Considering how heavily modded it is - it runs very well.

  • Hey man, how did you get this running on the deck? I'm not tech iliterate by any means but have struggled getting modded doom running on there

I’m able to play brutal doom with gzdoom but I havent been able to figure out how to add additional mods like this.

Theoretically, you should be able to get uzdoom-bin (via AUR) or just the appimage if that's not allowed on the Steam Deck (sorry I have no clue, I don't own one, wish I did; I just daily drive CachyOS lol). Once you have it, you can either use the command line, lutris, or perhaps some other doom launcher you might like more. Personally, I have a huge collection of Doom Mods on Lutris (using ZDoom, but with the custom executable set as /bin/uzdoom in the runner options), and configure each mod like in the attached image (ignore my extremely weird wad collection)... and voilá! Incredibly smooth doom, with all the pros of linux, piled up with the rest of your games, so fast to run you may end up playing everything instead of touching up your library! You can also tick the "add to steam" option when you make a game, so that each one (and it's bundle of mods) is usable from your steam library (including Gaming Mode!). If I'm not mistaken, all of this should work flawlessly on the Steam Deck too 'cuz it is arch-based after all :D

I hope this is useful! Honestly, explaining it is a lot more convoluted than actually doing it, so I bet you can do it too! The end result, and how your library can end up; is extremely satisfying. Good luck brother, Rip and tear!!! <3

You are amazing, thank you so much.

  • Brutal doom (and quake) are a joy to play

  • Try diamond dragon - you definitely like it!

Damn, that looks amazing. Will absolutely be trying this out - thank you 🙏

  • Ngl, personally this look visually exhausting.

  • Guide please

  • Damn that's sick

  • Wow? And what the list of mods? Thanks!

  • What mod is adding bullet time?

I’m not on my Deck right now, but I’m pretty sure it’s just called ‘Bullet Time X’ or something along those lines. Just search Doom 2 bullet time on moddb and you’ll find it.

  • GZDeck is how I did it. You pick your game then your mods and it loads it no problem. It's on github

I started with GZDeck and GZDoom but started running into issues running certain mods. Moved over to using ZDL with UZDoom and it’s been smooth sailing with everything I’ve tried since.

GZDoom is essentially DOA now so moving on to UZDoom sooner rather than later is a good call.

  • Anyone know any commercially available games that pack this much punch? Always wanted to play Project Brutality but scared to play around with mods.

There’s nothing to be scared of. I know absolutely nothing about mods. Never used a mod in my life until like a few weeks ago. Watched a few YouTube tutorials, played around with them a little to figure things out and now it all makes sense and it’s actually super straightforward.

There’s literally entire modded Doom builds on moddb, you download them, put them into your modloader and fire it up… all the work and sorting is basically done for you.

    Prodeus.

Good call! Great game and definitely packs a punch.

  • Which mod did you use for the lever action shotgun ?

  • Now do it without slow mo.

  • I love me some Project Brutality, it's a huge upgrade over regular Brutal Doom and has some amazing sprite work. It's one of my go to gameplay mods. I especially love the upgraded rife with the grenade launcher and sniper mode, the desert eagle, the quad shotgun and railgun.

It's been in perpetual alpha for like a decade now, but it's still more than playable and always getting updates. It honestly doesn't even feel unfinished besides some slightly older weapon animations, and they're in the process or overhauling and redoing all the monsters.

  • Brother what's this entire mod list you got running, I love it all.
