bad, member the illegal hit to the head i jax had?. Seems they forgot that was illegal.

But they even got a quote! “Illegal screen” take it and run

Honestly we're one of the more egregious teams in the league with illegal screens this season, Joe is kinda bugging here lol. I love it though
I mean, they did get a post game quote. This is better than they get after most games, an epic crashout with a meme attached?
What? No it isnt. They're all laughing along lmao. Why lie?
I had to scroll far before giving up and sorting by controversial just to find a disagreeing take on the NBA thread.

I thought that “I’m only here so I don’t get fined” was the greatest interview of all time. “Illegal screen” might just be better 😂😂
It delivers the criticism of the referees while also not being overt enough to warrant a fine
I bet you he gets fined. When you get fined for pointing out that people are inept at their job you know there’s a problem.

I think he's referring to illegal screens.
Maybe.
Last offensive play from the Pacers - Siakam on White
I luv my coach, but that was an illegal screen? I don't see it. White was on Siakam to start with, then remained on him after the screen; it's not like the screen caused an unwanted switch
To be fair, we set so many illegal screens. I know casuals don’t care, but I am really sick of all the illegal screens in the NBA.
The NFL has the most gambling of the major professional sports, and 10 rules are broken in every second of typical gameplay. The NBA is trying to be that
Exactly. Love and support joe but this was a weak response to our own shit
Yeah. And don’t get me wrong. I want our guys doing it if that is the new norm. I just hate watching it.
I love this psycho
I L L E G A L S C R E E N
Nah, I think it’s that we couldn’t score in the 4th and took an awful final shot.
Illegal screen
Illegal screen.
Illegal screen
Interesting point.

Agreed. It's kinda annoying that this is how Mazzulla responds when his lack of ability to draw up a last minute play is once again shown.
Illegal screen
You’re getting downvoted but it’s true
Illegal screen
Illegal screen
You forget the buzzer beater in the playoffs a couple years back at the brink of elimination to beat this team on our way to a title.
JB's off balance contested 3?

Representative, representative, representative
Gotta love the disassociated look on Joe’s face as he scans the room in between each “illegal screen…”🤣🤣🤣
honestly how do we not win the chip with all this chaotic good energy
Could you imagine Brad Stevens in 2019 after a loss being like "illegal screen... illegal screen... illegal screen"
As a completely neutral fan with no real interest in either team winning or losing, I loved how the game was officiated.. it was physical hard defense with very little stoppage.

Pistons tend to thrive in no call games, honestly. We foul a lot.
Illegal screen
Good point, honestly haven't thought of that.
The fact that there were no fouls called in the third quarter sums It Up perfectly. Our shot was awful and this Game should have been a 10+ win easy.
same with spurs game. c's get even 15 FTAs, they win.
I actually agree with you, we just didn't play well. But we just played like 5 games in 4 days so that's not really surprising.
But also, illegal screen
Rock, flag, illegal screen
as usual, Joe's commitment to the bit is impeccable
An Eagle Scream?
I like ice cream
If I were Joe, I'd crash out in the third "Illegal screen" and go berserk against the reporters like a maniac.
Bro just pulled a bill belichick
The next time my wife is questioning me about something, “illegal screen”
A little scream
So now that the L2M report shows that it was an Incorrect No Call, will Joe be getting fined for this?
Rockets fan, due to where I grew up. C's fan because wife from Mass. Loved this video, too many illegal screens in today's nba.
Comedy gold.
Illegal screen
God I love angry Joe, that’s our psycho!
Bout time! Mr "boot strap" has awaken to the fact that you can't just stand there and take the BS! I love this!
Amazing. Joe knows that no one’s gonna watch this (even in Boston) after the Pats won, so might as well make it entertaining.
I wonder if he’ll get fined, cos this is actually a good media strategy to call out refs, like erm Tatum could clap at every question
That’s my coach!
What was the play he’s referring to? Anyone know? Or is it just in general?
The play that siakam set an illegal screen then hit the game winning shot after.
Bro is not bill belichick this is so corny
