Elden Ring was my first Souls Game then picked up the Dark Souls series after that. Started playing Bloodborne last year and am on NG+. When Xmas came around, my brother got me Ghosts of Yotei and my wife bought me Amor Core FOR.
My brother has been really excited for me to play GOY to get my thoughts and I’m just so…bored. I loved Ghosts of Tsushima when that came out, but I’ve been on such a Souls-like game kick (Bloodborne being my favorite atmospheric-wise) that I don’t know how to play anything else anymore.
I was thinking of booting Amor Core to see what’s up but I’ve been wanting to just go back to Bloodborne and finish NG+ and the DLC.
Anyone had any issues playing other style of games after Bloodborne? Any recommendations for similar style games
This is how I have felt since I played bloodborne for the first time back in 2018. I played dark souls and Elden ring and had a hard time picking up any other game- ironically besides cozy/farming games like stardew valley or animal crossing lol
welcome to the club, good hunter. it’s rough out there.
have you tried Hades or Dead Cells?
Have not! I’ll check it out thanks for the rec
Dead Cells is a great game!
Have you played Lies Of P yet? That games atmosphere is top notch.
DLC is also worth playing!
Yup. The story in the dlc is stellar.
I’ll check out Lies of P! And I have the DLC just switch back, but now I got my brother and wife asking me “have you started that game I got you” so I sort of feel obligated to at least start those
Lies Of P holds a very special place in my heart. Such a unique soulslike.
I really wish I had played it when it was on Xbox Game Pass, they're still charging so much for it
I too went thru a period of time where i only wanted to play souls and souls-adjacent games. Then i got burned out and started working thru my backlog till i found something that clicked.
Best to not force it. Play what you like at the time. I worried that i would lose my "skill" from taking time away, but after a year or so, i did a new run thru Bloodborne then ER, and sure enough the muscle memory was still there.
I’ve never had a problem going back to playing other types of games at all personally.
Can’t go back from from software games, we’re doomed to greatness
Bloodborne is my favourite game but come on we're just talking about different genres here. Ghost Of Yōtei for example is a lot easier, yes, but there's so much joy to be had in exploring the world and drinking in all its beauty and atmosphere
Hollow Knight Silksong scratches the itch for me.
You go play other games and that’s it? Like, I love Bloodborne, Sekiro, Dark Souls III and Elden Ring, and now I’m enjoying Ghost of Yōtei.
I think with Yotei it’s all the damn talking. Game is beautiful and the mechanics are fun, but I’m starting to roll my eyes every-time have to start a fire, cook a fish, or draw a damn picture.
Although I will say I was surprised/relieved when i infiltrated a castle, died at the boss, and didn’t start all the way back at the beginning again lol
Other than the dialogue, you’re given the option to skip those things.
The way I did it was, I played 600-700 hours of Bloodborne and then I was able to move on to other games.
Play lies of p man, it is great. And yes all other game are totally ruined, unless it is another genre. I can highly recommend cyberpunk 2077 altho completely different. It is the best game I played last couple of years
Ghost of Yotei is absolutely beautiful, but after a while it just felt sort of lifeless. It’s a very glossy but hollow world, and I dropped it after a few hours, but that’s just me. I do get what you mean though. Once you’re in the groove of these games it can be hard to find something else that’ll scratch that itch. For probably a solid five years I was just bouncing around between different Fromsoft games, but now I’m back to playing other stuff and come back to these ones when the mood strikes
I think this is where I’m at with this game. I can tell a lot of work went into the development and I can appreciate this game for what it is, but at the end of the day I’m just not having fun sitting through 2hrs of cutscenes
play sekiro. Its similar enough to feel comfortable and different enough to feel new.
For me, I feel this way for a bit and then eventually some other game grabs me enough and I can return to normal until the next From experience.
Lies of P is good (as someone said).
I’m late to the Nightreign party but am having so much fun playing it.
