i’m asking for personal curiosity. i’d like suggestions of places with activity within a days trip of where i live (SwMo). i have been a believer of BF for a few years now, not due to personal experiences but rather knowing people who’ve had them, and spending many a late night researching the topic. it’s something that’s extraordinarily interesting to me, but i’m the type of person that needs to see to truly, fully believe.
i do have a healthy respect for sasquatch, and it’s not my intention to cause any disturbance or sensationalize the encounter. it’s a personal curiosity that i fear will eat away at me forever. i am moving out of the country next year and will likely not be able to indulge in these kind of “senseless” adventures back here in the states after that, so i’d like to get a few day trips and/or weekend trips under my belt before now and then, and potentially see the truth for myself.
i’ve been scouring the BFRO website, searching through this sub, and listening to sasquatch chronicles for encounters that fall within this range.
i’d love to hear any stories of encounters of any type in the ozarks or slightly broader midwest region. i’m trying to pin down any hotspots. i have mark twain national forest (specifically several spots along the current river) on my list, as well as the state line between AR and OK. LeFlore has been mentioned multiple times. does anyone else have any other suggestions or info? you can comment here or pm me if you’d rather keep it private.
thanks in advance,
- an overly curious 20 something

I believe my great grandfather encountered one in Bollinger county Missouri back in the 20’-30’s. He left my grandma’s house after dark one night before they were married. He didn’t have a lantern but walked the road frequently. Back then it was a dirt road. About halfway home, something came out of the woods crawling on the ground behind him. It was light enough in color that he could see it in the dark. The woods there are thick and it’s near the Mark Twain National Forest. He said it would crawl behind him and then he’d turn around slowly to look at it and it would stand up. He would take steps and it would also take bipedal steps, matching his footsteps. He’d turn back around and it would get back down to crawl behind him. He described it as having fur and it was over 6 foot tall. I don’t remember him saying if it smelled at all or made any noise. He said he felt that if he ran, it would chase him and kill him. He said it wasn’t a bear, and mountain lions don’t move like that. I believe what he saw was a Bigfoot.
Back in 2009? me and a group of about 30-40 of my family members were camping at Sam A Baker. We went up to Graves Mountain to star gaze. We kept hearing a strange hyena cackling sound. It started to move closer and my mom said she kept hearing snaps in the woods like something was moving nearby. She said she heard what she thought was rocks being thrown. My uncles who are familiar with animals sounds because they hunt couldn’t identity it. I searched and searched for years online for a similar sound and finally heard something similar to an alleged Bigfoot video in the Pacific Northwest. It sounds identical to what we heard.
There have also been reports of a skunk ape in either a conservation area or state park near Poplar Bluff. I can’t remember the name of it but you can probably search it. There are alleged photos of the skunk ape at this location.
Momo up near Louisiana Mo. all these locations are in or near the Mark Twain National Forest.
Sasquatch theory is based in MO.. If you reach out to Miguel he might be able to point you in the right direction
OK now I just became curious if there has EVER been a sighting in Kansas any where. The only thing I know for 90% sure that Kansas is mainly just flat lands with some hills spread across the state. So I don't know where they would have the coverage of trees that they would need to be able to survive. Any body ever heard of a sighting in Kansas, please let me know. Maybe I'm totally wrong lol
Well yeah, you’re wrong. BFRO has 50 reports from Kansas, meaning actual sightings are historically much higher than 50.
