Hi Reddit
My name is Zakki, and I’m a black belt under the late Oli Geddes.
Thanks to the amazing guys at Scramble, we produced some rashguards and Oli was able to give them his approval shortly before passing.
In line with Oli’s wishes, all the money we raise will be going towards the Princess Alice Hosice - the place that looked after Oli during his final days with us.
If you’d like a rashguard, I can post it to you for £35. You’re welcome to pay more if you’d like. If you’re not UK based, I can send it abroad if you’re happy to cover postage costs.
If you’d like one, feel free to drop me a message either on here, or on Instagram @zakkz_
A huge thank you to the mods here for letting me post this message, and thank you all in advance for your support!
Just to add - the blue band on the arm is for Bowel Cancer awareness
I expect some downvotes here, but I'm always sceptical of brand new accounts posting asking for money, regardless of what it's for.
I'm not seeing any actual links to anywhere that backs this as legit. Shouldn't this be managed via a go fund me type website or the scramble website, instead of your Instagram?
Totally get that it looks odd, but I joined up yesterday as I understood Oli was active here and reached out to the mods in advance.
They’ve got proof of my ID, details around the rashguard order, and the conversations with the hospice.
Fully understand that it would be better to have an online platform, but it’s not my area of expertise.
The Instagram handle mentioned above (@zakkz_) is mine, so happy to verify on there as well.
If there’s anyone London based, you can also pick up a rashguard from Stronger MMA and Fitness where Oli was the head coach.
I appreciate the reassurance, you have a guaranteed purchase from me should a legitimate means of purchase become available.
He verified his identity and story with me before he posted, this appears to be legit
(although I agree about having an e-commerce site)
I'd be happy to support this, but I ain't sending no random guy money via Instagram. This is scam waiting to happen.
Hopefully they rethink this and do it the right way.
I'm not disagreeing with your concern. Just know that he did proactively inquire about this post, and provided a good amount of documentation behind his identity and motives. I agree a proper e-commerce site would come across as much more legit, but I also understand how this could have come together quickly as a fundraising effort.
Is there no way scramble can do this? No offense or anything
Hiya and absolutely no offence taken 🙂
Scramble have been nothing but amazing with their support, and whilst I’m sure they’d do whatever they could to help, we don’t have that many rashguards left to make it worth doing.
Oli was quite well known on the jiu jitsu scene and I just wanted to let the wider community know that we were doing this, and if anyone wanted a rashguard with Oli’s logo on whilst support the hospice that looked after him then there’s something available.
Making a quick buck off of his name is absolutely the last thing I’d want to do.
