Wanted to share a friend's encounter. To clarify, this is a friend of mine who had never heard of sasquatch before, and we live in Sharpsburg, NC. This guy has no reason to lie, I feel, he was genuinely shaken by the encounter.

So he told me for a couple weeks, his trash can had been getting knocked over and rummaged through every night , and it was too heavy for dogs to be doing it. His girlfriend also said she felt like she was being watched through the back windows/door, which face the woods. One night, he was taking out the trash late , and says he saw what he described as a 8 ft tall "Monkey Man". As I said, he had never heard of bigfoot, he's the sorta hood/gangster type. What makes me believe him, is he described it as having eye shine. He says it stood there, just out of the light from his back porch, against the treeline, emitting a low growl. He dropped the trash and went inside. He called me , freaking out.

I've looked at reports for Nash county and have seen a few, such as one crossing 301 highway , which is a road running through Sharpsburg. Since the encounter, he has asked around and someone else from Rocky Mount told him that if you look up at night, driving near rocky mount, you can see them "standing in the trees.". Spooky stuff. I believe him, I've never known this guy to lie or be shaken up by ANYTHING, or anyone. What do you guys think?

  • Has he or his gf had any incidents since the night he saw it? It may have thought you were competing with him for his food source (trash) and so was trying to scare you away.

We've both since moved away from the road where the sighting happened, we were in apartments and mine was two doors down from his. We both still live in the same town though.

  • Yes. They live among us.. There are bigfoot in every city and town and in every biome on this earth..

  • I have heard many reports in which the sasquatch stands in the edge of the woods and (I would argue) lets themself be seen. My mom’s encounter in the 1940s, which is the basis for my own beliefs, described the sasquatch watching from the woods. in the early morning. She also described “eyes like coals of fire.” The best evidence we currently have are the reports of credible individuals, like your friend.

Most people suffer ontological shock when they see something that they’ve been told doesn’t exist. It can be a profound and lasting experience. Your friend needs your support.

I explained to him what he saw, and he looked to be extremely shocked. He did some reading after that, and he agrees there's no other explanation. He said it sounded like it was making a warning growl. He specifically pointed out the eye shine, which makes me believe him

Here is an article about how a police officer/former military member, expresses how he felt anger & betrayal after seeing one. Angry because, he instantly knew that with all of the government intelligence of the world, they KNOW. So, why haven’t we been told? Why are we programmed into thinking it’s a joke when it is an actual living physical creature? He too lived his entire life being told there’s no such thing, only to come across one up close while going about his day.

  • What year was this? It's hard to believe that someone nowadays could get through life not knowing what bigfoot is. From my experience, people who don't know about bigfoot have heard of it, but they think there's just one, like the loch ness monster or tge Easter bunny. He never saw a Jack's Links commercial?

It was ten years ago or so. He probably has seen those commercials, but had never heard stories about squatches. He wouldn't have said "monkey man" if he had heard bigfoot or sasquatch before. He was freaked out, I remember his eyes were huge when he told me about it in person. I dont think cryptids or anything of the sort were on his list of interests.

I just recently learned what a “Yeti” was. I knew it had something to do with the white Abominable Snowman looking guy, but just thought it was a character out of some slapstick movie I hadn’t seen.

I knew of Bigfoot, but also thought of that as just a funny joke that every so often, people tried to pull off a new one of. I loved the iconic hairy guy & pointed/giggled every time I saw one. But, in honesty, I thought it was common knowledge that it was only a joke “character”. I had no idea that there are thousands of sightings, real footage, real science scholar studies, physical evidence, etc.

It was only a couple months ago that I got introduced to the subject and got obsessed to learn as much as possible. That’s when I learned that Yeti is the distant “cousin” of BF. So if I were to see a BF or Yeti before a couple months ago, I’m guessing I’d have been in complete shock.

Edit: Came back to add, my sister is a “Biology Major” and claims to know everything about everything. I tried to introduce her to this subject and she turned it into a mockery of me. I tried to show/explain that there’s real evidence out there, and she wanted no part of it except to excitedly use it as an excuse to tell other family members that I’m mentally ill & need to be medicated. 🫤 We are 50 and 52. So, I’m just learning about BF, and she knows nothing. She thinks it’s all reality tv BS. I haven’t even watched any of that crap. I view the non-fiction sources. So, I’m just saying, it’s known as a joke to most. Just read the comments in every one of these posts here. People are programmed to laugh at it. The big question is, why?

I would guess that what he saw didn’t look exactly like the Jack Links mascot.

Most of the time “monkey man” is probably about as succinct a description as anyone would make.

Also, for most folks, Bigfoot is firmly in fantasy land. According to polls, only about 16% of adults believe. (Compare that with 70% for angels.)

  • Never heard of bigfoot? LOL.
