What’s that thing in the middle? What’s the point of it? In the mata canisters there is a cool mata head design that’s can be used for mask, but here I don’t get it
As a child I used to treat them as "altars" and when the respective Toa mata picked up the weapons it acquired the nuva chest and shoulder armor (but kept the old mask because I hated the nuva Kanohi 😅)
You can also put heads there in place of weapons to fit 8 krana, but the original intent was probably weapons storage like WalkingSucculent says. The Nuva masks are too big to fit in the middle of the Mata lids anyway. I believe you could connect a face-up Mata head to the middle pin on the early variant of the lids because the hole went all the way through. But they decided axles could fall out, so they covered the holes with stickers and modified the mold to avoid that step.
Most definitely, you can also play it yourself through the biomedia project, it's a couple hours long point & click adventure with a few simple puzzles
I only have an iPad, my Mac is always occupied by girlfriend. I am not a big fan of such games, though I liked “the walking dead” by Telltale (I think that’s the closest?)
I don't remember if it's in the instructions or on the canister art, but the top is to store their shoulder pads of all things. The two silver armor plates go on top to make the canister smoother and shinier. The practical use / defense is that the Toa Mata and Nuva were small enough sets that the intent was to require dismantling them as little as possible for storage.
For the Mata, maybe you take off their mask and weapon, but tilt their legs right and that's all you need to do. For the Nuva, the shoulder pads are too broad. So you can remove their weapons and mask and keep those in the canister, but the shoulder pads go on top.
That’s actually sounds about right.
Another answer was for their weapons, and all of them does wield two weapons, but it looks strange, so you maybe on to something
You can store their weapons, that's pretty much it afaik
That’s sounds as a good answer. It’s just never shown on instructions so I thought maybe that’s the early Nuva stone design
Design-wise I have no idea
Still thanks a lot)

I always thought the middle part looked like stairs going down, kinda like that sundial in the Mata Nui online game
Never played those Are there any good letsplays on yt?

You'll need to have either a knowledge of the Matoran language or a key on hand to translate signs and stuff, too.
It's an absolute must play if you're interested in Bionicle's story, and any computer can run it plus it's free :)

Honestly bionicle was so great and creative for giving so many of the cannisters an actual use and unique looks instead of just cardboard boxes
Oooh storing weapons sounds cool, I always thought it was for Takanuva and Makuta heads
I thought it was for the masks of light and darkness

I believe it was supposed to be a handle for easier opening. The pin and axle holes are likely a bonus
How is loosing 75% of your torque going to make it easier to open?
It's to attach two heads for the gold and silver Kanohi, this way you can have all colors on the same lid.
There were no gold nuva kanohi if I remember correctly.
