Why the fuck would you put the punchline at the beginning

    parent
    470 points SopaDeKaiba

I've noticed this occuring a lot recently. I bet it's a TokTok thing.

    parent root
    212 points is_it_gif_or_gif

Yeah it's engagement trash. The ending cut is placed in a spot near the beginning, attempts to make people stay around to rewatch the loop again.

    parent root
    53 points rydan

Almost as nefarious as what Facebook does with reels and ads. Typically you want to see the comments. But you wait until the video ends. So they lie and tell you the video is one or two seconds longer than it really is and then cut to an ad before you can click on the comments. If you click on the comments now it is the comments for the ad, not the video you just watched. So you have to watch the entire ad to see the comments. But wait, it gets worse. There's a second ad. They lied and told you there was just one. So now you've watched two ads just to read the comments.

Fuck, that's dastardly. What a waste of time!

    parent root
    1 points technoir1984

I hate that a lot of trailers do that now too.

    parent root
    20 points whensmahvelFGC

Yes, when a video loops over and starts to re-play it counts as another view.

Punchline at the start = you watch the whole video, get to the end, and right as they deliver the punchline (again) it loops over and starts again.

Algorithm sees that and goes "wow people must really like this, let's send it to more people with similar interests" and everyone loses.

    parent root
    7 points flexxipanda

Everything thats longer than 5secs needs to spoil the point at the beginning otherwise wont pay attention long enough...

    parent root
    1 points theologyschmeology

Yep. People with more than a 5 second attention span will hate it, but if you don't put the most shocking/interesting/engaging part first nobody will watch the damn thing. Even long form YouTube videos do this now.

    parent root
    1 points flexxipanda

This evolution gonna end badly for us.

    parent root
    2 points -domi-

Yeah, but at least it has a punchline. So much of the cringe praying that's happening now doesn't even have one.

    parent root
    2 points Last-Darkness

The worst of the ones that seem mIke something might be interesting and as nothing does you get the “wait until the end!” Or some kind of attempt of a hook. But there’s nothing, the video just ends.

    parent root
    1 points -domi-

Yup. That's another reason why i tend to stay away from short content. There's too much of what you're saying. I've never understood why people would want to watch videos which bamboozle them, or generally insult their intelligence. I just feel lied to, and that doesn't make me want to go back for more... :/

    parent root
    1 points pistoladeluxe

Brainrot. 5 minute videos too long. 30 second shorts are too long. If it doesn’t have something interesting in the first 2 seconds it doesn’t get watched. We’re cooked as a society.

    parent root
    37 points Dontknowwhattodo1993

Its a Japanese video, they go from right to left dummy

    parent root
    11 points AmarildoJr

Because, sadly, people have been accustomed to having a 2 to 3 second span where, if they're not engaged by that short about of time, they click away.

    parent root
    6 points Guy-Inkognito

Just yesterday I saw a horror short story thingy and it did the same fucking thing!!! They put the God damn reveal as a clip right at the start.

I actually only watched it because I was expecting that there would be another twist subverting the expectation from the beginning but no... 😭

    parent root
    4 points R-E-Laps

    Downvote this shit.

    parent root
    3 points AuronMessatsu

It is called the 3 seconds time gap attention.

    parent root
    1 points whensmahvelFGC

It is much shorter in reality now. That was true for TV advertising.

    parent root
    2 points node0

To earn down votes I guess? They sure got mine.

    parent root
    2 points Extension_Swordfish1

    Kinda ruins the video

    parent root
    1 points syn_vamp

gen alpha brains are so adhd that you need to hook them with the punchline to get them to watch the whole thing.

    parent root
    1 points hemightbebrian

record scratch “Yeah, that’s me. I bet you’re wondering how I got myself into this situation. Well, it all started 3 weeks ago…”

Pulls in the viewers only there for the veiny dicks I guess?

    parent root
    1 points xLawless-

to keep engagement, its a tik tok thing because attention spans are in red numbers, tiktok should be banned

    parent root
    1 points GoblinBreeder

Because of adhd brain rot where TikTok babies can't watch a minute long clip

I had this same book as a kid. Depending on where you have your hand to flip the pages they are cut differently so only the pages your fingers flip through show. He wrote dicks on the blank pages though haha

Hahah it’s one of the first tricks you learn and nothing mysterious about it lol

    parent root
    1 points lankymjc

I spent the whole thing watching where he put his fingers!

  • 108 points hungryrenegade

Why did they edit it so the punchline was in the first few seconds???

    Awesome bit... Terrible editing

    parent
  • 15 points Dagger_26

    That's funny...now how'd he do it?

    parent
    30 points Phonics1979

Look at his right thumb/hand placement every time he flips the pages

    parent root
    13 points TheFrontierzman

I had one of these. Flip from middle, top and bottom will show different pages.

    parent root
    10 points Very_Board

    With cock magic obviously

    parent root
    2 points thehoagieboy

    Cock magnets, you mean

    parent root
    1 points will_this_1_work

    How do they work?

    parent root

It's like a Svengali deck of cards. Google it.

With his twelve year old brain

    parent root
  • 8 points talann

The right hand placement is key to this trick. The middle is the colored in pictures, top is non-colored in and bottom is the dick pics. The edges of the paper are slightly raised in each spot to allow the flipping to bypass the pages that you don't want the audience to see.

A perfect mix of comedy and black magic

  • 3 points RogerRabbit1234

This guy was on Fool Us. He ripped a phone book in half, and then found a correct page with a sword. Good trick. He shows how it’s done on his YT channel. Don’t recall his name at all.

Wherever he is holding during the flip effects the pages that will flip.

Takes balls to do such a simple ass children's birthday party magic trick to a real crowd. My kid got a book like this (minus the penis sketches) from a doctors office once.

The humor kinda makes it work though even if you know the trick

    parent
  • 1 points Brave-Butterscotch76

The execution of “whooaaa wtf?!!” was perfect

    parent
  • 2 points Axle_65

This was extra funny to me because my kid has this book so I was wondering what he was building to with, what supposed to be the blank pages.

    parent
  • 1 points golden_retrieverdog

no joke, i actually do have a coloring book that’s only penises

    parent
  • 1 points King_Six_of_Things

Neat trick. Down vote for putting the punchline first.

Along long (y-axis) of page: middle of page flip, top part of page flip, bottom part of page flip…

    parent
  • 1 points human8060

I remember magicians doing this at parties when I was a kid. Forgot about it until watching this.

    parent
  • 1 points Arya722

Okay so a magician just did this today at a kids Christmas party. I was sitting right there, not video. Went from uncolored pages, to scribbled all over, to perfectly colored, to every page completely blank with no drawings at all. I can generally see the tricks, but this one has me feeling so dumb. Can anyone explain to me how this works please?
