Sylvester had a urinary blockage and ended up needing surgery. It’s been a rough couple weeks, but he’s doing great!
The last picture was him in the hospital. They put jingle bells on him because he’s a seizure risk (epileptic). We joked that they changed his settings from “vibrate” to “ring”

So weird! My brother's cat had the same blockage issue three weeks ago! I've also been calling him boots with the fur. 👢
Hoping yours continues on the good healing path!
Such a handsome boy. I'm so glad Sylvester is feeling better. And he's rocking the r/bootswiththefur
I’m so glad he’s doing better. What a handsome kitty. He seems to have accepted the cone of shame pretty well too! That picture of him looking in the mirror is my favorite! 😹
I am glad kitty is doing better.
But also, please God, I can't afford my own sweet boy experiencing a blockage right now.
I too had a urinary blockage hospital boy.
Maybe everything I’m about to say you already know, but I had years to research it and thought it might help. It’s very common with male kitties. Did you put him on or hear about the c/d diet? It’s prescription and expensive, but a game changer in my experience. Didn’t have a single issue since starting him on it years ago thank goodness. Whatever food you use, I recommend mixing his wet food with a little warm water so it’s a kind of lumpy stew, further hydrates for urinary health. Only snackies for dry food, mostly meat “soup” for actual meals. C/d has wet and dry food.
Also idk if it’s bothering him a lot (some cats suffer it better than others) but I highly recommend a pillow “cone” instead of the stiff plastic one. It’s like a neck pillow donut, if you look up pillow pet cone for cats you can find them all over. Hugs to Sylvester!
Thank you for the tips! It is stuff I already know- but it may not be stuff that other people know and it’s good to make more people aware of this condition and what to do! C/d is awesome stuff- they started him on it in hospital and we’ve continued at home!
Not gonna lie though- I think the vet staff tied this cone on with magic because I never would’ve fathomed that this wild child born to a feral colony would ever tolerate a cone. I’m afraid to take it off out of concern I won’t be able to put it back on 🥲
Speaking of tips to post in case anyone needs it: Sylvester refused to touch watered down food, so I ended up making him a treat I called “tuna jello” to try to get more water in him. Water, unflavored gelatin, tuna juice+some tuna pieces, and a little c/d. It was a complete abomination by all accounts, I’m hesitant to recommend it to others because other cats probably actually have sense and taste, but Sylvester loved it.
There are prescription urinary diets from other brands too (Purina Vet Diet UR and Royal Canin Urinary SO), if the taste of c/d isn't doing it for him. They also honor a taste guarantee, so you can return them if he won't eat those either.

Same. 😂 Was that not the song OP meant?
What a blep. 😋
Poor baby. He's adorable.
I’m so glad you got your baby with his perfect boots and gorgeous, floofy tail and whiskers unblocked.
Kitty johnny gowns exist. Or size newborn or 0-3m infant clothing! Your cat may be less miserable than the cone.
Unfortunately clothing isn’t an option because the spot we’re keeping him from bothering is his urethral opening 🥲 We were hoping to have him out of the cone at this point, but he kept on licking the area and giving himself infections- vet thinks the healing process is making him itchy. We bought a few styles of soft cone once the cone started to become a long term thing. Surprisingly, the best one hands down has been this absolutely ridiculous novelty flower cone. He’s MUCH more comfortable now, and he looks fabulous!

Oh I see! Our little goomba ate hair ties, then 6m later a pipe cleaner. He wasn't happy in his cone and crate (wasn't allowed to jump around). We discovered the johnny gown. Omg. That is absolutely adorable!! I bet hummingbirds and bumblebees would check him out 😂
