I'll let you in on a secret: A belt costs 10-20$ and you can just order as many as you want 😆 /s no I just ordered a cheap one for this custom frame as I really liked the astetics of similar frames!
I'm not sure if belt sizes are the same or you gained lost inches around the waist along your journey, but the effect it gives is very deep; like the white belt looks like the biggest color ratio, then the belt color thins out the further you move outside. It could refer to the number of practitioners who drop out, or the foundation and technique you absorb as a white belt then refine the same technique as you move up in belts... It has a trippy effect
The proportional area for each color looks pretty consistent across the 5 colors to me. I think the trippiness (and I agree it’s there) comes because the innermost “rings” are the smallest. White, being the center, is also not broken up by any other colors, there’s a big white circle instead of white rings, so it looks even bigger.
This a neat idea but I'd order the belts in reverse if I was doing it. Aesthetically I'd rather have the black in the centre; the way it's done here the black is kind of lost on the edge.
DIY’d mine with some basic metal L brackets and paracord on a nice piece of wood. I used a “handstand board” intended for yoga but you can get away with a nice cutting board or something. I also added hooks to the side for medals and picture frame mounting hooks.
This looks better. However, I'd use a wooden rack in a single color and just order the medals separately. Pretty good idea. I think when I advance to the next belt, I'll get a set like this.
Now I just need to start competing to have some medals lol.
I've made sure to lose every color of belt at least once. I lost my first purple belt in 3 weeks just to cement my commitment of lack commitment to caring as a practicing purple belt should.
My wife put this together for me shortly after I got my black belt. The one pictured is an extra I bought just for the display, but I've since swapped that out to put the one I received in the case because I never want to lose it. It has our club's logo on it.

It’s quite common to have multiple belts, especially from purple onwards. E.g. specific competition belt, the belt you received in your promotion, the belt you train in etc

I was a 5 year white belt so I still take out my 'old friend' and admire him from time to time. I think if I ever make it to black belt I might do something like what you did, very clean!

I only started framing them once I got to purple because 2 belts in a frame would look silly (or according to many here, any belt in a frame Is silly) I had a spare purble that was too big so I put that in the frame along with the white and blue. Once I hit brown I'll replace the spare purple with the current belt I use daily
I mean, I'm still only blue, so I currently have my white belt shoved in my drawer. I like the shadowbox idea, but it'll be a long time before I get to black, so maybe I'll just keep my belts in that drawer until then.

My first teacher would fold the old belt and tie it a knot because that is what Pedro Sauer did for him so I had my other teachers do the same for blue and purple. I’ll probably do the same with my brown and it feels weird untying them now so I don’t know what to do. Stay on a shelf I guess
I think this is awesome to do and for most people, it's one of their proudest accomplishments in their life. No shame in having pride in your accomplishment. Their was a previous thread a while ago by /u/EnemaBag and he did the same...err his wife had one made for him rather (sounds like shes a keeper!). His is my favorite. Simple and super clean. I'm going to make one similar when I decide to stop being a lazy piece of shit. Super clean.
When I decide to actually get one made, I will do more or less the same with dated polished brass plates of when I was promoted underneath each belt (date of when I started underneath the white belt) and enough room within the frame for a medium/larged sized photo of my professor and me (or maybe a photo with certificate underneath) to be placed on the side. I'm almost motivated enough to do it.
I'm only purple but already tossed my white and blue belts. I have multiple anyway because I wash them after every use (they spend all day in my bag with my sweaty gi after morning classes) and only do laundry once a week, so none of them are particularly sentimental to me.
I use my old belts as training tools for my kids classes. And every new uniform comes with a white belt so I cut those up and use them for various drills.

The gis are on a shelf opposite. The rashguards are in a box I never unpacked when I moved house. I have a great system.