Sekiro was my first from software game and it got me absolutely hooked. It was the first game that I beat amd immediately started a new game because I just wanted to keep playing that style of game and played through multiple times and am still hooked on it. I jumped into Bloodborne next and loved it too and started a second playthrough immediately after beating the game as well, but sekiro takes the cake for me. Gonna jump to lies of p or elden ring next. I completely feel you on wanting to stick with soulslike games though, they're brutal, addictive, and the feeling of accomplishment you get when you beat the baddie you've been stuck on is unrivaled
Definitely recommend playing The Surge (first one has the better atmosphere/story, second has improved armor/weapon variety, arguably some improvements to gameplay), others mentioned Lies of P is also really good.
I go turn-based games, specially Darkest Dungeon II
Well it’s not really close to Bloodborne but I’d recommend Sekiro, might be the best combat I’ve ever experienced in a game. Fast paced, fluid, kinda like a coreography honestly, it’s incredible!
I feel you. FromSoft has ruined almost all other games for me. Lies of P has been the only non-FS game that held my attention.
Yeeeeaaah same. Ever since bloodborne back in what, 2015? I have played through all the souls games and Elden Ring. Currently sweating on nightreign.
Most other games just don’t do it for me aside from like, overwatch for long while, and I guess palworld and Minecraft. Most other things are so bland or wordy it just does not keep my attention
I played DS3 almost 10 years ago. It was my first Fromsoft game. It blew me away. I immediately went to BB and it was even better. Sekiro, even better! DS2, As good as 3!! DS1 and Demon souls!!! Amazing. ER??? Spectacular
But I always go back to BB, Sekiro (I think the two best) and then DS2, 3, ER... I always have one going.
It's really hard to play other games when you have the hankering for Fromsoft but I have enjoyed plenty of other games.
I recommend a palate cleanser. Things like Farcry are really fun. Fallout and Skyrim are great changes. BG3 and DD2 are also nice changes.
But you will return to Fromsoft. You won't be able to help yourself!
I felt that, but my love for other type of games came back although not as strong as before.
It's really not easy 🤣
I've played other stuff since starting in the Souls games in 2017, but like, barely.
Dunno man, i'm on a plants vs zombies binge these days and i'm having a ball
Working through ac Valhalla, trying to clean out my backlog of unplayed
I go through phases and sometimes I'm just on a huge Souls-like kick. But I don't need everything to be that way so I'll play whatever else I feel like.
I'm currently playing Nine Sols and Borderlands 4, but I am getting that souls-like itch again so a replay of something is coming. I also have First Berserker Kazhan to play. That may happen next.
Start checking out other souls-likes until your happy to move on to something else.
Hollow Knight and Silksong are amazing games with similarly tight level/world design and progression.
Maybe just play something totally different. Obviously Ghosts is different but it's still in the "action-adventure" kind of genre. Maybe something story-based and isometric (Disco Elysium, Planescape, Pillars) or something like Castlevania (I'd recommend Aria or Symphony). And if you want to keep Bloodborning, do the plat
I have the same issue. Been finding some appeal in atmospheric horror games that are very much not bloodborne-like, ie: Still Wakes the Deep and Cronos. Games that I try because they seem similar to BB just dont do it for me 😭
Ghost of Tsushima was a freaking bore when I played it. But I played it after Bloodborne, Sekiro, Dark Souls 1-3, Lies of P, ... you name them.
These games are probably only interesting if you play them on the hardest setting, but I don't know if the feeling to beat the almost impossible makes it any more fun.
What I can recommend:
* Nioh 2 (it isn't your typical souls game, because it has a diablo-like loot system and a combat system that's closer to a beat'em'up than souls, but it was so addicting for me)
* Hollow Knight/Silksong (in general metroidvanias are a lot of fun (Ender Lilies/Magnolia, Blasphemous, ...), if you like parrying Nine Sols or if you want Dark Souls in 2D you can try Salt and Sanctuary)
* Other soulslikes (Lies of P, Mortal Shell, ...)
I tried other "hard games" and those scratched the itch. The gameplay loop of getting gud was what I really desired, so I sought that.
Ghostrunner, Cuphead, THPS 1+2, Trackmania Turbo (and other racing games) all have difficulty and quick restart so I was right back into the action
Only Fromsoft games compare to fromsoft games so the answer is either a - To play another FS game, or ..b - you dont
